@ChrisFix I want to say so much more, but after my dad passed away last year I lost my rock for everything automotive related. I knew basics, but having my dad to rely upon when I wanted to work on a vehicle just gave me so much peace. A few months ago I donated a kidney to a friend and have been out of work for awhile. Things started happening to my vehicles and I didn't want to lose money to a mechanic. I was still dealing with not being able to pick up the phone and call my dad for help, so I turned to your channel. I needed to fix a tie rod and my brakes. Your videos gave me so much help, and most importantly....peace of mind, to fix the problems on my own. I may not have my dad any more to call upon, but thank you for your videos because rest assured that I am not the only one missing their dad when help is needed and you have filled that void 💯

Very true. It also helps mechanics refresh things and confirm the proper way. There is the right way, fast way, and wrong way to do things. Yet the secret to mechanics. The fast way is the wrong way. This video can also help you prove that if you take your car to a shop. Then get home. You can check to see if they in fact worked on your car and did it "Right". Hey Chris, I just replaced my front brake rotors and pads. Also needed to pull apart one of the calipers to restore the pistons and seals. Followed it up with a brake fluid bleed and change, and an oil and oil filter change. Thanks to your videos, none of this was a hassle, the only hard part was breaking those bolts holding on to brake calipers! The money I saved was more than enough to buy a beautiful set of tools and still come out in front. Better than the saving of money was the satisfaction that I could accomplish something most people would not dare to attempt. I even had a five year old helping out with handing me tools, pumping the brake pedal during the brake bleed, and learning how brakes work along the way. I can’t express enough how appreciative I am that you generously share your knowledge and confidence in your videos. Cheers!

Then I used to come back from school or whatever and he fixed it alone. Now I'm starting my masters in mechanical engineering in 1 year with just enough knowledge to change a lightbulb. The thing is, he said his father wasn't handy and therefore had to do everything himself. I kinda feel like he wants me to learn everything myself instead of him teaching me because that's the way he learned it. Can't blame the old fella. Still have a 1982 rusty Honda cm450. Dealership told me I needed all new pads and rotors and quoted $1100, and in addition there was a stripped wheel stud which is apparently an additional $400 in labor, bringing the dealership total to almost $1500. I bought all new rotors and pads, a floor jack, replacement wheel studs, and a caliper tool for around $500 total. The best part is now I know how to do it for my wife's car, which will probably be close to another $1000 saved. You have a unique set of technical skills coupled with great presentation abilities. 8 years ago you uploaded this, and today it's still one of the top brake tutorials on YT (as are all yours). A few days ago my caliper seized and shredded my brakes. I had no where enough money to bring it to a shop, but I could just afford the parts alone, so I got it done today and my truck is back and rolling... and stopping as it should lol. Only with your help from your videos though, I wouldn't have the confidence to do it myself, and my dad would rather pay for it to get done at a shop instead of showing me but I don't want that easy route. We need more people like you, God Bless!

Just finished changing my brakes and rotors. I like cleaning and lubticating tips you have really made a difference. I watched this video 20 times. I made sure i had all the parts and supplies before starting. Did the front breaks on saturday and the rear brakes on sunday. Its hot in Texas so i did them late in the evening and early in the morning. Everything sounds smooth and great. I only spent about 50 dollars on the pads and few dollars on tools. Overall i spent about 150 dollars and it took about 2 to 3 hours with a few stops to drink some water to stay hydrated. Thanks for your help ChrisFix!

Hello chris fix I wanted to say thank you. I watched a lot of your videos over the years and you have given me the confidence to do. Car repairs myself and not be ripped off by garages. Sharing your knowledge over the years has saved me literally thousands of uk pounds. And even watching you're super clean videos inspired me to become a hobbyist car Detailer. @standardcapacity6 жыл бұрын
I don't remember which of his video has it, but in one of the videos Chris has up - he does open the reservoir when trying to compress a caliber that had two pistons. Unscrew the reservoir, and let the cap sit there. Be careful not to let any containment in (aka - watch out for dirt getting in the reservoir)

Wow, 6 years already, i first watched it when it was 2 years old. I was lost in life, worked every warehouse, retail & service job going. I was couple months into fitting tyres, already loved my job, but this video gave me the confidence to ask my boss to let me do a brake job (under very close supervision). Havent looked back since and can now happily call myself a mechanic The job can be frustrating at times, and some days takes weeks to recover from (just physically) but I wouldnt trade it for anything. Its allowed me to build and provide for my family and has given me purpose, the best careers arent just money, you have to have a bit of your heart in it. the job takes knowledge, confidence, passion and tools- to owe half of that to a stranger is a weird feeling, and i cant really thank you enough. I owe you a handshake and a drink chris. If there is a higher power i hope they can translate my gratitude to your good fortune.

Hey Chris. I've been watching you and your car repair video for years and I'm happy to report that I've recently replaced the brakes and rotors on my '09 Honda Fit, following your video. This is my third vehicle and with each DIY project I do, my car becomes less intimidating and I feel more confident about trying my own car repairs. I grew up with my mother and sister and my father wasn't in my life to teach me about this stuff (and he's a car guy). Now I'm married with 3 kids of my own and I hope to be able to pass down what I'm learning about cars to them as well. Starting with how to change your Blinker Fluid. 😉 Just wanted to say thanks.

Chris - THANK YOU! Had a very full weekend thanks to you. Ended up replacing all 4 pads and rotors on my Hyundai Tucson (90k miles), bled the brakes, and did a transmission fluid change. My wife was very leery of me doing the brake change, but I showed her the intro to this exact video of you talking about how simple it is and very hard to mess up. That eased her nerves (and mine too!!) that I could do it. Just getting into car maintenance. Did oil changes for the first time a few weeks ago. Now jumped into the deep end with these 3 all on the same weekend. Next up is replacing front pads and rotors and brake bleed to my Hyundai Elantra (145k miles). All in all probably spent close to $600 on all the parts, consumables, various tools, jack stands and a quality 3-ton floor jack. Spent about $450 on rear pads and rotors at a local mechanic back in 2020 so I can't imagine what I would've paid for the work I did this weekend. All in all, like I said, thank you! Keep up the good work.

Your videos are so good and informative that they are a key reason I am going to start DIY with my cars and try to fix up a few and see what happens. The ODB2 reader is really great, but could you do a video on finding what needs to be fixed in a car, stuff the ODB2 reader cannot report on? Like how do I know if the brakes need to be replaced or not, if the rotors are actually okay? How can I find what needs to be fixed, for a beginner? Rather than just waiting for a serious problem to let me know.
