You could argue that today, pick-up trucks are the most practical luxury vehicles available. While technically still a truck, the upscale trim versions of the #Ford #F150 feel more like a #luxury car with a giant trunk. And that’s why in this Report, we’ll take a look at the Ford F150 XLT!
First of all: we love the styling of the F150! The F150 #SuperCrew is huge, and it does no effort to hide that. It’s one big block of muscle. The sharp lines and edges make it look like a giant, but also futuristic. And who doesn’t want to plow through muddy fields with these gorgeous 20” chrome wheels?
This modern, edgy styling continues inside the cavernous cabin, which gives it a unified look and feel. The light theme of the interior with the chrome touches adds to the feel of luxury. We miss the more refined materials of the top-of-the-range Platinum, but the interior parts are put well together and the dash and door panels feel nice and solid.
The SuperCrew is the biggest version of the already big Ford 150.
If you remove the seat from the back, you can also use the #truck bed to move all kinds of cargo.
The legroom in both the front and rear is exceptional. This is further enhanced in the front with the power adjustable pedals and manually adjustable steering wheel.
And with a huge cabin and a huge truck bed, you need a huge engine. Ford makes you pay extra for the EcoBoost engine, but why would you want a V6 instead of a V8 anyway? F*** that. Our truck has the naturally aspirated 5 liter V8 which is technical terminology for reliability and full-range torque.
Look at this thing going!
The 5 liter V8 provides 385 horsepower and 387 pound feet of torque. And you’ll need it!
What also makes this truck awesome, is that huge chrome grille. If you’re looking to buy an F150, definitely opt for the Chrome Package, which comes with that grille and further enhances the looks with chrome wheels, chrome side steps, chrome door handles and a chrome exhaust tip.
Now, this giant doesn’t weigh as much as you might think. Ford constructs the body of the latest generation of their best seller almost entirely from aluminum, which, according to Ford, makes for a total weight reduction of 700 pounds. So far for American ‘iron’, but do not fear! The new F150 still tows eleven thousand pounds (dry).
So how does that drive?
In its current iteration, the legendary Ford F150 might be one of the most comfortable ways to drive on asphalt and gravel. And the most practical way too.
But, of course your Ford will never break down, because it’s built Ford Tough! Even tough enough to go off-road with its low gearing and high ground clearance.
Ford also decided to include all sorts of things in the Chrome Package that have nothing to do with chrome. For example, this handy rear-view camera to prevent you running over a cow while reversing. And plowing through the mud just doesn’t feel the same if your seat is not set comfortably so why not add 10-way adjustable power seats as well?
And since men love buttons, there are some more on the steering wheel. Oh and before we forget: it can power your coffee maker too with the 400 watt power outlets in the cabin.
To top off the luxury, the entertainment system powered by Ford Sync, with a big 12” display, makes you almost forget you’re in a truck. It supports Bluetooth, USB, SD-cards and provides a wide array of settings for your F150. There’s only one thing we were missing in our truck.
But the handy extra features don’t stop in the cabin! Because after all, this still is a truck built for utility. The truck bed has lights not only from the top, but also from the rear end of the bed. What a bright idea! And you can just leave your keys inside the cabin while loading.
So, what is our conclusion? The Ford F150 provides storage, storage and even more storage. We love the raw power from the 5 liter V8 much more than any turbocharged engine and we loved the comfort in the cabin. Needless to say, we were very impressed by the Ford F150.
With the Ford F150, you don’t have to choose between a luxury car and truck anymore. Utility, high capacity towing and loading, comfort, modern technology and handsome design all come in one package.
