These guys have made the "Start where ever you're at" comment before. I had a 1/2 ton truck...so we found a trailer that it could tow (Coleman 2515RL). We upgraded to airbags on the truck...better tires, better shocks and struts...and better breaks. Then took that brand new trailer across the country (Vancouver, WA to Cape May, NJ via Texas). 8,540 miles total...no trouble. Just get what works and do it!

Nova Scotia is a wonderful destination! There's so much to see. It's been my home for 59 years and I haven't seen it all yet. I see others have commented on this, too, but you may not be able to visit us this summer. The Canada/US border is now closed to non-essential traffic for an indeterminate period, waiting for a flattening of the Covid-19 virus curve. Provincial borders are the same. Nova Scotia currently requires a 14 day self-isolation for people entering the province. Through April all campgrounds were mandated to be closed. As May began, one of the first lightening of the state of emergency restrictions was to allow the opening of private campgrounds to the preparation and use of seasonal units only. That was done in parallel to allowing owners to use their cottages again as their term residence. We don't have any idea how long it may take before tourism can be a thing again. Keep an eye on us, though, and keep your daydream. We are well worth the trip. Other commenters have suggested destinations for you to not miss and I'd like to add Kejimkujik National Park. It has history, heritage, camping of all types (oops, renovations have the RV campground closed for 2020), beaches, water activities, trails, guided walks and more. Online reservations are required for the 360ish site campground. We are a warm hearted bunch and we'll love on you whenever you can get here.

We have the large full tank in our F-350 plus we have a 100gal tank in the bed so we don't have to stop for fuel for a loooong time. We made it from Albany, OR to Crested Butte, Colorado and then back to south of Salt Lake City, Utah (no trailer) before having to stop at a gas station. Towing our 30' bumper pull, we went from Albany, OR to Yellowstone and drove around a few days, minus the trailer, before we had to stop at a gas station. Is SO nice! We get low on fuel and we just pull off the road a bit and fill it up from the tank in the back. No worry about knowing where the next gas station is.

I have the same bedslide on my F250 and love it!...I wasn't a complete believer in those anchors that came in the slide kit...so here's a Pro tip...there is a slot up under the bed that lines up with the center cross bar of the slide frame. I was able to secure a 4 ft piece of aluminum angle iron underneath the bed and bolt it directly to that center cross bar (fasteners need to be similar metals). It's now "super" strong and would probably hold much more than 1K lbs fully extended (although I don't/haven't tested that theory).

I know this is an old video, but it’s still really helpful. We’ve had a backflip on our f350 for about 2 years, and the biggest issue right now is that we don’t have enough room in it for things like lawn chairs. We like having the Airstream clear and ready to use for roadside breaks. So we’ve pretty much decided on a topper and a bed slide. Your opinion is very valuable - I wish you had revisited the bed slide after living with it for a while with pros and cons- but I know your time is valuable. Maybe a short? I imagine some people will be skeptical that we can’t fit our kit inside of a truck bed - they should try it! We’re old and unstylish so looking like it’s Grandpa’s truck isn’t an issue. We just want the whole system to work together so we can enjoy the experience.
@KeepYourDaydream2 жыл бұрын
I'll add in an update in an upcoming video. I've come to the conclusion that a Bed Slide is best with truck cap. I tried to get one, but they are 12 weeks for a ARE Z model or $5k for a Lear. (Both painted and streamline). I'm not so in love with a truck cap that I'm willing to pay 5k. I also don't like the bed rug. Looks messy and old now. Nothing beats a spray in bed liner. I'lll have to come up with a new solution.

So aren’t you going to go over on your payload with all that extra weight of gas and all those liquids and gen in your truck bed? I thought your payload was 2200? Or how much did you gain with the airbags? It’s my understanding that not much is gained?
@FordF-Super4 жыл бұрын
Stream Rolling pay load is payload, it doesn’t change, it’s fixed from the factory, the only way to add payload capacity to this particular truck is to...upgrade the rear axle, weld in 2 more crossmembers and add one regular leaf and an overload. Now you can do what I said minus the crossmembers, axles, and YES, it won’t sag as much, but that’s a misconception to you thinking you added payload, if you don’t strengthen the chassis and axles, it’s just adding accelerated wear and tear, my truck, same as his but an XLT had a payload of 2480, when I upgraded to the max tow, it added what I mentioned above, my payload went up to 3490, SRW F250 with the 6.7. Without the max payload package a Lariat has a payload of 2177, or atleast the one I looked at, these trucks are great, but if you don’t know what your doing, you will think since it’s a HD truck I can pull anything, nope, not safely. And if you did all I mentioned, then you have to get your payload recertification from the DOT and email that information to Ford. After that you get your new payload sticker to put in place of your old one. Airbags are great and have their place.

