I review the 2018 Hyundai Elantra Sport with the 7-speed dual clutch transmission. With a 1.6L turbo 4 doing 201 hp, the 2018 Elantra Sport is a fun little car for not much money! Huge thanks to #1 Cochran Hyundai of Monroeville for providing the car! Their inventory can be viewed here: www.cochranhyun...

I test drove the manual too and was pretty impressed too. Incredible value for the money considering you can get these things for under $20K. I wouldn't bother with the DCT though......manual way more fun.

Have had mine for about a month now and have put 2000 miles on it... absolutely love it. Did a ton of research before purchasing and I do not believe there is a better value for your money available today. After rebates and discounts I was out the door for $17,000. It's absolutely worth taking a look at if you're in the market!

Great review! I just test drove this car earlier today, and I've gotta say this car is just about perfect. To hell with motortrend and car and driver. If it was up to them everyone would be commuting to work with spinebreaking STIs. No, real people use their cars for more than just autocross. This isn't a track car, it's a usable sports car. This car is fantastically well rounded, it's the total Red Mage/Jack of all Trades car. Good performance, good looks, the best warranty , good interior, good space, and a laundry list of features for cheaps. I got quoted for the Sport with the premium package (msrp 25) for 21k. That's corolla pricing. Give it a try, I guarantee you won't be disappointed

Wow, what an amazing coincidence, A review of the CX5 recently (which I bought) and now an ES (which I crossshopped with the Si, but ended up with the other). My 2 cents: They are both excellent cars, but depends on how rough of an experience you want. the ES is definitely on the comfort side. Leather seats, Auto available, softer suspension, much better infotainment, and the value is amazing The civic is more of the drivers car. It's stiffer, slightly better steering feel but MUCH faster of a steering rack (it's 2 turns lock to lock). Brakes are unbelievable on, and provides so much more confidence. it has a Limited slip. No leather seats but you sit much much lower and more aggressive bolstering. and while you pay more upfront, you probably get more in resale when fun time is over and you are roped into a CUV Size wise I bought the coupe which is shorter than the sedan, It still feels bigger, but nimbleness is about the same to me (probably because it's 100 lbs lighter than the ES). End of the day, you can't go wrong with either. For me I chose the civic just for having an LSD and the steering rack, but Those are just simple pros and cons people value differently.

Super nice interior, option of either a manual or a dual clutch auto, both fantastic transmissions, tons of features and value, and surprisingly good power in a package that you can walk out the door with for 18 grand new. It looks fantastic too. What's not to love about it?

There was a change from 2017 to 2018. The sunroof and rear cross traffic alert which were part of the premium package in 2017 became standard equipment in 2018. Because of that, the MSRP jumped $150.

Trading my 14 Veloster in for an 18 Elantra Sport this month. Super excited to own one of these. I test drove it and it feels like an amazing car, and a great upgrade from a Velo. Like Matt said at the beginning, it's a mature look on the exterior and nothing over the top. Beautiful, solid machine and it definitely has some get up and go to it! Passing a car is quick and easy even with the DCT even without being in sport mode. Hyundai has been upping their game year after year for the past decade and they're the one brand that grew on me as an enthusiast. They've come a long way in a short time, and if they're at this point with quality, style, reliability and drivability NOW, give it another few years and see what they have in store for us!!

Just purchased mine on March 5th. The car can be very split personality in the sense that it’ll be an economy car, or a tyre eating sporty sedan. I’ve managed to get 450 miles out of a full tank by anticipating traffic, and terrain. But I’ve also gotten 300 miles out of a full tank by having a bit of fun. The car hates being driven cold, so it needs to warm up a little. And warming up takes longer than some other cars. The car hates inching in traffic. The transmission and clutch will jolt you around a little. But if you respect the car and the shortcomings, you’ll never notice it’s there. Overall, I’m satisfied with the car. I can drive around the little gremlins, so I don’t have anything to complain about. If you live where there’s a lot of bumper to bumper traffic, avoid the DCT.

Got my sport model with 6spd in white with the spoiler. And enjoying it!! Break in engine slow but some times I do rev to 4000 rpm cuz of long roads I live in and ppl are fast drivers here.. Really enjoy it, the engine the smoothness and the muffler, and surprisingly its quiet in the inside. And comes with good tires for wet roads and noise reduction and handling.. Been getting lots of compliments on this car also tint windows from factory.. Had Honda for 12 yrs si 07 model still have parked but this cuz of 195lbs of torque is way better and smaller engine turbo!! 1.6L in all so far so good. And fun to drive.. Like the whole concept of this car.. It work for me

In March of 2020 I bought a Galactic Grey Sport with DCT and also decided I could not part with my 07 CIvic SI sedan, too perfect to throw away. Love my Sport for all the reasons you mention, it's a nice quiet cruiser that will be a racer when you want it. Feels just like a poor mans Audi A4. I ended up continuing to drive my SI in the winter with snow tires. I put a 4in mouth cone filter on the factory intake and that wakes it up considerably, like on the K20 too.

The problem with the vehicle is that if you want the sunroof, it is part of a $3850 option package which then makes the vehicle overpriced. They did the same thing with the Sport sedan in 2017, but wised up for 2018 and included the sunroof.

They need to make a version with Brembo brakes, upgraded suspension, AWD, 350hp and some racing seats. Time to compete with the STi.

Drewism the N division of Hyundai is bringing in the more powerful cars. The I30N is a more powerful Elantra. We get the Veloster N at the end of the year in the US. In house breaks and seats to keep down the price, but apparently really good still. I saw an interview and they said there might be an awd version under way, but couldn't out right say it. Just search the I30N. You will find a lot of reviews if you get a chance.

Actually no, it's not a lease car. Dealers will factor in the low residual value which would increase your monthly payments. The best for this car, is get as big of a discount as possible, finance it or cash buy (again if you can afford it and they have cash incentives), and drive the car until the wheels fall out. I use the lease calculator on the ES before, the monthly payments were equal that to an Si of similar lease terms, because it was residuals were worth so much less.

skifree Lease calculators by the manufacturers aren't remotely accurate. If you look up incentives, dealer selling price residual and what the money factor is for the month, do the math yourself rather take what ever number you get from a calculator. Poor resale value doesn't necessarily mean poor predicted residuals. I mean, look at German luxury cars. They often see some of the worst resale values in the business, but they have some of the most aggressive leasing programs as well.

Not a direct competitor, but would you take this over the 1.5T Accord you just drove? The price in Canada is even with the Elantra Sport and a base/Sport Accord.

towncaptain7 on the east coast pf canada, currently 1500 off ES now, prob be able to knock off a few more with haggling * edit I have been eyeing up a white Accord LX , I want the blue accord sport but those 19 inch wheels would prob be dented with the roads currently

I enjoyed the Accord Sport more, but it's about 6k more here. Also, Hyundai has more aggressive discounts than Honda usually. If the two cars are the same price in Canada though, then I think the Accord gives you more car for the same money.

i have a problem with the term manual shifting in an Auto, should only be reserved for a car w/clutch. Paddle shifting is more appropriate

Subaru refuses to give me press vehicles so I haven't driven one yet. I'm not optimistic about the Impreza Sport though, they have way less horsepower than all the competition. If you want a compact car with all wheel drive though, it's still really the only option unfortunately.

I'd agree on the power, I do think they could have put it closer to the 200hp range considering the "Sport" title on this, though guess they like to throw that title around now "Cough" forester...... But I digress. On the other hand, if your ever out in the Minnesota Area, glad to get ya a sport to test.
