I drove Chevy's and Ford's for years .. I finally tried RAM. I bought a 2020 RAM 1500 5.7 HEMI bighorn extended cab sport 4x4 with a 3.92 rear gear ratio. After 6 months of owning this truck I wouldn't own a ford or Chevy as long as I live! The power is amazing!? The style, the set up is incredible. Pulls like a 12 pack of Clydesdales and hauls ass like a scraped ape if you get into that pedal! I'm 54 years old and have owned A lot of trucks over the years and It's one of the best pickups I've ever owned.

I’ve had Chevy’s and fords as well. Just rode and drove in my dads 23 ram 5.7 pulling a trailer empty and loaded and man it pulled and rode like a dream. I’m really thinking about trying my first ram. I couldn’t believe how smooth it rode!

Getting my brand new hemi next week with rear wheel drive, 3.92 gear ratio. I have been in construction all my life, drove them all just like you. The hemi with high gear ratio it’s the best of all cars not just the com ups. The power ratio and ability to understand your engine. It floats like an electric car.

Awesome man! I have been thinking of getting a Ram, would be my first one as well. Im just not too thrilled on all the issues like cheap glass for windshield, water getting int he cab, E torque issues, manifold bolts breaking. Im not brand loyal but all the GM and Chevys i have had over the past 20+ years never failed me. But I do love their interiors and seats.

I’ve never been a huge ram guy but my dad picked one up in 2019. It was cheap. 2017 5.7 hemi with 180000km at the time. It now has 365000 km on the original engine and transmission. No ticks essentially and runs amazing! It’s had a few things go on it, but as to be expected. Been a really solid truck otherwise.

No ticks, nothing and still pulls just like it was new. I only did manifold bolts and front wheel bearings that's it. She's very reliable

2010 ram I bought it new still own it 150,000 miles reg synthetic oil changes at 5000 mile intervals, 1 time dura lubed, 1 time slick 50 at under 15 thousand miles shell premium gas,3 changes of antifreeze mostly hwy miles at 😳 mph tx heat , compleat problems ever , 2 batteries, heated mirrors,thermostat,driver seat coating peeled about 3 inch patch driver side , just did brakes, 1 set shocks, 3 sets tires , tps in tires , dome lite glitch but will work , sunviser clips inside, nav screen just starting to glitch wanders and touch screen not really responding , driver side rear window moter, 1 set headlights, clear coat starting to get the white spots , fixed not truck fault three deer committed suicide by truck 1 not bad front 2 side impacts two hail storms, 1 ice storm compleat shell 1/2 inch thick wile driving 200 miles on frozen freeway , sat in 3 hurricanes for job ,2 wheel drive , cleans up nice nothing wrong with dash covers headliner etcetera, washed once a month ish , so just fill up get in and pass most of the freeway runs great , I would say YES i would absolutely buy another since I do own 4 ..2 gas 1/ 2 tons ,2 cummens diesels 3/4 and 3500, 2010,2018, 2018, 2022 , I will wait a few years before I think about the hurricane engine , JMHO

Great video and great comments! Original owner of a 2018 Ram 1500 5.7 Hemi with limited slip and 3.92 gears. Just turned 50K with no issues so far. 1385 total engine hours with 72 hours idle. Change oil every 5,000. As far as mileage goes, city mpg sucks as expected, but highway regularly exceeds 20 mpg. More than acceptable. Sounds like the lifters were upgraded in '17 so fingers crossed. Love the truck so far.

I’ve worked for Mopar for 20+yrs. I’ve been through several classes on the “cam issue”. Failure rate of the lifters is under 1% out of nearly 1.8 million made since 2009. That’s Rams and Dodge/Chrysler/Jeep. Personally on number 7. First six all made it to at least 140k before being sold. Two were over 200.

Been worried about the whole “ lifter and cam shaft” issues I’ve been reading so much about. Bought this one to pull my 5000 lb travel trailer around very soon. Any suggestions on the best oil rating to use? Do you suggest using an oil additive as well with moly to “ coat” the cam and lifters? Thank you in advance

Thanks for that stat. While watching I was wondering how common of a problem the lifter issue is. I am a little concerned because I have been relying on the owner's manual suggested oil change interval which appears to be too long. I have been using synthetic oil exclusively for my oil changes and not hearing the tick so I guess I'm good but wonder if my engine life has been shortened to some extend.

