SK, your Prime looks great! Good decision on waiting on pads. I heard we Prius owners need to watch for deterioration of pad separating from metal because they last so long. Yours looked fine. Its GREAT you are using OEM parts. Good how u avoid pinch welds lifting car! I'd prepare for new rotors TOO. Doing a great job! You are saving a ton working on your own cars. 👍

It’s ridiculous how much everything cost nowadays to get it fixed. I just called les Schwab for my two front shocks and it’s over $1100 for the quote. I might just do it myself. Right now it’s running fine so there’s no issue with doing it right away.

Very important; keep your key away from your car and don’t open the drivers door at any time when servicing the brakes on the Prius. Reason being is if you do, it’ll activate the brake booster. You don’t want it doing so when you don’t have pads or rotors on the car, or you’re going to have a very very bad day.

Thank you for this advice. Some people recommend disconnecting the battery

I saw on another a1 auto video they said to pull the negative battery cable off to avoid the brake system from activating brakes. You mentioned key 🔑 away from car!!! So many booby dealership service traps ...

Usually Prius brakes last at least 100,000 miles. But it all depends on how you drive. I have my sister-in-law who had to replace her brake pads at 60,000 miles on a RAV4 because of how she drives and likes to ride the brakes. I will just make sure you get a really good visual on the brake pads as they are hard to see sometimes. Sometimes the dealerships or mechanics want to do them much sooner than they need to. I plan on replacing mine for the first time this year and they are at 185,000 miles. But I did put it on mostly highway miles.

@DIYBIGMAN just tool it to my local mechanic.they said its metal on metal. Going to cost me 600. Just thought on a hybrid they would last longer.

@DIYBIGMAN I just did the conversation and its 56,000 miles I'm changing them at. They said the back is fine for now. I am mostly city driving though.

@DIYBIGMAN since it's winter and I don't have a garage I am going to pay it. Can you make a video? I am not a mechanic by am means but I can do stuff to my car. I've changed oil, spark plugs stuff like that. Never brakes though.

That’s interesting. I think my rears wore the same or a little bit faster than my front pads. take a really good flashlight and see if you can take a look at it $600 that’s a lot of money might be worth getting a quote
