Lately my neighbour called me out to show me his new Fiat(I hate Fiat...) But why would I spoil his fun? So I said : wow....great colour - and look at it-really easy access - and so forth.... Had he asked me for advise before buying this italian car...of course I would have told him about the bad things with Fiat.......but I would never do this when somebody already bought stuff that I dont like.... Take care.... Roger

Nissan can never seem to hit the same numbers that "the big 3" can. That being said, it's not always about numbers and I think the 9,300 pound towing is more than enough for most 1/2 ton owners. Looks like it might be interesting depending on price and mpg.

Payload beats the 1500 by a couple hundred lbs... but is about 300 lbs off Chevy and Ford.

That's because the big 3 have been in the game forever and have established loyal followings. Nissan and Toyota are new to the full size game, and it's a tough market to crack into. But sales numbers don't equal quality. Ford could build a truck out of cardboard and duct tape, and Ford guys will still buy them in heaps.

Nissan makes a good truck. I don't understand the "pig-nose" ford 150 inspired front end however, the old model Titan did not suffer for exterior design. An interior refresh would have been sufficient (and much needed). I'm guessing the reason Nathan seemed not to pleased to review this one is "cannot give driving impression" restriction - probably Nissan's rule for supplying vehicle for review - just a guess

The engine in these new ones disappoint me. One of the things that I liked about the older ones like mine is that it made its peak torque at a much lower RPM, much lower than any other truck on the market. For most uses that is much better. This new engine may make ~80HP more, but it makes the same peak torque as the old engine because its power range is much higher than the old engine.
@xxxxtripxxxxOSG8 жыл бұрын
Also, the towing rating is not any different than the older model Titans. Not really an issue as this is the half-ton same as the old. But this one offers no reason for me to update anytime soon.

In South Africa a truck with this payload is VERY small (1.4l engine). A 1T truck is smaller than this Titan. Why are US truck payloads so low? Is it for ride comfort?
@francoisdewaal26448 жыл бұрын
The towing capacities are much lower though. A 1T can tow 7700 lbs max
@splewy8 жыл бұрын
It has to do with the rear axles they use. All "half ton" American pickup trucks use semi-floating rear axles, which realistically can only be expected to handle 1500-2000lbs of payload due to the limitations of their design. "3/4 ton" American pickups are essentially the same in terms of exterior dimensions as "1/2 ton" pickups but they use much stronger full floating rear axles, which doubles their max payload to around 4000lbs. Step up to a "1-ton" dialysis pickup and the payload capacity increases to around 7,000lbs.

+splewy Yet it still never sold well at all and was always extremely behind in sales, even it's first year.
@splewy8 жыл бұрын
William Stewart True, and that was due to Nissan underestimating two things: 1. The power of brand perception. Nissan lacked both the "all-American" appeal of the big three, as well as the reputation for rock solid reliability that led to Toyota's cult following. 2. The power of fleet sales. While the big V8, crew/extended cab, 140" wheelbase, well equipped trucks were by far the most popular configuration among private consumers, they were not at all what fleet buyers wanted. A large portion of the Big Three's truck sales are to fleets, and the money from those sales is what allows those manufacturers to constantly keep making critical updates to their trucks.
@WilliamStewart18 жыл бұрын
splewy The truck world is the biggest vehicle segment in the world regarding money and profits, it also has the highest r&d by a landslide. I don't think Nissan had the spare cash to go balls deep so to speak which is needed to get into the truck world. You need to bring out the best product and you need to pump a ton of money into brand imagery, not to mention the marketing.

+TrollingSince1991 Lots of 90s 3/4 tons around me tow up to 20k lbs with upgrades for farms. I wouldn't trust the Titan for that

If you wanna tow more, the XD is rated for 12,300.

that's weak torque for a 5.6 litre v8 really the chevy 5.3 litre has 383 lb-ft of torque it only 11 lb-ft of torque more then a 5.3

Ask Nissan when they are gonna offer a sunroof and power folding mirrors on their trucks...................

They both are half tons lol the xd is literally like 1ft longer than the regular titan. The only difference is the drive train and bed length.

I just can't get over the front end, it just looks fugly to me. Honestly the market for 1/2 ton trucks right now is flooded with great offerings from each company. Performance differences are negligible at best. Cosmetically speaking though, I think the 2017 Titan is the ugliest of all of the 1/2 offerings.