I call that bs. I know many that have had that issue. I’ve owned and still own a 2015 Jeep grand Cherokee I bought new, that got that issue at around 120k miles not to mention many other common issues that I learned about as common issues for fiat cars. None were minor . Which it should be. All over 1k or more . The famous so called minor ticking cost me $3,500 and that was half the engine lifters rocker arms and something else. Well I stupid me bought a new 2020 crew cab 2500 Ram 6.4gas and it now has 24k miles and the ticking has begun among other issues. It loves its moma because my Ram always wants to return to its dealer. I’m done with fiat vehicles. I think ima have to go Chevy 2500hd. No stupid knob, no ticking , hopefully and no stupid Cylinder deactivation. From the big 3 I love the Rams design, looks but that’s about it. Very unreliable . They should easily go way over 200k miles before major issues. Ticking is major because it’s not cheap. Ticking issues in various ticking forms have been a fiat issue for like a decade or more and yet still have that issue. That crap should be a damn recall problem . They tick and yet they keep making them the same way without fixing the problem because of fan boys. I’ve had a Silverado now a Ram and going back to Chevy. Ford is to expensive for me otherwise I’d give them a shot. As far as fiat goes, I’m done with them.

A year ago I bought a 2022 Ram 1500 with the 5.7 Hemi. I change the oil every 3,000 to 5,000 miles or every six months, whichever comes first. I'm not a big engine sound guy, however I must admit I DO like the 5.7 Hemi exhaust sound!

I own a 2020 RAM 1500 with the 5.7 Hemi with the E-torque option. I love the sound also, but install a Cat-Back Corsa exhaust kit & a S&B CAI and you won't be able to wipe the smile off your face, especially during a cold start!

I have owned a 5.7 hemi in a 2019 as well as more than one 6.2l GM. Fuel economy wise they were around the same. I did have the 3.982 gears in my RAM so it was a gas eater but boy could it tow.... The RAM was significantly more reliable in the 65k i had it i never had engine problems of any kind. One thing i would add to your list of "pros" is on a modern RAM, the 8 speed ZF transmission. That transmission is probably the best one in a half ton right now. Smooth, crisp shifts and never hunts for gears. Sure its not a direct part of the engine but its a big part of what makes the package great.

Facts, those two GM's were in for repairs constantly from the moment they rolled off the lot new, the RAM was not. If i didn't need a 1 ton truck to haul a 5th wheel i would still have the RAM.

As an owner of 2022 f150 on which I've been in the shop for 6 times with transmission issues - couldn't agree more. Got transmission valve body replaced and 35kms - didn't help. Now just had a cdf drum replaced - which is basically a rebuild, since transmission had to be removed and been completely taken apart - still rough downshifts ( truck nosedives on a downshift, so you feel every downshift). Currently 42k Kms - transmission is junk and was junk since new. The most expensive vehicle I've bought so far - and the biggest disappointment, apart from my 2019 f150 which was a complete garbage. Best part - my coworker got his sierra in the shop right now with a transmission done at 110kms, which is basically the same transmission as Ford. For the price you pay for these trucks and what you get - I think its a rip-off. Literally could go and buy an bmw x5 of lexus gx for this money, problem is - they are not a truck. But the point is - price tag of a luxury vehicle, but quality of a cheap $10k Chinese vehicle...

My 2020 Ram 1500 Classic Tradesman 5.7 Hemi quad cab 2wd has been great so far after 43,000 miles. No real issues, runs smooth, easy to mod/maintain, and it’s paid off. Easy to get over 23 mpg highway with it with how I have it set up. Pulls our 7,000 lbs horse trailer just fine. Just a good all around do it all work truck with enough grunt to have fun.

I bought a new 2009 Ram 1500. Lifter failure at 247K. At the time (2018) the cam/lifters were hard to find. I replaced the the engine from a wrecked one w/40K cheaper than the parts to repair it. Still have and drive it a few days a week.I like the truck and the Hemi!

From everything I'm seeing, I think the exhaust manifold bolts and fuel filters in these Rams are pretty minor issues compared to the valve issues in the GM trucks and the cam phaser issues in the Fords.

Its all about oil changes. I changed my oil every 3k miles. Now they recommend anywhere from 6-12k miles crazy. Relatively speaking doing your own oil change is cheap and a good guarantee it will be well worth it in the long run.

115,000 miles on a 2019. No tick, no issues, but I take care of it and keep up with the maintenance. I always drive in tow mode or manually set it to 8th gear so the cylinders don’t shut off. Helps save the brakes as well. Great engine.

Ive owned the Ford 5.0 and the Hemi. There was always a throttle lag in the Ford that just killed the buzz in the f150. The Hemi's response however was immediate and it let you know you were driving something special. That drivetrain is the best Ive ever owned by far.

I had a 2012 Ram 1500 4x4 with the 5.7L. Very reliable after 8 years and 90k miles. Only issue is I had to replace the thermostat on the cooling system. However, my gas mileage sucked as I had the limited slip with the 3.92 gears. 13 mpg around town and 17 on the highway. Gas costs was killing me out here in komifornia so I sold it. Now I regret that decision.