@FordF-Super4 жыл бұрын
TimothyVincent StBarts I did a lot of research before ordering mine, that 60 gallon tank itself weighs in around 55 lbs, add 60 gallons of diesel, that alone is 535lbs, bed cover around 45, rug 10, bed slide, idk atleast 75, it’s a safe bet he added 700 minus the regular tank full of fuel, 400lbs, tongue weighs on that airstream has to be around 850-1000 loaded, always go to the heavy side to be safe, 1000+400+500 for gear+400people, he is pushing it, sure the truck can handle it and they will be fine, the DOT and Insurance company will go by the payload sticker if there is ever an accident, I CAT Scale at 1100 on the hitch loaded, and GCVWR is on the scale is 15,327 loaded, full fuel, and black, grey and drinking water full. I’m not bashing on the dude, he seems really cool and takes care of his family it seems, just wanted to point out by adding air bags you do not add capacity, I added bags to mine for only one reason, with the Hensley Hitch and air bags, I have absolutely zero proposing, it toes like a dream,

Ford F-250 6.7 Super Thank you for clearing up my question on the airbag addition. I use mine just for leveling up if needed. I have ranch hand front and rear bumpers taking a lot of my payload so I’m thinking of removing both and going back to stock. And by the way the tongue weight on a 30ft bunk house AS is about 654# but you’re right closer to 1000#’s. I also carry 2-90# Kayaks and about 75# worth of Thule loading bars on my roof if my truck. I have had the bed rug for over 15 years. It’s still going strong even though it has been abused. The one thing that I recommend is improving the Velcro on the tailgate and back corners where the tie downs are. That has been my only complaint. Keep in mind that you can’t slide anything over it. Usually just snags and pulls. I recommend a piece of plywood when you have to slide things in and out. With the rolling storage drawer, you probably will never need to experience this. I will say that the bed rug really comes in handy if you have a drive-inn movie theater. I would also like to try out a truck bed tent with the bed rug. I am betting that it would be nice companion.

My two cents is a truck is used to haul stuff so a long bed is the only choice for me, and a bed slide contraption, however slick it is, takes up too much bed space. Got to say I love your newest truck, and the last truck for that matter, and the fuel tank upgrade makes the grade with me. Love the channel and take care folks.

Nice I'm lovin the bed slide, BAKflip, and 60g fuel tank. I'd consider the airbags and air compressor too.....hmmmm. The airbags would just be a nicety though since as you know we have a 25' Flying Cloud FB. It's pretty light for our F250 to pull. You probably don't want to get into now with such a new truck as I'm sure it would void your warranty, but consider doing a full EGR delete kit later on. My 09 F250 runs and pulls like never before. It's 6.4L and produces a freight train worth of power. We did a mini-max tuner with all the 6.4 delete tunes as well as doing the delete tunes for the transmission. She shifts just buttery smooth now. As far as our exhaust we had the whole factory EGR exhaust removed and replaced with a straight Flo-Pro exhaust pipe....That truck can finally breathe and sounds like a jet idling when you do a walk around! Plus we are getting almost 21-22mpg unloaded and 16-17 loaded with the trailer....Great vLog really enjoyed it.

We are on our second Bak Flip too. Both F1s. 3 panels on the shortbed 2500 Ram. 4 panels on the longbed F450.

Such a great idea to separate the truck frame when on a lift.

Love the upgrades. I have fab pages for my upgrades. I started the family camping in a three room tent for two years. Then I spoiled them with a new Winabego 27B

Great video, you’ll be glad you did all of the upgrades, esp on the road for seven months! Way to go!

