Outstanding Brock. All that hard work, and video editing, people have no idea. The sound of the Alien Head 2 exhaust was beastly, an experience in of itself, wow! 190-195 hp range with huge torque after tuning with the Alien Head 2 on pump gas. So we probably have 190+ hp on pump gas for Predator Exhaust Titanium (road racing), 15 lbs less weight, and great sound. Suzuki nailed it, from stock to Brock, I love it. This bike is going to be amazing on the track, untouchable with the right rider, both road racing and drag! After watching this, I think I'm going to have to set my traction control 1 setting safer when all is bolted and dusted :-) Dang what a machine!! Nice Brock, very nice. It just keeps gettin' better.

Thanks @Alex Johnson - We do this type of development work for every Brock's performance exhaust we sell, and have for many years. Our biggest issue is that we don't have access to bikes early (like the bike guys) so we have to start product development after the bikes hit dealer floors - it takes us a little longer, but the wait is worth it.

"Less negative pressure", absolutely makes a huge difference, and how do I know this? I run a custom vacuum still, sometimes 1000 millibars below atmospheric pressure, and I can tell you even a 10 millibar variance can make a huge difference in the performance of the still, and we are talking about less negative pressure not positive pressure. Now while a still and gasoline combustion engine have a lot differences, the range of vacuum (pressure) in both is paramount to optimum performance.

Brock their was a day long long time ago back in 1980, my beast the H2 750 with Denco Chambers it was so dam loud that you couldn't hear the space shuttle, lol. Them were the days I would go to Lang Hindles garage watching him fabricating Headers for his KZ 900 along with KZ1000. Back in them days if you built it right you got big power out them pipes, but major pain in the ass jet remember Lang had large board from everything from pilot jet , air, jet,, but most important the needle jet shims just get it spot on. For top end performance I was the Ginny pig that would go on the highway have screaming every year till 4th cut the engine pull over side remove all 4 plugs just to see the colours. We've come a long way not only the nightmares of having them run well, but today pipes are built so well so much R&D goes into them. Mostly great weight savings nice sound. Yet to see a pipe give out over 20 HP like golden era of superbike. Brock I been trying to work on bikes from the triples no Suzuki's, lol, when things really heated up 80s big bore love that GS 1150, to real superbike days 1985 that the year we owe all this to that era. I have an 07 10R, and would have bought the Racefit Growler if I didn't have to shave the swing arm, but I do like the undertail exhaust. Just my opinion, not bashing. Thanks for the in-depth videos.

@BurningBroadcast7 жыл бұрын
It amazing me how much of this stuff matters. I dont know anything about exhausts and was always under the impression, exhaust shit as fast as possible = best. Randomly stumbled across this video and I am glad I did, very interesting Brock. New GSX-R is a real beauty too. Pure out of curiosity, what would be the benefits or downsides of ending the exhaust before it even goes under the bike and exhausting it to the ground or sides. Aside from weight saving ,would it reduce performance anywhere? Because as you explain with the drag pipe, moving air, shortening the pipes would mean it moves air out faster wouldn't it?
@BrockDavidson7 жыл бұрын
Thanks! And great question. Extremely short headpipes can seriously hamper low-end performance in naturally aspirated situations. You will notice that most turbo charged and almost all supercharger race bikes have very short exhausts, as their power adders compensate for any reduction in low-end. Our Alein Head is as compact as we know how to make a short pipe - the muffler itself is a short/tapered megaphone, which helps eliminate the need for a longer elbow pipe to keep peak power high and not hamper mid/low end power due to minimized overall lenght.

