Been searching for a replacement for my old beast, every day drive/ work horse/ small load tow vehicle, for around 12mths now. Saw specs and photos of the Peugeot 3008 when released in Europe 12 mths ago. Now, having actually owned, and driven 2 peugeots (504 & 505) for 17yrs back in the 80s & 90s, and having experienced the absolute comfort and reliability of this brand, replaced only one starter motor in that time, I had no hesitation in waiting 12mths for the release here in Aus of this car. In the meantime I read a lot of reviews and test drove a lot of competitors in this class, Mazda cx5, VW Tiguan, Subaru Forester, Kia Sportage, Hyundai Tucson, Toyota Rav 4 etc. On release of the Peugeot I compared al the specs that I wanted for my purchase, comfort, ride, drive-ability, and price. The Pug came out on top in all criteria, bar the three years warranty, and when it came to price it also beat the rest bar the Subaru, $4.500 less. All these vehicles, with the same or close specs were $3- $6k dearer. These are top of the range fully speced diesel autos. The Mazda drove very well and is a nice place to be in, very small boot the deal breaker on tis one. The VW, dual clutch?, is quick & not so comfortable, 615 lt boot, with back seats fully forward, (cheating there) and very generic looking inside, well finished. Kia & Hyundi nice looking good size boot but rough to ride in and a cheap feel inside (too much hard plastic ). Subaru CVT ? for reversing up hill towing, comfortable and very old school, small boot, great vision and nice ride & value. Toyota, over rated over priced kitchen appliance, comfortable for a short distance, been inside one Toyota you seen them all, low on specs a slug to drive. Pug, Great looks outside, sublime inside, miles in front of rest for design, front seats very comfortable, back ok, boot huge 591 lt & no wheel well intrusion fuel 4.4 lt/100k best in class, 0-60kph in 8.9sec no slouch, best to drive and a great place to be in while doing it. I personally have owned around 45 cars & driven a lot more in my time. The 45 include all bar the Kia that I have owned, so I can honestly say, through 48 yrs of driving, that driving the Pug 3008 is one of the best drives I have experienced so far, bar none. So much so I have ordered the 3008 GT

Nice round up Mick...I am in your shoes right now.. I currently am driving a 14 Cherokee limited, but time to sell for business reasons. I have driven everything, from the new Santa Fe to the E pace, disco sport and everything else in between...Not lugging kids around anymore, so a 7 seater is not needed now. Your descriptions are bang on..The VW (Tiguan and All Space) was a snooze fest and the others (Koreans and Japanese) are just not special feeling, are everywhere, though nicely appointed as you pointed out. And Land rover was just an outright rip off. The E pace was nice but the options are breath taking:) The new Forester looks promising but looks boring on the outside. I do like the the XC40 and will have a look. It's in a similar vein to the 3008 i reckon, though more expensive, but better bang for buck than Audi and the like. My only concern was towing ability and the occasional bush trip, nothing hard core of course, but wondered about the lack of AWD?? Would love to hear your thoughts....Also can you get a full size spare? cheers...Jeff

Hi M N, Took a test drive in a Red GT today... Loved it....Drives nicely, is very quiet and refined and feels special behind the wheel. The missus loved the massage function;) and it feels like it would be a great car to do some big drives in. Diesel was a little noisy under acceleration but had plenty of zip. I think I would settle for the petrol as I wouldn't do the Kms to justify. I agree with the 2 inch increase..if it was halfway between the 5008 and 3008 in size, then "PERFECT" and maybe a 2lt petrol as well. But I think I can live with that...I think the boot is as big as my Cherokee and slightly bigger with the seats folded down, so really it would be a great replacement for the Jeep...No AWD but never used it to it's full potential anyways. Cheers

jeppsta1 Purchased the 3008 GT (pearl white with grip control & foot operated tailgate) around 6mths ago. Firstly, it is one of the nicest cars I have ever driven bar none, and there have been a few , some over twice what I paid for this one. Popular comment about it, " It looks a lot more expensive than that." It is an extremely comfortable car to drive, short or long distances. The torque of the diesel & old fashioned slush box make towing, & more importantly reversing a trailer up a hill, a dream. The economy is excellent at this early stage, 5.2lt/100klm, and will get better when run in as diesels do. Realistically the only little things I would whinge about are the stop/start, switch it off when I get in, & can't reach the centre of the roof when I wash it, have to stand on a box, not that short at 5ft 10inch. This is one of the best head turners I have seen, & judging by the fingerprints all over the glass when I come back to it in a carpark, people are keen to see what it loos like inside as well. The car talks to me if I don't pay attention to the road, automatic brakes work well, never misses a speed sign number, adaptive cruise control is sensational, electric 2 memory & massage seat, small steering wheel & view of dash over it should be on all cars, boot capacity with no wheel wells in the way is great, the list of extras goes on & on. The grip control works extremely well for only front wheel drive. I had it up a few up hill very muddy situations just recently & was blown away at what it did, did not expect that. $200 extra for grip control & you get smaller 18" mags & wider all-terrain tyres. Bargain You could say I am a happy man and would recommend this car to anyone, especially the diesel. love it.

Awesome round up Mick, glad your happy, and the 5 yr warranty is a winner as well now....I will be looking to get one before Xmas. We have also decided that it is exactly what we need and want in an SUV. I have a spray painter mate who can spray the rims black if I wish, so will give that some thought. Probably will go for the red colour. Cheers mate:)

I agree that it is very underated. I found the interior to be top notch! My only issue is that it doesn't have the option of a 4WD or AWD system.

I got my 3008 GTLine full spec and it is great value for money. Love driving it, smooth and quiet. Try the sport mode and it feels like driving a sports car.

I see some panache inside which is nice but the icockpit thing is a balls up, but the rest of the dashboard has some flair which is nice and fair enough. The exterior I find a mixed bag but I don’t dislike it though.

have had a 3008 since aug and it still turns heads when i drive it in town you see people in range rovers looking at it and as for icockpit it only takes a few weeks to sort out and is the way cars will be from now on

I realise they’ve made styling choice with the positioning of the display and the steering wheel but I’m not a fan, the display itself is fine, call me old fashioned but I like my display behind the steering wheel in the traditional way.

julesdon5 been a proud owner of a GT model since November and man it is truly amazing in n out. It is an eye catcher no matter where you go. It is quite punchy but yet very economical to cruise around. European Car of the Year 2017!
