That 43 mpg is pretty impressive for doing 75mph in a 100 loop. If you tested it again at 60-65mph, I think you would see 3-4 mpg improvement on fuel efficiency.

So I own this car and personal observation... I get between 40 and 50 miles per gallon depending on the road grade with an overall mpg of 42 mpg. By road grade I will say there appears to be a "sweet spot" in regard to hilly terrain that can get up to 55 plus mpg but when driving in the reverse direction you will see 45 minus mpg. I believe there are algorithms that control the switching between electric, motor and combined that are influenced by specific terrain conditions, down to the length of downhill vs uphill road distance and level terrain for that matter. I also get significantly better mileage on the highway than city (contrary to the published epa stats)... 40 or so city, 45 + highway. Overall I am really happy with the car and the mpg!!!

I have a 2017 EX-L with 19000 miles and bought it straight off the truck. It is one of he last vehicles Honda ships from Japan. They’re now made in USA for 2018 onward. I drive 65 miles r/t to work with city/rural roads with speeds from 35-70 mph and average 48+ mpg in the winter and 43+ in the summer with AC on full blast. Eco mode and using B mode at times. Our other home is in Utah and is 520 miles from our AZ home. Driving state roads and I-15 through Las Vegas we get there on 1 tank and still have fuel leftover. We’ve averaged 43mpg. The only downside we’ve ran into is that it hates grades. Driving in Utah to Brian Head (elevation around 9000’), the car sounded like it was about to explode. With no real tachometer, you just have to watch the “power” level max out! It is still fun to drive and it’s nice only filling up every 2 weeks or less.

I own one. If you drove the car at 60, you'd get 48 MPG. It suffers at higher speed (65 isn't too bad). In around-town driving, I can get into the low 50s with regular use of cruise control, which isn't hard in this car, because it's adaptive. I *never* use sport mode. Too much fun. :) I think you mis-characterized the driveline. As I understand it, the engine mostly just produces electricity for the motor. In very limited circumstances (between about 40 and 50 MPH), it will provide drive to the wheels via a one speed transmission. You can watch this happening on one of the displays. I like the car, although it's hard to get used to the variable engine noise at high speeds on rolling highways.
@CoreyJones3147 жыл бұрын
Confirmed. Depending on A/C usage, humidity, ambient temperature, altitude, and the phase of the moon, it can get as high as 60mpg. I've only seen numbers at or below 40mpg on very short trips with aggressive driving - or at high speeds on the freeway (80+mph).
@johnavelisjr.91787 жыл бұрын
All moving objects "suffer at higher speed." Google up a graph showing how wind resistance increases with speed; get around 60 and the curve starts to go logarithmic.* *This means that as you go faster, the wind resistance increases faster than 1,2,3,4, it's more like 2,4,8,16. This is why meteors and old space junk burn up on entering the earth's atmosphere.
@nathanielpina65688 жыл бұрын
I think testing a hybrid at 75mph is pointless. If you routinely go 75mph you don't need a hybrid, IMO. I have a 2017 Accord hybrid touring and drive 60mph or below just over 100 miles per day everyday. I use adaptive cruise heavily. I consistently get 52-56MPG on 85 octane. I accelerate slow and brake slow to maximize battery life. For me, the little extra time to drive conservatively pays for itself in fuel. Getting 700+ miles per tank is easy.

I actually appreciate that the test was done at 75 MPH because EPA fuel economy ratings are based on driving at 55 MPH, which is essentially the fuel economy magic number because much further and air drag becomes increasingly more burdensome. But I live in a desert, so nearly all of my miles are on highways, most at 75 MPH.
@JBM4257 жыл бұрын
Actually, most testers have found that the sweet spot for mileage in the Accord Hybrid goes up to 65 MPH. It's beyond that where you start to lose MPG. But you'll find radically lower mileage at 75 MPH in a gas engine as well; the difference is, the drop off occurs at lower speeds in a gas engine than most hybrids.

This was a great hybrid, I remember in 2015 when the Honda Accord Hybrid became the top selling hybrid, this hybrid smoked the Toyota Camry Hybrid, Honda has been struggling for a long time when it comes to cars with electric motors, most were discontinued back then for poor sales, however Honda refused to give up and finally made one the best cars with an electric motor. The Accord Hybrid and CR-Z Hybrid were the last 2 for now, the electric Hondas that failed and were discontinued: Insight Hybrid, Civic Hybrid, Fit EV, Accord "Plug In" Hybrid, and they also had a hydrogen fuel cell vehicle I forgot what it's called. Hondas are still awesome

I own a 2015 Accord Hybrid. For 75 mph, 42mpg or so sounds about right. However, for my actual driving in the local area, I'm averaging well over 50 mpg for 3 years. My best tankful was 60 MPG for 900+ miles on one tank (summertime, all local driving). This car's economy is VERY sensitive to high speeds; so, the 75-mph test shows it in the worst possible light.

Not at all. On the highway here in flat Florida, it's simply a matter of staying in the right lane, and going the minimum allowed speed limit. I actually gotnit to about 46 mpg the other day over like 12 miles doing this. But I have driven from Tampa, Florida, to Fayetteville, North Carolina on one tank of gas and averaged right about 38.2 on that trip. I could have averaged higher by going about 5 mph slower the whole way. But again, my 2007 CR-V is rated at 20 city, 27 highway. So yeah, if I had my hands on this Accord, I'd be willing to bet I could achieve high 70's to mid 80's. I've also hypermiled my mom's 2015 Honda Fit and can easily achieve a tank average above 50 mpg and it's rated at 38 mpg on the highway.