How does the Predator exhaust compared to the alien head exhaust what's the horsepower difference
@sleezediditify5 жыл бұрын
Exactly
@joshflics2183 Жыл бұрын
What I'm getting from these videos is that the majority of the horsepower gains come from deristricting the throttle alone. the mapping gives a little bit extra but not by as much. Is that correct?
@BrockDavidson Жыл бұрын
From a purely power standpoint, that's becoming the case more and more. The problem is that while this is going on, driveability continues to suffer even more... Which makes proper mapping critical not only when it comes to power and rideability, but also acceleration.
@Bubblelover136 жыл бұрын
I have a question and I've been searching the internet high and low for it maybe you can help me. so I know you can run MR12 on a stock motor but its basically a waste of money unless your ECU has been mapped for MR12 but my question is can you run MR12 mapping on 93 octane? is it good bad or no difference.
@BrockDavidson6 жыл бұрын
MR12 will achieve it's best performance results when the air-fuel ratio (AFR) is properly adjusted for its use. This fuel adjustment can come via an ECU fuel adjustment or via a 'piggyback' fuel controller (Dynojet PCV, Bazzaz controller etc...) If the ECU is mapped for MR12, the AFR will be far too rich for use with 93 octane. Your bike will still run, but sluggish performance, 'lurching' (lack of smoothness... like an engine with an oversize cam), excessive soot at the exaust tip and poor fuel mileage will result. To combat this, we leave the ECU fuel map alone (but derestrict other areas of the ECU for maximum performance) and use a map selector switch to easily convert from a pump gas map to an MR12 map as easily as flicking the switch (no computer required). Please call our customer service team for more info. 937-912-0054.
@Bubblelover136 жыл бұрын
Brock Davidson oh ok I appreciate that!Thoroughly explained. I’ve had my ECU flashed (Brentune) for about a yr now and I have 2 flashes one for 93 and one for MR12 I was just curious of how my bike performance would be using the MR12 map but using 93. Didn’t want to risk messing anything up so I didn’t put it to the test.

Just out of curiosity you said you can plug the crossover, can you just pinch it closed? Honest question
@BrockDavidson3 жыл бұрын
It's normally open, so you would need to remove the cables and safety wire it closed. The problem with that is you will lose peak power because the OEM header pipe diameters are so small. The valve basically lets all 4 pipes evacuate all 4 cylinders are high rpms only. Its very ingenious...but it's also restrictive by design.

Hey Brock, great video and info as everyone else has already stated. I thought you forgot about this series, I have been waiting and waiting even though I'm subscribed, I still was just your website and if to make sure I didn't miss a video. Come out with the next one quickly please lol! Since you say the drag strip is a great tool, will you test the alien head exhaust with flashed ecu and tuned against the predator exhaust flashed and tuned. Since they both make similar numbers without tuning, I'm curious to see how they perform in real world application. I don't know about any other but when I watch your videos, I take notes. There aren't too many motorcycle info vids that gives solid info like that out there that make me feel like I have to write down. Keep up the great work. I like the headers on the alien head but not the muffler so much. Do you have any plans to have different looking mufflers that will fit the different headers like the alien head and predator design? I personally think this would be a lucrative financial benefit for your company.

hi brock! i have watched your video about exhaust section, but i didnt found the answer of my question. i wanna ask , why after change stock exhaust with aftermarket freeflow exhaust, somehow my bike surging in some rpm. did changing full system freeflow exhaust make my bike leaner? but when baffled it become normal(not surging anymore)
@BrockDavidson6 жыл бұрын
Hello Christian - what you are describing can typically be tuned out. Your ECU was not designed and it is not internally tuned for a high-flow exhaust (this can cause a lean condition in some areas, and a rich condition in other areas - it depends upon how your exhaust is designed. By inserting the baffle, you have reduced the flow to a point which more closely matches the bikes original exhaust/tune, so surge problems can be greatly reduced.
@christiansugiharto5906 жыл бұрын
Brock Davidson thanks for your reply Brock. may i know the afr value can cause lean surge? thanks Brock!
@BrockDavidson6 жыл бұрын
Most people believe that surges are due to a lean condition, and this was almost always the case with carburated machines. But many times today's monitoring equipment shows it is a rich condition on fuel injected bikes. We keep our AFR's between 12.8 and 13.6 for most hot street applications

Great stuff brock! Another point to make about the crossovers on the exhaust are they even out the pulse width of the exhaust to decrease back pressure of the exhausting piston and increase back pressure on the piston preparing to fire creating more torque supposedly. Big fan of your work! Im sure you will pick up 10hp easy once you tune the commander for the exhaust and put an intake on it. We will probably be looking at a 205hp bike pretty soon. How much you want for it when you're done playing with it? LOL

