I had a 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee. I had it for over 8 yrs; I just sold it a week ago. It had over 83,000 on it and it never gave me any trouble. The only thing I ever had to do was take it in for a few recalls, change the oil and tires and fill it up. It was a GREAT car. So great that I sold it to my parents and bought a 2022 Grand Cherokee

I had a similar experience with my 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee. Also had about 80k and traded mine in for a 2021. I did have one issue with mine though. The fuel door broke. Fixed it myself in less than an hour for $150 USD.

@@marcus-ib9gi I had a Ford Mustang and it started going to the shop for repairs at 17,000. It went in every 6 months, like clockwork, for a repair. Owned a GMC truck, it went in for a new transmission at 44,000 miles. So 80,000 may not sound like much milage to some people, but I can assure you some cars/trucks don't make it to 20,000 before needing repairs. I have friends who have owned VWs and other brands that started needing repairs long before it was paid off. So to drive one 80,000 miles, and do nothing but change the oil makes it a damn good vehicle in my opinion.

I own a 2014 jeep Grand Cherokee since 5,000 miles. Bought it in 2015, it's got 164,000 miles now. Best vehicle ever, I've loved every minute of owning it. Never had problems on road or off in deep mud and snow! 3.6 liter Pentastar 8-speed transmission have been the best! I can do a complete 180 U turn pulling my 17ft bass boat on a dime in it too! Best turning radius out of any vehicle hands down.

170,000 miles and counting on my 2012 Grand Cherokee Laredo. It's been very reliable and still a great daily driver along with being excellent off road. The key is to make sure the preventative maintenance is done and they'll last.

@@nathanlovell4399 I'm typically getting around 19mpg combined with mixed driving with the V6. With highway driving, I'll typically hit around 22-24mpg and that's on a Laredo that has Quadra-Trac I 4WD.

@@1246gj I'm up to 184,000 miles on my 2012 now. Still running well, even with 2 road trips in 2023. I did some upgrades such as the shocks to Bilstein 4600s and changing most lighting to LEDs. I do get it sprayed with Krown every year to keep rust away being in the northeast. Only things to ever go wrong were a coolant thermostat, EVAP module, and a blend door gear. All of those things were cheap to fix.

One of the safest SUV in the market... We had an accident last week. Many turns in a wet road, we hit 2 walls in the Turnpike expressway, side to side slide... and the vehicle just did amazingly and protected the passengers. Going for another one! There are some years with issues but ours was a 2020 Summit and it was amazing!

My friends lil brother was in an accident in theirs with a full car and someone passed away in the other car they were in an accident with, but they too, were all safe. I have had 6 Grand Cherokee's from a 1996 to now a 2017 and have had wonderful experiences. They have all made it to at least 140,000 miles before I have traded them off and they could all have gotten me farther if I chose to keep them. Do your preventive maintenance and they will be fine.

They got a really bad wrap in Australia as Jeep dealers left quite a few people out in the cold with issues. One of the disgruntled customers actually made a song "I made a mistake and bought a jeep" which became somewhat famous here and even made it onto the radio. Parts are also particularly expensive here vs the US. So jeep as a company really stuffed their reputation in Australia and it will take a long time to shake that off, even if the cars were perfect.

Similar story here. I've had 4 Grand Cherokees from 1997 to now a 2019. They have all been great vehicles. The first one is still rolling strong and has saved me on several occasions. It's staying until the wheels fall off. The 2019, an Overland, is the best one yet. Yep, maintain them and they will serve you well.

I'm driving an 80th GC right now. In the back I saw popsicle sticks and what not so I can tell the guy had kids. Hopefully that means he didn't abuse it too much. I love it so far. Yeah I wish I hadn't rushed into the trade because I feel like I could've gotten a 2021 summit or something instead for the same price and had quadra lift. But getting the anniversary edition ensured at the least quadra Trac 2, hopefully it has quadradrive 2, not sure but pretty sure it's quadratrac 2 even though quadradrive is supposed to come standard in the limited and up. And it was fully loaded. Has everything except massagers and quadralift. I really hope I didn't get a lemon, I haven't had it long enough to trust it. I had to get out of that rav4 though, never buy a toyota.... They're not the same toyota as a decade ago. Tbh 3 vertebrae in my back are still in a lot of pain from the misaligned lumbar support, it was literally a rectangle that would jut out halfway up my back, and when I put it away it left an indent in the seat where my spine would sink into. Do not buy a toyota, whatever you do. Slowest, most barebones, uncomfortable p.o.s. vehicles.

