2017 Big Guns Speed Class

A 2x2 race with some of the fastest racking horses anywhere. These are mostly Standardbreds, Singlefooters, Rowdy Blood line, some mixed with other breeds such as Racking, Saddlebred, TWH.

It is a speed RACKing event. Gaited horses. This one is located at East Fork Stables in Jamestown, TN. They have it the end of April and there is another called Racking on the Edge in Sept. Breeds are Standardbred, Racking, TWH, and Rowdy or Singlefooters.

Why do some of them run (ik thats not the proper term but you know what i mean) with both legs on the same side moving together, and then some go in the normal order of front leg, opposite back leg, other front leg, then other opposite back leg (i only noticed when i scrubbed through the video frame by frame)? Im not a horse expert obviously but Im curious if they are two different types of gait or if its all called racking? Also im curious how these gaits developed in the first place? I assume through breeding because people are saying not all horses can do this, but im wondering how the first horses able to do this gait were discovered I guess? Its very interesting, they look really awkward from the front but from the side it looks so smooth.

The legs on the same side at the same time is called a Pace and the one foot on the ground at a time is called a singlefoot or a fast rack. There are pacer bred standardbreds and trotter bred standardbreds or some just Walking or Racking bred that are not as fast. Pacers can generally go a little faster and get smoother the faster they go. It is a rough gait in the slower speeds generally. You are very observant.

This is a fast rack or in some cases a pace. Most gaited horse riders prefer that they do not trot as it is not generally smooth. A lot of the fast gaited horses start out 'trotty' but we strive to smooth it out into a rack, and at speed only have one foot on the ground at a time.

defintily no soring here but I would say the pain ismostly from heavy hands on leverage bits, but the horses are beautful. I had a racking horse several moons ago and she would rackoff the halter (I was pullling to much onthe leverage bit) pain causes all the misbehaviors and high head wide eyed, kicking up etc which is due to the leverage bit and sitting back to far. but these horses surly are awesome.

Melanie Willard what is a running walk 😭🤦🏾‍♀️ it’s easier to teach a trotter to do a single foot but pacers have hope too lol. Trotting and pacing Standardbreds are usually the ones to be put with the sulkies like she said. That’s what they’re known for. Racking is the other thing they’re known for I was at this event on my horse in my profile 👏🏾it’s great

Why the fuck do some people sit SO far back in the saddle. Its abuse. Theres no way they dont know its wrong. Literally almost every rider is sitting perfectly. But the guys who are near l a y i n g on their horses, the horses are visibly uncomfortable. Also much slower
