I know this is old but thanks for the tutorial. It was helpful.

As licensed mechanic, and having literally just done this exact job, the correct and whole procedure is: 0. Allow the vehicle to cool completely, if it had been running recently. 1. Put coolant catch pan under car, below the thermostat. 2. Disconnect negative battery terminal (10mm socket wrench). 3. Disconnect alternator 12v positive cable (12mm socket wrench) and bend it out of the way. 5. Push in the bottom/left metal tab on the plastic hose end that is attached to the thermostat housing and it will release the white pin on the top/right side of the plastic hose end. 6. Pull out that white plastic pin. 7. Push in both metal tabs on either side of plastic hose end and pull the hose toward the front of the car. It'll come off. 8. Be patient. 9. After the hose comes off the thermostat housing, bend it out of the way. 10. Remove 2x nuts retaining the housing. (12mm socket wrench w/3-4in extension). 11. Pull out thermostat housing and make sure the seal on it is intact. If it is not, it or pieces of it, may be stuck on the engine block, and it'll need removed to avoid a leak after you put it back together. 12. Chuck that POS thermostat housing in the scrap metal recycle bin. 13. Install the new part and put it all back together. 14. Top off coolant at radiator cap. 15. Run vehicle until it's reaches operating temp and check that it's not leaking anywhere. 16. Shut off vehicle and allow to cool. 17. Check coolant level at coolant reservoir and top off as necessary. 18. Put the cap back on the reservoir! 19. Double check it's not leaking anywhere. 19. Shut the dang hood already. ✌

I believe you have to bleed the system afterwards Perform the engine coolant filling mode on GDS to bleed air out of the cooling system. • As an electric thermostat (opening temperature 100°C) is applied in the engine, fill up the coolant and use the GDS to enter the coolant filling mode and let out the air. [Engine Coolant Filling Mode] • Guide Text on GDS: In an engine equipped with an electric thermostat (ECT), the current is applied to the electric thermostat while filling the coolant to help let out the air sufficiently.

Videos like this man....I have tried everything to get that plastic "quick connector" off and it doesn't budge. Ofcourse the only video I find and it doesn't show anything. What's the point? This always seems to be the case for me, videos show nice and easy explanation, everything goes their way, but I get the stubborn cars with the stubborn parts. And I can see the motion of the clip, it doesn't push away far enough and I can't stick anything in there.

you can always go to hyundais or any manufacturs repair procedure site. They typically have every detail repair you can think of.

I know you posted this 3 years ago. But for anyone that is currently having the same issue. There is a little tab on that metal piece- to the left of the plastic clip. Lift UP on that lightly. The sloped clip will then come toward you and out. Then grab both of those flat "button" like surfaces on the metal ring that was once holding that plastic clip. Press firmly on both and grip the plastic housing and pull toward you and twist back and forth all at once. I didn't even bother pulling the plastic part off the hose. Once it was free I just pull the spring clip from the lower end of the hose going to the radiator. Then reverse all that after you get your new thermostat assembly in. I just recorded a video on this. Haven't had means to upload it yet. Hope this makes sense.

I got over 100k on mine too. What made you feel the need to replace the thermostat? I'm having issues with my heat. It's not the heater core I flushed it out . Not sure if its thermostat or the temperature actuator on the side of the glove box. Please let me know what problems you were having before I buy it for no reason. Also the plastic piece I already just replace. From dealer 55 dollar hose all 1 piece. Mine snapped a week ago. Just changed that part.

@@DaKingof704yea i just experienced today my temp gauge fluctuating. I knew i needed a thermostat because the heat takes 30min to blow and at times will cool off to room temp. As im driving today, my dash is beeping at me, i see the temp gauge fluctuating so i pull over and sat there for 5min. i got out the car, had a puddle of coolant dripping from the hose. What happens is, when your thermo starts to go out, the sensor sends the incorrect engine temp reading to the computer. The computer than sends the wrong coolant amount (which explains the leak i had ) -and or- sends the coolant at the wrong times wich results in engine overheating.

If you came here trying to figure out how to get the clip off the thermostat. I will give you the answer sense this ignorant person who posted this useless video neglected to tell you or show you. You must press both sides at the same time and yank it off. Will need a second person are a good brace. 👍
