Hey mister. This is a great tutorial. One question thou. I have my Fusion 2017 SE, but it has only 1 key fob which works fine. Can I get a new key fob from ebay and program it like this way or this works only when you have 2 original key fobs?

You have to get one from the dealer unfortunately, which is why I made three copies

Great video! just curious i lost one on my key fobs so now I only have 1 but I bought another one is there anyway to program it without having both factory keys?

You’ll have to take it to the dealer and have it programmed without that second one. But if you do that still get a third or fourth one. I did five of them actually that was my total was five including the two I got but right now I can only find three of the five since I gave it to my wife.

Followed this with an eBay key, the car said it was programmed correctly but none of the buttons work and the key will not turn the car on unless it is in the slot. I already checked the battery and it’s brand new. Any ideas?

Colin Campbell I would say you may have a bad key fob from eBay. If you follow the instructions it should work I’ve done four of them I bought them all from one guy a couple years ago. But even he had a few key fobs that didn’t work or there was some other reason. There are a couple rules that you can’t forget make sure that nothing is on make sure that the doors are shut good don’t tap the brakes or anything and remember the time rules. Also You might check where the key fob fits in the cupholder, that it’s clean. Give it a couple more tries and see if it works other than that you may have a bad fob

Also if or when you get the second one, you will probably have to get it from the dealer. That’s what I had to do on my last Ford fusion which is why when I got my new Ford fusion I made two duplicates, so I would never ever have to go back to Ford and suffer through $300 for a key fob! Then go to eBay and get your blank fob, when I got mine they were about $60 with shipping

Beso William You got to have two unfortunately I found that out the hard way when I had to go to the dealer and buy a second key because someone stole my original second key and I paid over $200 to get the second key. That’s when I decided to make three more and I shit you not I have five keys to my car now!

My 2009 Ford fusion cost me over $180 for a spare fob. That is why when I got my 2017 Ford fusion I decided to buy several extra fobs online for about 50 bucks apiece and then program them myself. It’s a rip offFrom Ford at Best because it doesn’t take them any time to do it and if I’m paying $50 for the fob I guarantee you they’re paying a lot less so it’s almost all profit. Plus if you look at my dislikes I guarantee you they’re all for employees who don’t like that I’ve screwed up one of their cash cows

Micah Tibbe There are plenty of different people selling them someone as much as the dealer others want under $60 the guy I got this from I had a guarantee and I bought three from him and they all three work. And I guess the easiest way to look it up just type in 17 through 19 ford fusion ford edge proximity sensor and key fob in the search box and itShould come up with him

Pretty lame that you have to have both keys. I mean usually one doesn't need to do this unless they lost one. I'm going to try this with only one remote by removing and replacing the same remote to see if it will program a replacement anyway. Probably won't work but has anybody tried that? I know the Ford instruction say you must have both original remotes but hopefully their system can be dumbed by removing and installing the same remote twice. You know how Ford crap is pretty dumb anyway, so maybe it will work. Take a look where the interior fuse block location and tell me Ford isn't dumb, or the way the silly power windows sometime don't close and reopen all the way--love that in the rain.

chris smith the manual says that you have to have both keys you were given when you purchase your car to make a third set and if you look inside the manual you will see that they ask you to have both sets of keys before you ever attempt this

tr mi Having two programmed "keys" is a security measure. If you use a valet parking, or someone gains access to one of your keys, only having one eliminates the possibility of them programming one for themselves and gaining access to your car.

Does anybody else have a problem with accidentally hitting the key fob while it's in your pocket. Every day I set the stupid alarm off by accident. The other day my trunk was full of snow because I must have accidentally hit the trunk button. Sometimes I go outside and all my windows are down. This key fob design is horrible. My last car was a 2003 acura TL and I never once had a problem with the key fob. Unfortunately the new Acuras have this same key fob style as the Ford so theres no getting away from it now. I may as well go back to cars that use keys

Tony Vincent Well it doesn’t happen on the Ford fusion but I have a 2017 Ford fiesta that that happens on. I’ve learned to be very careful with that stupid key fob because it would set off the alarm and wake my neighbors

Rick Edwards it would be nice if they could at least design a key fob cover that covers up the buttons when your not using it so you aren’t constantly hitting the buttons but that would be too much work. I have a 2018 Ford Fusion hybrid that will probably get snowed in and rained at least a few times a year because of the key fob

There could be a couple problems. Did you get a new fob from eBay? I can’t guarantee if they’re good or not but the ones I have bought have all worked perfectly after programming. It could be the battery inside of the remote you might want to check it to make sure it’s strong enough. I’ll just send that if you follow the procedure that I mentioned and if you’ve read the other comments most other people haven’t had any issues doing this so I would suspect it’s probably Fob

I don’t know what you’re doing or not doing. Do you have both key fobs and is your cupholder area clean below that mat. If the mat is dirty or sticky it may not work. Make sure that your foot is not on the brake because if it is on the brake it won’t work. Sometimes it’s natural to touch the brake and if you do it will erase what you’re doing. Make sure that both batteries are good inside both fobs. And good luck try it again

Euwing I couldn’t get it to do it you have to have both keys that’s why you do it when you first get your two sets of keys because I made the mistake of losing one paying $250 to have a new one and when I finally woke up from my strokes of hearing how much it cost I did the research and found out for $70 and even less you could make another key so I made four!

Well you can get another key made and have to but it’s going to cost you the first time at the dealership. Then you go ahead and get your third key in your fourth key made by going through eBay. When I did it because I wasn’t smart enough on my 2009 Ford fusion to duplicate it it cost me $250 or more but I learned after that and made three duplicates that cost me less than $100 for all three of them on the 2009 fusion
