Andre, Why ,...I mean why has it ALWAYS got to be a mileage test while towing a heavy load. I would suggest that towing like this is NOT the norm. If you want "real world tests" then do this test with NOTHING hitched up and in normal drive modes. If we have to tow something then we do it because we need to move that cargo to a different place, which is more important than worrying about the truck's MPG. A truck fully dress like this one, is not going to be a tow haul fleet, the basic models would be, I'm thinking. This is where the average truck and driver usually are,...aren't they?

delete it and tune it and youll not only have more power, but it will sound better by far and as a bonus you will almost double the fuel mileage potentially. emission systems on diesels are just awful and make the truck perform so much worse than it should
@calebniederhofer678
@calebniederhofer678 6 жыл бұрын
Mike Utoober it won’t double the mileage lol , it will make a significant difference of 2-4 . Deleting it is illegal, and as much as I hate the dpf system as anyone else . They are getting better , and there are actually safe dpf tuners now that add mild power and help mileage . Don’t get me wrong so many issues have been caused by the dpf , but let’s face it’s not going anywhere .

I'm assuming a sensible person doesn't own a F250 Powerstroke Diesel as an only vehicle! You're gonna use the truck as your work vehicle/toy hauler/etc, and have...I dunno, a sedan or mid-size SUV as your grocery getter? "The right tool for the job," and picking up ramen noodles with this rig is like driving finishing nails with a 10# sledge! For one thing, you won't be able to fit it in a parking spot...

Not everybody wants to spend money on two vehicles plus you gotta pay insurance on 2 vehicles now if you did that.. Better off getting a truck for play and work.. Any sensible person that is getting a diesel will be windering what the mpg.. Also ramen noodle is nasty

The diesel is a nearly $9,000 option and is much more costly to maintain. The 6.2L V8 has plenty of power and torque and will fill the needs of most people who buy one of these trucks.

UnsulliedSpy Thanks, that's 9k worth of gas and other useful things. For my planned needs, which is towing a beat pick up twice a year, tow a 10k # dump trailer 3 times at the most, the V8 Gasser is what would fit my needs perfectly.
@406Steven
@406Steven 7 жыл бұрын
I don't know the exact oil capacity of the 6.7L PowerStroke but I'm guessing around 18 quarts, whereas the 6.2L should be around 6-7 quarts--if memory serves they both share the same recommended change interval. Plus the diesel needs DEF as an added expense (and possible headache in freezing weather), and lord help you when something eventually breaks. People seem to think that they can just buy a diesel and it will last forever but it's not uncommon to have failures (especially on newer diesels with their complicated and expensive emissions systems).

okan elkin 18 wheelers getting 8mpg? they must be a true 18 wheeler tandem tandem set up. my 2015 Kenworth w900 btrain fluid hauler weighing 63500kgs only gets 1.4 mpg loaded. I do have 30 wheels though vs 18.

Rob Varley definitely the standard US/Canada 18 wheeler. 53' tandem axle trailer. my truck gets mid 7's. these are US MPG's too, ~3.78 L to a US gallon. some of the trucks get into the 8's at my company, I've seen the numbers posted on the wall in our drivers room.

okan elkin crazy man! I thought those trucks were in the 5mpg range. I just did the math and my truck is 3.2mpg. but it's also a heavy hauler and goes through a lot of mud and steep hills.

@okanelkin 7 жыл бұрын
Rob Varley my routes are all paved and I mostly just set the cruise control and point the steering wheel. 2015 Freightliner cascadia evolution is what I'm driving, and what most of our fleet is. most trucks should be able to get better than 6 mpg (any truck I've driven has, unless i had a lot of layover time with idling for a/c). 80,000 lbs max for these tandem trailers. slowing down helps a lot too. our fleet is limited to 100 km/h.
@RobVarley
@RobVarley 7 жыл бұрын
okan elkin yah that's a lot lighter than my 140 000lbs lol! I've never driving an 18 wheeler except when I got my license. I feel like I live at the fuel station sometimes because everyday I have to fuel that thing up. I wish our trucks got better fuel mileage but theyre just too big.

I was thinking about the SD's performance in the Ike Gauntlet and you mentioned you couldn't understand why id didn't perform well. Could it a result of Ford reducing power through 3rd gear to protect the drivetrain? Because you were in third for a lot of that pull, you didn't have full access to the truck's power. Have you reached out to Ford regarding this?

I saw this comment on Fuelly, about topping off after the click. Is this true? "Don't keep pouring gas in after the pump has auto clicked. Modern cars - for the last 25 years or so have had a charcoal filled evaporation canister attached to the refueling system to capture fuel vapors and prevent them from escaping to the atmosphere. Yes - you can slowly keep pouring gas in after the pump has automatically clicked off as several people on here have said to do...but guess where that gas goes? It's not in the tank. It's overflowing into the evap cannister and will eventually damage your emissions system. Simply put - don't do this. Stop when the pump shuts off. posted by TheRainman on September 13, 2017"

Honestly slowing down to 60-65 is safer not only because you're towing but the extra time it will take will won't be worse then the extra fuel you spend over say a 1000 mile journey. You have to take time to make money so can you make up the difference in the time saved? I'm guessing over a thousand mile trip running 60 instead of 70 will save around 30 gallons of fuel. That's 90ish dollars on average. It'll cost you two more hours of time. Do you make 45 dollars an hour? Most of us likely don't even myself with a 4 year engineering degree won't turn out that much when I find a job. The safety factor goes up immensely when reducing speed.

On my recent ( September 2017 ) trip from Edmonton, AB to Halifax, NS ( ~5500 kms or ~3500 miles ) my average consumption was 20litres/100 kms (= 11.75 mpg US or 14.2 mpg Imperial ) with 2017 F350 XLT SuperCrew, 6.7 Diesel towing a 31 ft travel trailer + camping gear at approx. 8500 lbs. I was very pleased with that performance!

Love your guys videos, here's an idea for a video. Try a used power stroke maybe an older 7.3 on the ike and see how it compares mpg performance etc compared to the brand new trucks, (yes I know they did something like this with an old/new chevy but I'm curious about the power stroke

My old 2000 Cummins will get 10mpgs grossing 26000lbs at 70-75 mph. That’s with 3.55 gears, 33” tires, with a built transmission, rv275 injectors, edge drag comp 3x5 and a stock turbo. It will pull it faster than you feel comfortable.

@Roger-to2mn
@Roger-to2mn 7 жыл бұрын
Truckguyjoe yea the 4.10 will be good for 0-60 and pulling real heavy loads but for lighter loads the 3.55 would be better especially with a diesel if you were to race on a long hill lightly loaded the 4.10 it would run out of rpms and the 3.55 should drive around them because it would be in the better torque range of 1800-2200 rpms But in a gas version you would want a 4.10 or 4.30 because your rpms can go much higher and your best torque is around 4500 rpms
