I have a 2009 Great Wall 240V I bought new. It's been OK with just a few issues. 1, It broke a clutch spring once and it was a slow limp home trying to change gears and 2, it blew a head gasket and it cost almost what it's worth to get the head reconditioned. It struggles to pull a loaded 8x5 trailer up hills. But it has served me well for what I needed it for. These new ones look ok and if I wanted more of the same for use I'd consider but I need better towing ability so I'll be looking to a Ford 3.2 Ranger, a Mazda BT50 or a Toyota Hi-Lux SR.

as ALL car manufactures, the first 10 years or so are crap, give them another 5 years, and you will see, the chinese dominating less expensive car market, just as the japanese did back in the day, just as korea now with hyundai & kia subarus their first cars specially in the US would rust to the frame, they were absolutely crap, i also remember hyundai 15 yrs ago were much worse than great wall, look at them now... do i like it?, no, i wish the national car makers such as holden and ford (even tho they arent really aussie) would learn the lesson they have been schooled in every corner of the world as far car pricing goes. Mcdonalds would never been a giant by selling $20 dollar burgers.

Points for that insightful comment. I find it very amusing when people knock the Chinese car industry, as they did the Koreans before that, and the Japanese before that. You'd think people would've learned from history just a little...

It is a mega classic brand in China becuause of its increcibly durable enginnering design compare to its price, I think the same principle aplies to the inernational version, by which I mean : For such aan affrotable price, it is really incredible to get such level of durability and engineering excellency!!! If you planned on spending only so much on a pickup and you want the BEST OF THE BEST quality in the world, choose Great Wall, it is really the quality king in the lower price range of a pickup, worldwide!

Work was chuffed when they found a Great Wall Turbo Diesel Ute for $4500, not even a year later and literally nobody wants to drive the POS, the thing has been bogged in sand so many times because the Turbo has to think for 5 seconds before it realizes you're mashing your foot on the accelerator. I feel bad for anyone that would take these offroading. Literally the old flogged crapped out 90's 2WD Holden Rodeos and Ford Courier Utes we have are far more capable at offroading than that hunk of junk. People have good reason to hate this crap.

I'll be honest, they are coming along pretty well with the GW Steed. I'm looking forward to its entry here in the U.S. The truck market sucks here. You literally see the same 5 or 6 trucks on the road everywhere you go. They are all basically the same...and a normal person can't afford them. It would be refreshing to see a well built truck at an affordable price again.

@BenzinioB
@BenzinioB 8 жыл бұрын
Well but spending 10 grand more is over 1/3 of the price of the GW... So saving this 10k and selling the Steed just after the guarantee expire you can by yourself a brand new petrol one... that is a huge difference! more over as far as I know the 4x4 models gearbox is Borg Warner, which is quite common and reliable and the diesel engine is based on the Hyundai last generation 2.0L diesel which is also quite good... yes they have a lot to learn in terms of fine tune and building quality but boy... 10 grand are quite a lot of money!

Yeah but it's a borg warner made under licence in China, not the same quality, same as the engine.

Why complain about lack of power at 110kW ? That's more than any 20 year old ute including Toyota ever had, plus the Great Wall has an extra gear, that's what gears are for. Big hills or big loads change down, or doesn't anyone under 35 know how to drive manuals any more?

It is very good indeed. I'm loving mine, just waiting for the suggested run-in period to end. Keeping the revs low is tiring. It's so refined, lovely on the road, especially on the highway. It has more than enough up the hills in my opinion (my previous car being a BMW 320d). Going on gravel, it feels just as smooth and refined as on-road. It's quieter and a little more comfortable to live with than the BMW, although the BMW seats quality is definitely a bit better.

In 2010 I traded my triton ute on a Great Wall v240 two wheel drive ute, still have it going fine. The tray will carry more than a tonne of blue road screenings without sagging in the arse like the triton used to. It was cheap to changeover also, I recall it only cost me 79 fat lambs!

Trouble is everyone is spoilt here in Australia in regards to expectations. Also we as a society are very critical. After owning the Great Wall ute range for the money there is absolutely nothing wrong with them. Agreed a bit rough round the edges but as a work vehicle and a general runabout I would (and still do) own one these 👍

10L/100KM for petrol and 9L/100Km for diesel. I'm pretty sure they use Mitsubishi engines so they should be fairly reliable. My boss owns a V240 and it hasn't given him any problems (and it has had a really rough life). If you're looking to buy one, drive it first, and compare it to how other models like the triton drive, and decide for yourself if the better driving dynamics are worth the extra $10K.

I don’t think there is xenophobia against asian cars. This is still bad. It’s getting better, but still no good. Japanese cars are today more trustable than German cars, which are not bad but they have a non justifiable price compared to the failures they show and they are chosen by people who are either show boats or speeders. The American are now at the 3rd place. I think Chinese cars will be growing in credibility for the next decades and who knows in 30 more years we’ll be buying them as we buy Toyota, Honda, Mitsubishi or Nissan.