I've had 4 and they are great. Agreed that you spend time to chose a nurtured one, but bang for your bucks and drivability, you won't find better. The key with owning a Jeep is having a mechanic who knows how to fix them.

@@La_Momia-h8e Enjoy it wish you all the best Hopefully you won't have the problems I had with it a brand new one first owner 2019 Limited imagine while your at a complete stop the car may or may not go while your foot is on the brakes very very dangerous plus all the glitches and the bubbles on the navigation screen it's like a ghost is in control and you can be driving and the volume will go all the way up turn on the heated seats in the summer or do whatever it wants to do on its own and when I go for service at Jeep they told me they can't help me and all this is happening with 7,000 miles on the car which I take really really good care of my car. We have a 2017 limited 4X4 75 anniversary edition. Still love it. We got it used with only51k miles and we just put an additional 70+ k miles in just 2 1/2 years with hardly any issues. This is our 1st Grand Cherokee and still have a wonderful experience with it.

I just broke in to the 100K with my 2013 Grand Cherokee Trailhawk - Treat it right and it's a dream machine! I rotate my tires change oil/filters /wash and wax. 4th set of tires (originals were the silent armor 18's by GoodYear) then just today I changed my 3 set of GY Duratrac 18's - .I take it in snow and lots of dirt roads and old rocky roads are fun when Tires are new! Quadtrac 2 and hill descent is very helpful. Keep it waxed and take care and it's a Dream Machine! +++++ Any stories on your TrailHawk Id like to hear it! ++++++

My wife and I have a 2014 Summit with 165k miles (mine) and a 2017 Summit with 25k miles (my wife's). We bought them both used. Mine had 40k and my wife's had 14k when we purchased them. They are both the V8 360hp 5.7 hemi with 16 spark plugs (the best engine choice). They are very powerful, handle well (Air Suspension), good off-road, great in snow and unstressed at highway speeds (running at about 2k RPM at 80mph). They have both been fantastic vehicles (no repairs on my wife's 2017, at 25k, and few repairs on my 2014, at 165k). In fact, except for a couple sports cars and one 1931 Ford Model A, they have been the best, most reliable, and the favorite vehicles we have each ever owned. And this is why we have two of them.

yea I have 138k on my 2014 srt love it so much, no issues at all except small stuff like reverse light and o2 sensor an animal chewed through and I beat on that 6.4l all the time even towed a 17ft enclosed trailer from Cali to Virginia no issues.

My 2009 Grand Cherokee has almost 200k miles on it and is still going strong. My friend has over 200k on her 2009 Grand Cherokee and it's still going strong. My brother's 2008 Grand Cherokee has about 160k miles on his and it still runs great.

I really love my 2020 Jeep Grand Cherokee . I bought it used with 40,000 kms on it and it currently has just under 70,000 kms on it . 1 safety recall issue resolved at the dealer and no problems besides that . I'm happy i bought one

I've got a 2014 Overland with the diesel in it, had it for a year with 250km on it. Bought it off a guy that towed most of its life and has been regularly serviced. No issues as of yet. Main thing with the diesels seems to be regular oil changes, quality oil and filers and quality fuels. Plus plenty of hot running for the DPF.

I have a 2016 Limited with 100k miles on it, had since new. No issues over the 7 years. Finally doing 1st change of rotors and pads this week, and there was still plenty of meat on the pads. Great vehicles. Just do regular maintenance and you'll be fine.

I own a 2017 Grand Cherokee Trailhawk. Got a great deal on it used right before prices skyrocketed in 2021, with 41k miles on it. I've road-tripped from the Midwest to New York State and back multiple times, off-reading it in the Catskills and Adirondacks. While it is my daily driver back home in Wisconsin, I also off-road often in the northwoods, and have taken it into the Rockies, driving it all over Colorado and New Mexico, and across the plains. The only thing I've had to do is a 90k+ tune-up (spark plugs, intake flush, and breaks) and replace a solenoid. No major problems.

