Back in the late 90's, I remember getting issued the very rare LMC, one of which I still have. Of the 3 menus, pepperoni, and beef jerky, were from a company called Hero Bros, which was a rather low rent, gas station variety jerky. The 3rd menu was freeze dried cheese, which did indeed suck! It wasn't very palatable, and just a couple handfuls was enough for most. It did have a nice crunch, tho. The rest of the LMC was granola/candy bars, and juice mixes, hot chocolate etc. Funny story...while on a CAC one year, my fire team partner, and I made use of a previously dug trench from the year before, and while digging it back out, we found a packet of the jerky...the packaging was still ok, and the jerky was a bit questionable looking, but we decided to eat it, for kicks....still tasted alright, and neither of us got sick...probably wouldn't do it again, but it was a good torture test for the jerky that went into the LMC.