I believe we answer the first part of your question at 31:37? As far as comparing both pipes, we didn't have room in this video. But here are some previous Predator exhaust results: facebook.com/BrocksPerformance/videos/10154655332516472/
@zerugar7 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the reply, sorry for being unclear! I meant unrestricted ecu with stock exhaust like the EU-model of the bike as it should make around 180hp peak. Maybe you had it in a previous video where you discussed the throttle plate restriction... It would have been nice to have in the overlay at 31:37, as what I understand it's currently the: 'stock ecu/stock exhaust', 'stock ecu/your exhaust' and 'unrestricted ecu/your exhaust'. So it's just the addition of 'unrestricted ecu/stock exhaust' I'm looking for.

@Brock Davidson, Just one question. Your other exhaust (not the alien head 2) comes with the noise insert. Yoshimura Alpha T race full exhaust system comes with a similar looking baffle. Are you saying universally those things hurt peak power? I got into a fairly long argument with a guy dyno tuning my bike. (not an unhealthy argument, I respect his expertise but he wants me to pay an extra 300 dollars to redyno my bike because I didn't know it came with insert installed). He said these exhaust systems should not have baffles removed it will actually reduce peak power. Where as I was saying the opposite. Been awaiting a direct answer from Yoshimura as to why that full system comes with the insert installed.

@William, there is a large difference between a noise reduction insert (NRD) and a baffle/muffler. The noise reduction insert is an intentional ( typically removable) restriction in the exhaust outlet designed to help eliminate noise. The NRD is inserted into the baffle (located inside the muffler) and YES this restriction hurts peak power. Consider it a 'restrictor plate' on the exhaust side of the engine. Removing the baffle is a different story: it would be like running our Alien Head or Predator, etc... with no muffler whatsoever. All Brock's Performance exhaust systems come with mapping to compensate for the use of a noise reduction insert, or without. Our ShortMeg's and Sidewinders can be run without the baffle installed, so we offer additional mapping for no baffle use when required. It's not uncommon for us to offer 3-6 maps for some bikes/pipe combinations. These maps are supplied at no charge with all Brock's Performance full exhaust systems. Of course, your dyno operator will charge you to create separate maps for various combinations. Hi Brock, thank you for your really detailed explanation of the exhaust. My question is what would you say when i take out the catalyst from the original exhaust and drive with active exhaust valves, would the gixxer lose horse power in midrange or on the top? I am from Europe and wouldnt loose the sound emissions but would gain some power, so im thinking about this option.
@BrockDavidson5 жыл бұрын
The gixxer has intitionally small diameter exhaust headpipes, you can remove the cataylist, but the headpipes will still prevent maximum peak power output, especially if the crossover valve is removed. I don't know if removing the catalyst will hamper or hurt midrange as the addional exhaust volume provided by the catalyst tends to help power output. If this helps answer your question.

Hi Brock i have a question i removed the cat from my 2017 gsxr 1000r what should i do with the valves in the headers should I keep them close or open
@BrockDavidson4 жыл бұрын
There is no answer to that question other than replacing the headpipes if you want maximum performance as the OEM headpipes are designed for use with the valves. Leave them open, low end power suffers - leave them closed, high end power suffers. It's a lose-lose.

@@BrockDavidson yes i notice a lost of power and im not sure if the bike is running lean but hopefully when all this virus situation is over I'm going for that Alien head full system thanks Brock

What is the difference in readings from a 5th gear pull to a 4th gear pull Brock
@BrockDavidson7 жыл бұрын
It really depends on the bike. Typically not much, if anything.

Good job ! So with a flash and pipe, then tuned we should be at or around 190 hp. Should compete great with a BMW 1000R.

Getting ready to buy the full system alien head full system is it just as loud as the zx10r with the alien head as the new gsxr 1000?
@BrockDavidson7 жыл бұрын
Yes. Our Alien Head 2 sports our most aggressive sound, regardless of make/model etc.
