2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee Summit Review: Is This SUV Worth 2 Grand Cherokees?

The 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee Summit is packed to the gills and as a result it costs a whopping $65,000. I take a look at the top of the line Jeep Grand Cherokee (if you don't include the SRT and Trackhawk) and see whether it's worth your money.
This Summit model includes the Summit California Edition, the 5.7 liter HEMI V8 engine upgrade, 4X4, and a $5,000 interior upgrade.
Would you pay $65,000 for this SUV, which is more than TWO base Jeep Grand Cherokees?

I’ve owned other luxury brands, and this is by far the best I’ve driven. It’s a smooth, quiet ride with such beautiful interior features. I have the 2018 model. Love, love, love it!

I am on my 3rd Grand Cherokee, I've always been criticized for choosing what many consider a unreliable model but I sold my 1999 after 20 years and 460,000 km without any major failures. I went right back to the GC Summit and absolutely love it. You can keep your Range Rovers, Mercedes and Audi's, none of those will make 100,000 km without any failures, major failure are inherent in those brands. In Canada my Summit was $80,000 and worth every penny.

Yes and here is why: Those European competitors that you mentioned won't have nearly the equipment levels that this Summit has for the same money. You'd need to spend another $10 grand(at least) for a comparable vehicle.

We just purchased this exact vehicle for $47k with 18k miles. We transitioned from an Audi S6. Apples to oranges comparison between the two vehicles but we absolutely love our Jeep so far. The technology, ride quality, features and look of this vehicle is well worth the money we paid. But we couldn’t justify the $60k the dealer was wanting for a 2018.

there's also the sterling and high altitude. Also, on the summit with the V8 as you have here, you get Quardra Drive 2, not Quadra Trac 2, so it is the same exact system in the Trailhawk.

I just traded my 2011 Overland for one today. I love it can't wait for the sun to rise and look at it, and drive it. It looks like all the kinks from the WK1 versions have been worked out. The leather dash peeling up, the then used fake wood paneling falling off, and the seal on the windshield issue, motor mounts going bad because the 6 speed torque on the HEMI versions. I got the Dark Sienna Brown / Black Interior though. There's no way I wouldn't have destroyed the white seats and the Navy in my WK1 would feel like lava in the summer, so fingers crossed. My buddy just traded his Trackhawk in for a AMG GTS edition 1 and took a huge hit (65k). Maybe I'll take a road trip to drive his and kill 2 birds with one stone. Thanks for the upload...

I currently own a '17 Summit and the quality is superior to any other American brand in my opinion. To where it feels like you're in outer space floating on a pillow with the sound deadening, air ride suspension and a high quality 19 speaker Harmon Kardon sound system. Best vehicle I have ever been in as far as the ride goes.

Just got a 2018 Grand Cherokee with Overland High Altitude. Every feature mentioned in Sterling except it has V6. Plenty of power, I prefer Black leather interior. Paid 48k after incentive list 51k

Tim Chaffin Was it 48K before tax. They were showing them discounted 7-8k but basically they just added all the rebates possible. I qualified for 3k rebate only and paid 49k before tax for the 18 high altitude not sure if I overpaid a few grand for the vehicle.

I have the 2017, v6. Never a problem. Now have all weather tires. I have gone far off-road to fly fish. I looked at range rovers, but thought the better. With the money I saved, I was able to later add a feels model 3!

The Summit is a fantastic Jeep Grand Cherokee for the money. It combines utility and luxury all into one beautiful package. A few things to note first: - The 4x4 system in the summit is NOT the Quadra-Trak II system as mentioned in this video. It actually uses the Quadra-Drive II which gives you limited slip differentials both in the front and rear. - The "California Package" is actually called the Platinum package. It color matches the lower parts of the bumpers and swaps chrome for a brushed satin metallic look. - The Quadra-lift air suspension is very good, however be ready for some serious body roll and "sloppy" handling. The front end is not tight by any means, and for an enthusiastic driver can be an annoyance. I love to hate this air suspension in my Summit. If you, like me, live in a hilly area the suspension softness makes the Jeep feel very top heavy and leans into the corners rather than remaining flat. Braking will nose dive the front end, and speed bumps make the front rebound several times before it settles. FYI. (I plan on replacing the air system once warranty is over with a coil conversion kit. - I dislike it that much.) On a positive note, its a wonderful Jeep. The white interior is a heavy maintenance interior. I almost weekly have to take a damp cloth to the seats and clean them in order to preserve the white color. - Do not use leather conditioner lotions. These seats were sealed from the factory with a coating that doesn't let the conditioner soak in, so they look blotchy. You & your passengers will be wearing the lotion every time you get in/out from it.

LSD is only in rear. Front is open. Quadra drive stopped using front LSD a while ago. They say this was done to improve on road dynamics. BLD works well enough though.

2 things all the reviewers I have seen fail to mention:1.The HEMI is happy on regular gas. Some of the others brag About better gas mileage but when you factor in the added cost premium fuel your better gas mileage actually actually costs more to run. Also wait till you take your similarly priced German in for the 30k mile service or just an oil change or are late for an oil change and the company shuts down your ride. I can afford to buy one of those great handling suvs but I can't afford to own one.

Just got into a 2019 Lariat E with 18 “ wheels and the larger screen navigation screen. Paid just over 30K before license and tax. It does everything I need it to and it works for me. You can have your leather and sunroof.

Traded a 2014 Grand Overland diesel for the 2018 Summit Hemi, I drive mostly highway and love it, don't have the top end leather or Cali package, listed for 60K as new, yr end like $8k discount did it for me. Main reason I like the Grands, my 4th, is the garage fit!, I don't need longer length for 3rd seat so the Jeep fits my garage with room to open the tailgate and walk around the front with garage closed.

I have a 2011 with 67,800 miles. It has never needed any repairs. However, I also do all of the factory recommended maintenance and upgraded the recommended pennzoil synthetic oil blend to Mobil1 full synthetic, despite it not being approved for use. It made the engine noticeably quieter with smoother revs and improved my gas mileage slightly.

No your summit with all the options is not worth 2 of my jeeps. I'm well pleased with a 6 cylinder heated steering wheel and seat jeep with most of the options you mentioned in Michigan weather. The best arguments is my $340 lease payment for my 2020 limited Jeep Grand Cherokee for 30 months. 😊

Range rover looks nice but lots of headache. there repairs are super expensive and parts take ah long time. i am on my 2nd summit and i love .I just got a 2020 summit with the full laugana package with grey seats and 5.7 Hemi .i upgrade the exhaust system from the Trackhaulk with duol tips and it sounds great with more horse power . I love it.