When going thru Canada and in New Brunswick take the back road out of Saint John to the Bay of Fundy national park beautiful views there is an awesome seafood place on the way also must see Hopewell Rocks largest tide change in the world. also enjoyed PEI. Your upgrades are always top notch I put my compressor in a full width tool box along with the tank and ran the plumbing out to the back. Back flip is great but to solve the vision problem I think they make a roll up that is much easier to use. and not block you vision Your bed rug will get wet with the flip back flip been there done that. Great video as always just my 2 cents have fun be safe.

Nova Scotia? Awesome! We also have plans to visit NS in August, right now can't do any camping in Ontario but hopefully interprovincial travel and camping will be allowed in Canada by then... There is good "dig your own" clamming in Five Islands area and there are even some decent wineries in the area believe it or not. Have a safe and fun trip!

Awesome Upgrades.. those up fitter switches are nice to have when adding accessories, especially air horns, you can run a toggle through an up fitter so when you hit the steering wheel the air horn blows or in states where they are illegal, you can flip the switch back to the regular horn.

Yeah!! You guys got a Traeger! Been watching you from day 1 and everytime Trish is cooking, I say to the wife, "man, they need a Traeger" If you ever have questions, I know a thing or two about it.😉

Very sweet setup. I can see how the upgrades will make a difference in "quality of life" on the road. I hope things end up improving and you are able to take your trip - as of now, the border is closed to non-essential traffic and there's no sign of that changing anytime soon - maybe in the fall if you're lucky. If not now, I hope you can make it sometime - it's a beautiful place worth exploring. And I don't want to be that person, but it's a pet peeve so I can't help it.... a "verse" is a part of a song you sing. If you are comparing things, use "versus". (*ducks*)

You're right. Most of the upgrades just make things easier.

The train horn has been around a few seasons. It deserves its own episode. Glad you use different manufacturers for products and share the pros and cons. Have a great night.

I bought that train horn 23 years ago and never wanted to install it bc we knew we were getting ride of the truck. We're keeping this one and it's going in asap!

@@KeepYourDaydream "keeping this one" OMG I am laughing so hard. Install it so you can take it out easy. if you keep the truck how will we see any more upgrades when you buy a real truck? Don't let owning a ford keep you from going out off road they can make it some places. (dig, dig) I owned a ford once too.

I put a bedrug and that exact model of Bakflip on my Colorado. Love it. Had a spray in liner on my last truck but easier on the knees to crawl around the bed with a bedrug.

Cliff's must be awesome you even spelled labar (labor) special for them. When you call the fuel tank non-essential did you ask Trish? That ford will go off road also just because you have a ford don't let that stop you from getting out there you guys. You can get air controllers that regulate the maximum air pressure and you may want to consider that inline on the air bags so they cannot accidentally get over inflated. I hope you guys are able to do your trip and have fun. Be safe and stay healthy. Hope cone head is all better with no cone.

I had no clue what you were talking about with the truck cap. I'm not sure my truck would want to wear a hat? And the Tonto cover is a must have!

I gotta say that there are a few truck caps with rails that look damn good on a Ford FX4.

Hey Marc, With the added weights of all this equipment AND the additional fuel weight in the larger fuel tank...... It seems that another trip to the *CAT SCALES* is needed!!! [GREAT news for Trish.... her favorite!!!]

Another wonderful episode for these unusual times, if there is any silver lining to this, it’s that you can prep for your trip without feeling rushed. The customization of the the truck is well thought out, I would compare it too customizing an Office so that it’s effective and comfortable for you and for completing your activities. We will be looking forward to next weeks episode, Be Well, Be Safe and Happy Trails Ahead. ☺️👍👍👍

I have the hard fold up cover myself. Love it! It provides much better security that a soft cover, easy to clean and operate in summer or winter. Can go through a car wash and it's bone dry inside afterwards due to water tight construction and channels that drain water away. I would NEVER go with a roll up cover, as I'm a tradesman. Come winter, once you get ice, you are fucked. That cover will never open up because both sides where it slides will be frozen up solid.

I’m really liking the Back Flip bed cover. Also I’ve always been a Dodge truck guy but I was a fan of the F450. Now I really like the new F250.

LOVE your new rig! So much jelly over here! One major advantage to a bed topper: You'd prolly gain 3-4 MPG towing.