3.6L V6 or hemi? I just bought a 2011 v6 with 110k miles, love it so far. Luckily the original owner was the only other owner, 50+ service records, all recalls. Despite being the worst year for electrical, he took care of it and i can only hope to get 225 out of it. Dropped the trans pan, fixed a door lock. Im happy with it. Plastic is annoying, but im happy

Bought 2016 in 2018 w/ 5.7 limited and it’s been awesome. I’m at 85k. Only had to change a water pump at 60k and some tires/plugs. Brakes are still in great shape. It tows our 25ft boat well. Definitely recommend. I will buying the newer generation once they’re 2-3 years old.

In 2016 I bought a facelift 2015 Grand Cherokee Limited with the 3.6 liter 6 cylinder. It had 22,000 miles at this time. I still have it, put another 80,000 miles on it (it has as of today 102,465 miles). I take it regularly off road, at least 4-5 times a week. I drive it daily to work and back. This car as of today had NOT one single failure, not a mechanical nor an electrical one. Also it has to work so hard off-road, still nothing rattles or makes any noise in the interior. Every day I press the engine start button - and it joes goes. No warning light ever. It is the most reliable car I have ever owned. The single only complaint I have is the fuel consumption. I average between 16.9 and 17.9 since I purchased it. Only when I drive it with constant highway speed of 65 mph I can average around 20mpg. But one should not forget that this is a very heavy car with an empty curb weight of around 5,000 lbs.

The Pentastar V6 is one of the most reliable long lasting motors on the market. It was redesigned in 2011 and some small changes were made in 2012 to fix some known issues in the 2011 motor. 24MPG highway with AWD, for an SUV, is simply amazing. Also having a 4LO option standard with AWD is very cool (not many other similar vehicles have this feature (Lexus GX, Toyota 4R). Since 2012 the V6 is largely unchanged and very reliable. The air suspension commonly needs to be repaired but from my research it is a pretty reliable air suspension system compared to air suspensions on other vehicles. I would definitely obtain an extended warranty if I were to buy a used SRT and replacement parts are very expensive on the SRT (tires, brake rotors and pads, etc.). A used 2015+ Limited and Laredo are good models to evaluate as a used car to buy. Btw, this cars was originally heavily redesigned by Daimler (Mercedes Benz) when they for a short while owned Jeep. I read that the MB "ML" SUV heavily influenced the chasis and suspesion of the Jeep GC. Which is believed to be why GC's drive and handle so well. I've had a couple friends own GCs and they loved them. They also have positive owner reviews on car review websites.

My mechanic said the 3.6 Pentastar is hit or miss (and mostly miss). They have a tendency to start having a "knock" when they get up around 100k miles. They also have oil leak issues.

LOTS can go wrong on these, but that's to be said for most all modern vehicles nowadays. Last February I bought a 2014 Summit 5.7L with 86L miles on the clock and absolutely love it. I got lucky, as it was a 1 owner it's whole life, and presumably garaged as it's from Alberta and not a spec of rust on it, even the front of the hood is perfectly fine. Only flaw is the center of the wheels are peeling (like they all seem to do), but I plan to have them powdercoated, so good 'nuff.

I work in the car business and have dealt with a lot of grand cherokees. If you have the ability to pull the Carfax on any given grand cherokee, you'll notice a very high percentage of owners don't do any kind of consistent maintenance. When available to see on a Carfax report, a huge majority of Grand Cherokees go 15k-20k miles without the owner getting an oil change. And then they wonder why the thing breaks down...

Carfax is bullshit. Wife totaled our 94 Eclipse GSX AWD... nothing in carfax report. It cost 11 GRAND to repair it. My 2011 WK2 has DUPLICATE entries for EVERY entry and they apparently replaced light bulbs every month from 2011 until I bought it in 2019.

I have had a 2014 since new. 176k . Egr seals went , oil cooler , water pump, condenser, intake gasket, and 4x4 control module . Certainly those are disappointing, but everything else is Rock solid . Beautiful vehicle to drive and off-road. Still love it !

In the United States the 3.6 pentastar engine is reliable engine with many examples over 250k miles. From 2011-2013 they had cylinder head issues that were fixed under warranty. The ZF 8 speed transmission is one of the worlds best transmissions. Quite simply, any Jeep with this powertrain combination will provide many years of reliability. Chrysler’s problem is that they allow subprime buyers to finance their vehicles. Subprime buyers struggle to make their payments therefore maintenance is almost always neglected. No vehicle will last if neglected.

