I drove the XD (cummins) the other day. Very impressed overall. I will definitely drive the 1/2ton before I throw away 50 large on an f-150. Really bummed Toyota didn't update the Tundra for '17. :(

Am I the only one that find the hardcore brand worshipers annoying?I want them ALL to succeed enough to keep building. Now if I was buying I ain't sure which I would buy. Probably whichever one that gave me the best deal on one that would do what I wanted it to. Now if I won it or somebody else was buying I'd be willing to drive any of these trucks.

Hey there...,you are absolutely right-no doubt.Why cant many not accept that others drive different trucks - or use different rifles - drink different coffee............these "hardcore brand worshipers" (by the way....great name...) are really anoying. Lately my neighbour called me out to show me his new Fiat(I hate Fiat...) But why would I spoil his fun? So I said : wow....great colour - and look at it-really easy access - and so forth.... Had he asked me for advise before buying this italian car...of course I would have told him about the bad things with Fiat.......but I would never do this when somebody already bought stuff that I dont like.... Take care.... Roger

Exactly, I first break them down by Safety, American Content, and features. Then I get into the subjective aesthetics, driving feel, and overall comfort and ergonomics, finally the winner is whoever can get me the best deal.

I got a 2017 in July. Traded my platinum trundra for it. Both crew max cabs. There are things i love more than the tundra and things i miss about the tundra. I'll say this, it handles better in the snow than the tundra or any other half ton I've driven. I was shocked at how it handled off road snow so well.

Seems to me that this truck is a well thought-through vehicle.....nice little details-for the ones who really use this truck for work.... And to be honest....Nissan proved to be a reliable brand in the field of pick-up trucks...................not saying that there are also others too which earned a good reputation........ I for one wouldnt know.......the Tundra for sure also has what it takes to stand the daily fight of hard labour..... Anyhow - nice presentation - thank you for posting.

Hopefully they put that lockable under-rear seat compartment and heated rear seats in the new frontier too (if they ever update it). Can't get heated rear seats in the tacoma or ridgeline so it would be a good feature to have.

William Stewart Why would I crawl under my rear seat while I'm driving? Also, my truck is well used when I'm using it, but it gets cleared out at the end of the day when I'm done working. Really, I'm absolutely meticulous with it. I use it for it's intended for, but I never leave it a mess, even when I don't have other people in it.

Nissan can never seem to hit the same numbers that "the big 3" can. That being said, it's not always about numbers and I think the 9,300 pound towing is more than enough for most 1/2 ton owners. Looks like it might be interesting depending on price and mpg.

@victorcreed8856
@victorcreed8856 8 жыл бұрын
That's because the big 3 have been in the game forever and have established loyal followings. Nissan and Toyota are new to the full size game, and it's a tough market to crack into. But sales numbers don't equal quality. Ford could build a truck out of cardboard and duct tape, and Ford guys will still buy them in heaps.

I don't know, I love TFL.... but this review wasn't the best. If you don't want to feature the truck, then why bother with it at all? Read this a few times before you get upset, then actually consider what I'm saying. This Titan isn't getting a fair shake, but it will from Alex on Autos, his reviews are "miles" ahead of these. Thank God for Andre, he does a great job, very insightful and never stops asking relevant questions, and actually seems happy to be there.

Nissan makes a good truck. I don't understand the "pig-nose" ford 150 inspired front end however, the old model Titan did not suffer for exterior design. An interior refresh would have been sufficient (and much needed). I'm guessing the reason Nathan seemed not to pleased to review this one is "cannot give driving impression" restriction - probably Nissan's rule for supplying vehicle for review - just a guess

The engine in these new ones disappoint me. One of the things that I liked about the older ones like mine is that it made its peak torque at a much lower RPM, much lower than any other truck on the market. For most uses that is much better. This new engine may make ~80HP more, but it makes the same peak torque as the old engine because its power range is much higher than the old engine.
@xxxxtripxxxxOSG
@xxxxtripxxxxOSG 8 жыл бұрын
Also, the towing rating is not any different than the older model Titans. Not really an issue as this is the half-ton same as the old. But this one offers no reason for me to update anytime soon.

