I agree. These types of heats where the outcome is in doubt throughout are few and far between. The vast majority of them are decided before the end of the first lap or more often than not even at the starting gun. Made me think of the '74 race between the Bud and Pay 'n Pak. By the way, I went to grade school with a Richard Stiles. Do you by chance remember an old fellow named Rembrandt from way back?

Great stuff! Unlimited Hydroplanes are the most beautiful form of motor sport. Big, powerful hulls racing on an ever-changing course, throwing a huge roostertail of water at 200 miles per hour. And a glorious history of famous boats, owners and drivers...people like Gar Wood, Bill Muncey and Chip Hanauer. Nothing like it!

Better driver ended up losing this, hitting a buoy during milling period is kinda a bs penalty. Tate flies the boat reminiscent of Chip and Villwock. My opinion.

Well, despite waning support in Seattle, despite KIRO TV having to sadly drop live coverage for the first time in decades, despite the glorified blender sound of turbines compared to the thunder of the old boats, despite the glaring lack of top women competitors in the sport , despite it all : THIS was a fine race and a tribute to Unlimited Hydroplane Racing. . As a kind of younger hydro fan that never grew up with the pistons, the screaming turbine sound is like music to me. I love it. It's the sounds of summer for me. It sounds like real power in a minor key.

Maybe more women should get into boat racing. It’s not H1s fault there aren’t any top women racers. I remember Keyliegh Perkins wasn’t bad Bianca bonincinni wasn’t bad either bud they were subpar in the Gp class and unlimited lights what makes u think in an unlimited they are gonna be TOP competitors. Also it ain’t women that are at the races it’s a bunch of men who brings their families or drag their girlfriends to it. I’ve been going to these races my entire life. If women wanted to race or be in it they would but they just don’t. And it’s not cuz a bunch of men are keeping them from being racers they simply just don’t wanna.

This was a great race - one of the best ever - despite the dislodging of a buoy by Tate. Should not count in score up time - only during race. H1 has definitely made Shane their golden boy and labeled Tate the outlaw. Shame. They did this for Bud, Little and Villwock, and it nearly destroyed the sport.

No more Miss Bud. Bernie Little died in 2003 and Bud pulled out of hydro racing in 2004. The red Graham boat is a former Miss Budweiser hull I believe.

Nothing more annoying, to me at least, are race announcers who feel the need to scream into their microphones. When Chip Hanauer announces you never hear him do that.

That is what makes the racing great! He is the Dave Neihaus, Pete Gross, Stave Raible and Bob Rondeau of hydroplane racing. Chip is boring and calls the race before it ends. Brad Luce is one fo a kind and the best announcer behind Pat O'Day