I just bought another Jeep the GCL 2011 with the flex fuel penstar 3.6 engine that has almost 180,000 miles on it and this morning the check engine light came on but I can’t find a message or reason for it. The blower for air and heat keeps shutting off and on randomly.

I have a 2015 grand cherokee overland high altitude edition. Absolutely love it! Had it for about 4 years now. No major issues, brakepads,oil changes and rotors have been changed that's about it. Has 145k km on it. Have a "service air suspension immediately" sensor that pops up when it's really cold but called the dealer and they said it's normal for that to pop up when it's cold!

I bought a 2015 JGC Limited with the options pack and 80000km, honestly never missed a beat. Sold it with double the kms for about the same price I paid for it. Put an idrive in the diesel and it’ll liven it up. Just make sure you do a check on the service history before you buy. Everyone that got it the Jeep commented how good it was, great car!

I recently bought my used car and it wasn't even one you reviewed (2018 Mitsubishi Outlander 2.2L DID, hopefully there's a ReDriven episode one day) but thanks to all of the "stuff to watch out for" you lot bang on about I managed to avoid the balance shaft issues that seemingly plague previous iterations of the diesel engine (fixed as of March 2018), made sure it was low km, well cared for, had a solid service history and so on so forth. Couldn't be happier with my albeit a bit boring but practical jack of all trades vehicle (and the price I got it for). The thing is, I am still watching absolutely everything this channel puts out even after purchase, I haven't really done that for the other "car KZbinrs".. The quality of this channel is absolutely outstanding, Jim clearly knows his cars and Adam clearly knows user experience, what a pair you two make. Keep up the good work legends!

In California I owned from new a 2017 JGC Overland with the 5.7L petrol V8, with all the Trailhawk-style options. I added a bar & Warn winch, BFG KO2 ATs, and some off-road Baja Designs racer pro spot/floods but otherwise made no modifications. After 44,000 miles and some decent off-road use, it remained in perfect condition and had zero faults from new. That said, the factory warranty expired at 36,000 miles and thereafter I was always aware that a big repair bill could be heading my way one day... But it really was an excellent all-rounder, being good on long freeway trips, adequate around town, and more than adequate off-road on mild and moderate trails. For extreme trails, a slight lift to increase total height provided by the air suspension, and a snorkel, would have been required.

Purchased my 75th anniversary nearly 3years ago. Petrol is the way to go excellent ride, confortable and smooth as. I love the extra features on this edition remote start, heat steering wheel and auto tailgate. Paid $34k. Hang on does the Prado or land cruiser have these features? Nah, so there you go haters gonna be haters. You get what you paid for. Jeep can’t be compared to Toyota.

My 2015 JGC Altitude edition has been a great car for 8 years and 100k miles. I bought it new. Burns no oil and oil never seems too dark and smells clean, so seems like the engine is running great. Only replaced tires once and still got probably about 30k miles to go on them. Original battery and brakes still are fine according to the mechanic that just checked them. I'm dropping about $3k on maintenance to get all coolants, transmission, steering, brake fluids (don't let those transfer case or front and rear diff fluids go too long!), coils, spark plugs changed out and the upgraded aluminum oil filter housing. Part of that $3k is to replace recently started leaking motor mounts and rear strut leaking. Fingers crossed for another 100k after that. I did have a condenser go out (as mentioned in the video) but it was replaced under warranty. So maybe not perfect but pretty good.

I bought my 2014 Jeep grand Cherokee diesel with optional outback pack and air suspension for a bargain $57,000 drive away. After test driving a Toyota Prado with a pathetic diesel, the jeep was on another level ,a no brainer for me, it's travelled 210,000 kms . It's never missed a beat. I must admit jeep service was very poor, I've religiously serviced the car myself for the last 5 years. Averaging around $150 to $200 every 6 months. The most reliable car I've ever owned. Love it