In South Africa a truck with this payload is VERY small (1.4l engine). A 1T truck is smaller than this Titan. Why are US truck payloads so low? Is it for ride comfort?
@francoisdewaal2644

The towing capacities are much lower though. A 1T can tow 7700 lbs max
@splewy
@splewy 8 жыл бұрын
It has to do with the rear axles they use. All "half ton" American pickup trucks use semi-floating rear axles, which realistically can only be expected to handle 1500-2000lbs of payload due to the limitations of their design. "3/4 ton" American pickups are essentially the same in terms of exterior dimensions as "1/2 ton" pickups but they use much stronger full floating rear axles, which doubles their max payload to around 4000lbs. Step up to a "1-ton" dialysis pickup and the payload capacity increases to around 7,000lbs.

+James Wisrik I have owned Nissan, Chevy, Ford, and Dodge (Haven't owned "Ram"). I haven't had reliability issues with any of them. In fact my wife has an Armada now that she loves. My comment wasn't speaking to reliability. I was speaking to the specs and features. The only innovative feature I've heard of on the new Titan is the trailer light check. It just seems that Nissan hasn't brought real innovation to this model. It seems that Nissan has waited too long to update the Titan and still feels like they are playing catch up instead of finding ways to "lead the pack".

Ok I give... was there a spy from Ford spying on Nissan or Nissan spying on Ford. If you look beyond the exterior of the Titan & Titan XD looking like a Ford - Ram mix, but look at the interior. Like the moving center console cup holders in the Titan vs the sliding cup holder 2 - 4 in the 2017 Super Duty. The lockable rear bench seat for storage, the folding under seat storage for access to a flat floor, and both have center console cup holders for the rear seat in the exact same spot. If KZbin would let me post comparison pictures I would.

William Stewart True, and that was due to Nissan underestimating two things: 1. The power of brand perception. Nissan lacked both the "all-American" appeal of the big three, as well as the reputation for rock solid reliability that led to Toyota's cult following. 2. The power of fleet sales. While the big V8, crew/extended cab, 140" wheelbase, well equipped trucks were by far the most popular configuration among private consumers, they were not at all what fleet buyers wanted. A large portion of the Big Three's truck sales are to fleets, and the money from those sales is what allows those manufacturers to constantly keep making critical updates to their trucks.
@WilliamStewart1
@WilliamStewart1 8 жыл бұрын
splewy The truck world is the biggest vehicle segment in the world regarding money and profits, it also has the highest r&d by a landslide. I don't think Nissan had the spare cash to go balls deep so to speak which is needed to get into the truck world. You need to bring out the best product and you need to pump a ton of money into brand imagery, not to mention the marketing.

Looking for a truck, but the titan design is funky and I just can't get past that. Don't want a Ford (overrated and over expensive) and I drive a GMC Sierra z71. Leaning towards a tundra. 🤔

What do you guys expect? these v8's are pretty much maxed out, these manufactures squeezed as much horsepower out of these things as they can "reliably". Its time for them to integrate electric motors. Then watch these things out pull diesels.

16 cupholders for 5 people.....NOT ENOUGH, people, i will need at least 38 inside the cab plus another 60 in the bed, 20 in the tailgate, 10 in each bumper, 16 in the hood, 10 on the roof. Sarcasm aside, seriously, thats 3 cupholders per person and one left over, who needs 3 cup holders per person in a car?? Fit 5 cupholders, and get some proper cubby storage for Ipods and phones and tablets etc.

The sad thing is, the performance on this BRAND NEW truck was already beat 6 years ago. How are you going to come out with essentially an entirely new engine and STILL have the LOWEST numbers in the segment? Come on now, are you trying to compete or not? Thank god all those fucking cup holders were added though.

back in the the 90s 9k was in the 3/4, 1 ton pickups so for the titan to do 9k with a suspencion that doesn't break your neck on speed bumps I would say it's more than expected from a 1/2 ton

I just can't get over the front end, it just looks fugly to me. Honestly the market for 1/2 ton trucks right now is flooded with great offerings from each company. Performance differences are negligible at best. Cosmetically speaking though, I think the 2017 Titan is the ugliest of all of the 1/2 offerings.
