The tune list got mixed up...

What do you mean? She did not play the tunes announced? Would be typical MO if that was the case :)
@daves.94797 жыл бұрын
#1 was definitely not Soppin'. Dunno waltzes (they put me to sleep), and #3 was definitely not Jesse Polka (was I Don't Love Nobody, I think). Btw, thanks for doing the huge amount of work you have done to make these available---imo, they're about the best contest vids on the web; really superb.

That last tune was NOT "Jesse Polka." Announcer had wrong tunes. Last tune sounded like "Hotfoot" and the first one was "Doc Harris Hornipipe." Memory Waltz was correct, and composed by Howdy Forrester. Too much time tuning on stage. Aside from that, great playing!

Gus, a while back I made a new video of this that eliminates the onstage tuning... kzbin.info/www/bejne/aKGQdXSYfr17jas

Wouldn't it be customary to tune your instruments before taking the stage?

@voilaviolamh Thanks. Good info. (which I hadn't thought of))

These instruments can go out of tune moving from one room to the next...

Thank you! Waste of people's time waiting for you to tune. And no they won't go out of tune from room to room. Just sayin!

@@srpastorjohn Ever played in a fiddle contest? You'd be surprised how fast your time sneaks up on you, and how hard it is to round up your musicians at the right time. Just sayin'.

I generally agree, and usually hate tuning in videos, but as others note here, this is different from a gig where everyone would be backstage or someplace convenient to tune up before going on. Accompanists often back up more than one fiddler, and may have just come from playing with someone at a slightly different pitch. Also, Ms. Clarridge makes up for it by doing a sort of dance as the band gets ready.

thats a lot of tuning...

Why the hell can't people tune BEFORE they get on the stage???? Freaking classical players are just as bad. They'll walk out on the stage in Carnegie Hall and then start tuning. Drives me nuts, freaking do it while you are waiting to go on. Tuning on stage is as unprofessional as you can get.
@FiddleSupporter2 жыл бұрын
Rebel, In my more recent videos, say the last 2 years, I've been editing off the tuning and other delays before the playing begins.

@@FiddleSupporter Thank you, that's very much appreciated. I'm a musician myself, I always tune before I get on the stage, I don't know what's so difficult about it. Love your channel by the way!!!
@tomboyqueenX2 жыл бұрын
Sorry bro, but you really shouldn't criticize without knowing the circumstances. I'd lay ten to one she's ten times the musician you are.
@rebelrog2 жыл бұрын
@@tomboyqueenX She's certainly a better fiddle player than I am. Not sure about musician. Regardless it doesn't matter the circumstances, nor was she the one who hadn't tuned. And it's not just these people, it's something I don't understand that even the professional classical musicians do. If you had read the comment.
@rebelrog2 жыл бұрын
@@tomboyqueenX And as I reread your comment, there is no way she is "ten times the musician". She is a wonderful fiddle player, one of my favorite. But I am very confident I'm the better all around musician. Not that you have ever heard me play a note. You wouldn't know.