Our story is similar, bought a JGC Laredo Diesel in late 2015 for 53K. We required a 3.5T tow capacity and the Prado was underpowered (had a 2017 Prado supplied for work until late 2021, nice car but sluggish and limited towing ability). I had no intention of buying a Jeep, was actually keen on the then new Ford Everest as I was driving a Ford Ranger at the time for work in 2015. Once I drove the Jeep I struggled to convince myself why I wouldn't buy it - powerful and efficient V6 Diesel, ZF 8 speed auto, handles and stops well. Have done 7 years in it now as wife's daily and tow rig for caravan and boat. The small amount I had to do with Jeep dealerships was underwhelming and that is being polite. Have a great local mechanic who undertakes all the bigger services and I do the smaller ones (oil and filters) myself, all done on time. It is still great to drive (130,000km's) and miles in front of the 2022 MU-X I am now supplied by work which in comparison is like driving a Massey Ferguson tractor with a noisy and slow diesel. Plan in is to keep the Jeep for another couple of years before getting a 300 series LandCruiser when Toyota release a hybrid version around 2024/25. The new 2022 JGC is off the cards now due to reduced tow capacity and GCM and currently only offering the pre-historic pentastar V6 petrol. The 4XE hybrid could be an interesting motor when it arrives but without tow capacity Jeep now has nothing to offer me.

Good review and points addressed. I’ve owned my 2018 petrol version since new and have not had one issue. My best bit of advise is do you research like I did, and choose which engine variant suits you. The diesel (VM) is good when it’s running but is very unreliable in my opinion, probably why it’s being discontinued. Common problems are DPF issues and main bearing failures (even in later models). I did most of my research from America, where you can get a better idea of what the car is actually like. What I have found is that some Jeep dealers here in Australia are what give the car a bad name, and have ruined their reputation. They are no less reliable than any other brands but are good value for money in comparison. I’d buy another one tomorrow as it’s the best car I’ve ever owned.

I have since lifted my 2005 WK with a 2" Old Man Emu lift and a few other things, works awesome off-road. I have a few videos. I do wish the current V6 had more power under the hood.

Got my 2nd one now. Both the V6 EcoDiesel models. One a 2016 Overland , till 260k km not a single issue. The transmission went out and 1800$ later back on the road. Now i got a 2020 (made in 2019) Summit. 73k km in it currently, hasn’t given me an issue yet.

I traded a 2015 grand cherokee limited with 28k on it for the trailhawk so I only financed 20k after all was said and done. I've also always had beaters so I don't have to hammer my new vehicles back and forth to work. I am a heavy equipment mechanic by trade too so any maintenance needed on my daily driver is done by me...that's a huge plus as well.

My sister had a 2017 Grand Cherokee Limited and transmission went out before she even hit 60k miles. My dad actually had a 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee that was passed down to my other sister that lasted 190k miles Before it died. But the transmission was always clunky on that one as well. The older 4.0 in-line 6 Jeeps were pretty awesome vehicles.

Funnily enough Prados and Grand Cherokees are the two cars I’ve driven the most. 150,000kms in Prado and 90,000kms Grand Cherokee Prados are more reliable and have cheaper and more accessible parts, but are slower, handle worse, have worse fuel consumption, no features and are expensive to buy.

Nice car, reliable but majorly underpowered for moving anything but its own weight and collapsed in the rear end once towing anything over 1T. Can't disagree with value retention of a Toyota though. Our personnel 2015 JGC is more refined with a powerful and fuel efficient V6 diesel and ZF 8 speed - 130,000km's so far. I am actually a Toyota fan boy (have a 45 series Troopy and 60 series Wagon) but couldn't afford the 200 series at the time. Jeep was 53k drive away and we needed 3.5T towing (van is 2.8T but leaves breathing room) and it had a GCM in 2015 of 6449kgs. Will replace in 2024/25 with a 300 series Cruiser when they release the Hybrid

I have a 2015 Grand Cherokee Summit Hemi 5.7L Platinum. I have 174k miles on this beast and only recently replaced the Transmission with a unit with only 32k miles on it. The original trans had a flutter from first to 2nd, but otherwise operated fine... I just didn't want any surprises. I had to do some suspension repairs (Control arm) Sway bar etc. but otherwise it has been routine maintenance (Fluid flushes, oil change, brakes and tires). I did recently hit a turkey vulture on my way to a Doctor Appoint which bent the aluminum hood and cracked the front grill. I was able to snag an SRT hood and bought an aftermarket grill kit and was back on the road in 3 days. I love my jeep, have I thought about trading it, yes.... but every time I drive it I love it, I even have a 2023 Charger RT Last call that spends more time parked than it does being used. I don't know if I would buy another when my current one opts for retirement as I hear the horror stories and am afraid I may buy a bad one, I don't like the new 2023 style so I would only go for a WK2 version, Overland or higher with 5.7L at a minimum. I am not the original owner of my jeep, I am owner #2 but the 1st owner took very good care of it and I think this is why it has been a great vehicle. FYI, I am in the USA.

