2017 Ram 1500 oil change - 5.7L Hemi engine maintenance!

A quick overview on a Ram 1500 oil change on the 5.7L Hemi engine using the factory Air Suspension as a nice tool to avoid using ramps.
This is just a quick overview to give the general idea on the easy way to change your oil. This is certainly not a full step-by-step guide and is for entertainment purposes only.

The bag was a great idea. I havent done an oil change on my truck yet but in my last car i had the same problem. I would use foil as a sort of a funnel to guide everything down into the catch pan.

This oil is not Chrysler MS-6395 compliant. Shouldn't be used in this engine for warranty purposes.

Weird. Had an issue with my dealership (long story) and they wanted to give me 2 free oil changes to make up for their screw up. I said sure - give me filters and oil and we have a deal. This is what they gave me for oil.

@@tsr6 That's a shame. Nobody has accused Ram as being smart. Look in your owners manual under fluids and it will say it must be Chrysler MS-6395 compliant. Checkout the Mobil oil website and you will see that oil is not MS-6395 compliant.. Granted I have run Mobil 1 oil in my Hemi ram and showed wonderful oil analysis numbers. (My truck is out of warranty) Just wanted to share this with you.

7 quarts of synthetic 5w-20 motor oil. It was what he had. Brand name does not matter. This is also what the Ram website said.

I used valvoline full synthetic since my ram was new in 2017, changed it to pennzoil platinum full synthetic last oil change

I use pennsoil 5 20 factory oil filter no problems

Will the air suspension hold in that mode? I’ve seen the suspension self adjust when parked a few times wondering how to prevent that

It’ll hold the mode, but self adjust within that level.

I don't think you can remote start the truck with the hood open, so not a big risk there. Love the ziploc bag idea.

They should have a hood pin kill switch, but they do break. Freaking genious with the bag man! I've been doing driveway oil changes for 20 years, wish I'd thought of it!

Thank you so much for Sharing. Now that you have had the air suspension...what do you like and dislike about it. I'm seriously considering air suspension. I imagine the comfort is out of this world?

The ride comfort is amazing - back with my 2014 I had a loaner for a week without the air suspension and you definitely can feel the difference. It even corners better in my opinion. The standard spring truck felt soft and spongy at times

tsr6 Are you still happy with the air suspension? My boyfriend's Limited EcoDiesel and one of his friends' Rebel HEMI both had similar issues, which is why I went with the standard suspension, even though it was pretty much the same price back then. He quickly traded it for a bifuel hemi V8 Laramie, and I have a bifuel hemi sport. Very happy with it.

The air suspension is still great for me. I put 82K mi on my 2014 and already have 50+K on my 2017 both with air suspension!

*Air suspension is nice, but a pain in the ass for maintenance if a bag leaks or a line leaks or if the whole system fails, I’d driven one without it perfectly fine, unless you don’t work on your trucks and let a mechanic do it then sure*