Got my unicorn - the earlier WH / WK model from 2008. I've had it for a few years now, with the only issues being a broken key (buttons on the transponder wore out) and a broken clock spring for the drivers airbag. Outside of that, it's just been basic maintenance done at the usual intervals and so far it has 223,000 kms on it.

The common theme here in the comments is that you need to tend to these WK2 Grand Cherokees while you own them. This is my third Grand Cherokee - I bought a used 2012 Overland with Hemi V8 (for towing and acceleration)... 6 years later it has 113k miles and it's been offroading in some pretty challenging conditions... I've crossed the US multiple times and have experienced some mechanical challenges (engine mounts, failed air shock (expensive)... etc... but I'm still happy with this vehicle and plan on keeping it for another few years... Thanks to lots of Utube videos there are lots of films to watch that allow you to fix many things on your own without the expensive Jeep dealer games... One reason I like this earlier model - the rear tailgate also has the rear lift glass feature - so when you have the back full of stuff you can open the glass hatch and reach in to get things without stuff spilling out... Armorall or 303 all the rubber seals around the doors, windows, hatch and sunroof at least once a year and you won't have leak problems .... A stitch in time saves nine is gospel with these! 2016 Grand Cherokee Laredo e, bought new about $29k US all in, 60k miles now, 0 problems, quiet and stable at 80+mph getting 26+mpg. At lower speeds capable of over 32mpg. Very maneuverable, small turning circle and easy to park for its size (probably due to electric steering). Very low maintenance costs. I generally wouldn't buy a Jeep product, but this chassis was developed jointly with Mercedes, and it is terrific.

Had a 2011 overland and the V8 5.7 went through 3 water pumps and was in the shop constantly. Leaking case. Broken motor mounts. Broken manifold bolts. All within the 20k miles I had it for. Was in the shop constantly and I babied the thing. Stay away from the 5.7s if it hasn’t given you a problem yet. Run away. Upgraded to a 2016 V6 with the 8 speed and if I have issues I will never buy a jeep again. I have high hopes because the attention to detail is phenomenal on these vehicles. One last go and I’m hoping for good luck this time around. I really want to believe in these vehicles the style of them is crazy good compared to others on the road.

As for the way it drove I didn’t find it to wallow with vague steering. In fact the opposite for what it was. I just loved that car and without doubt it was the best car I have ever owned. Perhaps we were just lucky. We traded up to a Y62 Patrol which is great but I still miss the JGC.

We purchased a new Grand Cherokee Overland in late 2014. Absolutely the best car I have ever owned and driven. I can set up the driver's seat so I can drive 1000 kms a day no problems or back pain. In most other cars I would get a sore back and numb backside. It is pleasure to drive out in the country-side. Nothing has ever gone wrong and we did have a recall. That was to lock the car in Park if the driver's door was not closed. Not sure if that recall was safety, functional or operational. I mainly use the Jeep for towing a 6.5 metre boat and even going up-hill it goes as if I was towing nothing. I just get the car serviced as required that's all.

I have a '17 Overland, 60k miles, with Adjustable Quadra-lift air suspension and the Quadra-Trac II 4WD. I do hardcore off road activities in this thing and the only issues I've had is the A/C Evaporator failed, covered under an extended warranty and the transfer case failed and it was covered under the drive train warranty. Not a squeak or rattle in the dash or door to my surprise.

I purchased a new 2013 Grand Cherokee 10 years ago and it has been a great car. It runs great and has never had any expensive repairs. I get 19 mpg in city and 22-23 mpg on freeway with its 3.6 liter Pentastar engine - which is a great engine. The car is smooth, quiet and well made. I have 90,000 miles on it - most of them in city/ suburban driving. It gets routine maintenance and I change the oil myself. I use Mobil 1 fully synthetically oil rated for 10,000 miles or 12 months with same brand filter and change the oil once a year. I will probably drive it another 10 years. Great SUV

Once they get above 100,000-120,000kms reliability & durability declines quite rapidly. Parts can be expensive. As a mechanic I see many horror stories which are fairly commonly with most cars. That is maintenance, maintenance, maintenance!! Guys I’m going to sound like a broken record. Almost all of the issues with the mechanical bits are down to lack of maintenance. If you skip services you will suffer. If you buy any used car always budget at least 15% of the purchase price per year on maintenance as a minimum. I am so sick of people coming into my shop with problems up the wazo because they couldn’t be bothered with some sensible maintenance. You buy a car you have to actually maintain it.

@@mechtechau no massive hassles so far but again it is hit & miss. Again make sure it has had the proper maintenance done. The only issues I have seen have been in cars that have been abused. I.e lots of hard driving & aggressive shifting which can lead to premature wear.

The Jeep could be decent but its still a big risk if it does all go wrong. Jeep customer service is absolutely 🤬. I have trouble getting parts for some customers because Jeep are just idiots.

My dad bought a brand new one when the WK2 first came out and now it has almost 200k kms on it… Reliability wise it’s no better or worse than many European cars, most of the expensive repair cost came down to ridiculous stealership prices (like over a grand for replacing a busted coolant hose and $1.5k for alternator)… my mums BMW had more nagging issues than the Jeep. It’s no old school Japanese reliability, the beater Mitsubishi 380 I bought for $3.5k has yet to suffer any major faulty besides needing to regass the AC. But they don’t seem as bad as what the internet makes it out to be… at least in our case.

Have a 2011 that's got over 200k on it. I've owned it since ~78k. One transmission shift solonoid (~$600), 2 water pumps (faulty part from Rock Auto) (~$100 each time), and regular oil changes. Is all its needed. It's never left me stranded or stuck.

Had my 2014 overland diesel for 5 years and loving it. Now up to 210k and no issues. Well except for a split wiper washer bottle that was plastic welded for a few dollars. Genuine dealers suck but Jeep specialist workshops are plenty and they are cheaper and passionate. Car is economical, comfortable, spacious quiet, tows amazing and has everything I could ask for. Love the radar cruise on this model and heated and cooled seats are well suited for Adelaide's seasons. My next car will be the newer model or back to a land rover discovery.

My 3.6 Pentastar has been running great. 138,400 + miles on it. I bought it with @ 72K I believe. In the last 10 months, I've taking a job where I commuted 100 miles a week to a commute of 200 miles a week. It's so comfortable, rides so smoothly on the highway and when I need 'er power, it's there. I've even towed my '92 Jeep Wrangler YJ off-roading behind 'er a few times... YES!!! The A-pillar blind spots are a pain in the ass, but if you know about it, you adapt to it look and make sure no one is there... I did a reset of my mpg avg right when I got on the highway the other day...set my cruise control for interstate driving @ 70mph, I got...27.4MPH!!! Oh... And I de-badged mine... ALL of it...looks sick...

In my opinion they are the best value for money SUVs you can buy, the size is perfect, technology is sufficient and they have good off-road capabilities. Just make sure that it’s under warrantee when you buy a used one, you may face minor issues such as with the suspension shock-observer and engine mounting. I’m not surprised by the comments about wear and tear in the interior. They hold up stupidly well. I recently wandered past a couple WKs (or whatever the GC before this one is) with 350,000kms on the clock and the interior looked better than most 50k cars. I was absolutely shocked. Made me look at a few more and they were literally ALL like that. The exteriors were also absolutely superb. Looked at a couple of Prados that were newer and they looked like a heap of shit by comparison. They don’t have flashy or sexy build and they use some shonky electrics and stuff. But boy do their interiors (and exteriors) hold up well.

I have a 2012 Overland - still loving it - no serious issue - tows a 3t Caravan Easily. Good economy, comfortable - more than enough creature comforts. Pity they don’t do the diesel any more 😎

I have a 2014 Grand Cherokee Lerado petrol with 82,000km on it. It's been reliable and great for an active lifestyle. I go rock climbing so I go bush with it and its never missed a beat. Plenty of space for camping gear. Good in the city as well, comfortable and smooth. Plenty of power, uses about 12 litres / 100km

I thought the same. The 3.6 has been around forever, you'd expect it to be half alright.

I was actually rather disappointed by this. Usually he will at least mention the other engine options. Also they don’t mention at all what is fitted to this car, one can only guess based on the fuel consumption factory figure this is a 3.0 diesel.

I could list all the problems with my 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland, but I don’t think there’s enough room to list them all. The most egregious example is the peeling leather on the dash, which they told me they would replace 3 years ago and now the claim amnesia.

My mom has a 2014 V6 Grand cherokee with 285k. It runs perfectly and has no problems. Dealer serviced only.