@@kimkino2790 Any modern big name synthetic oil is fine. I use Mobil 1 because of the high flash temps and it's usually a little cheaper. Mobil 1 is the factory fill for lots of performance engines so it's good enough for me. The key is not to leave any oil in too long. For me, I change the oil and filter every 6 months or 6,000 kms. When I was commuting I changed the oil and filter every 10,000 kms which was 3 months. The engine ran perfect at 170,000 kms. The best oil is clean oil.

@kimkino2790 in this video he has a link back to some 0w40... but I've seen a lot of people using 5w30 saying he thicker viscosity has quieted their lifters, but I'm not sure. Seems to me that if the engine needs to fling oil up that high and move easily through the roller channels, you'd want something with a relatively thin viscosity. Just a thought.

I own a 2010 Ram 1500 TRX with 5 speed auto and. 3.21 gears. Bought it in 2014 with 53k. It has been a wonderful truck consistently gets 20 mpg on highway. We towed a 28 foot travel trailer with it over 700 miles one way. Only drawback is the coil spring in rear doesn't handle loads that the engine can tow. Currently has 192k on it had exhaust manifold gasket replaced at 125. Never had lifter issue but i use full synthetic and Marvel Mystery in every oil change around 4000 miles

Nice video👍. Ive owned my 2018 Ram with the 5.7 and 3.21 gears since 2019, and I change my oil every 5k miles- zero valvetrain issues. I fully believe the valvetrain failures are from people running the oil to 8K plus miles cuz the computer allows it, and the oil breaks down causing the moving parts to fail. It now has just under 120K miles on it, and Ive had to do the exhaust man bolts and fan clutch. All in all it gets 18-19 mpg in the summer and has been great for the most part👍. Use full synthetic oil every 5K miles and the engine will be good to go

These trans are shifted by the computer, so it has several different shifting characteristics depending on engine load and throttle position

Purchased my 2019 ram 1500 big horn 2 months ago from the dealership. Its has 80k miles on it and has had one owner. I love this truck so far! My exhaust manifolds were leaking, but luckily they were covered under warranty. Use 5w 20 synthetic oil. Dont use that crap 0w 20 water oil that the factory recommends. I have an 05 Durango in my backyard that has 200k that still runs great. Loved that Durango. I just needed a truck because im a carpenter and need a truck to haul my tools around.

We have a 2012 Ram 5.7L with 160,000 miles without an engine failure. From what I have read, there is about a 5% failure rate and most of these failures are high idle time vehicles like law enforcement. Of the various theories of the reason for failures, I think the needle bearings are the main suspect. I change the synthetic oil on our truck every 5000 miles to eliminate the sticky lifter as a potential problem. Our exhaust manifold leaks. Apparently the cure is to machine down the warped manifold flat again. If you reinstall the warped manifold, you’ll just keep getting failures. This truck has ample power, is comfortable to drive on long trips, handles nicely and even with the stock muffler, has the most satisfying sound. We have multiple vehicles and the Ram is by far our favorite to drive on road trips.

I’ve always been a Ford Truck guy. Last Ford my wife and I owned was a 2019 F150 STX 2.7 Ecoboost. Great power, but the interior felt cheap and seats not the greatest. We went to look at the 2021 XLT F150. Just wasn’t crazy about it. So went to test drive a 2021 Ram 1500 Hemi. We loved it. The ride, the sound. Plus it felt solid. We ended up trading the 19 to the 21 Ram 1500 Lonestar 4x4. We moved from Houston to Wisconsin Rapids. My wife followed me doing 65. Since I was in the U-Haul truck. She got 750+ mile range at one point after filling up in Little Rock. Honestly not bad for a V8. Has great power and shifts smooth. Unlike the 10 Speed Transmission in the F150. Great review

Looks like you've made a right choice. I've replaced my POS 2019 xlt 5.0, for a piece of shit 2022 xlt302a 5.0. These 2 are the worst vehicles I've ever had, but the most expensive ones I've bought. Now after having my 2022 F150 - I'm watching this video to figure out what to get instead. Pretty sad, since I always had vehicles for a number of years before I've got my 1st f150. Got an 07 hemi ram. That thing does NOT like premium gas or no name gas. Pings, ticks, knocks randomly. Sometimes left bank, sometimes right bank, sometimes top end, sometimes bottom end. Now it's just good quality 85 or 87 gas like ESSO, shell or any top tier. No problems any more. Drove me nuts figuring that lesson out.

I understand that with all of the computers making specific calculations in today's engines, putting Premium Fuel in a vehicle designed/programmed to use 87-89 octane fuel is a waste of hard-earned money. This is not to say that you cannot get a quality programmer to set your fuel parameters for using higher octane therefore possibly adding benefits. I could be wrong.

Have a 2020 Ram Rebel 4X 5.7 hemi eTorque which I love. Change the oil every 5K miles. Had battery issues, but finally bought an AGM battery which solved that problem. Great truck. Would definitely buy again.

152k km on my 2018 Ram 1500 Sport, running nice and smooth. Minimal idling hours, which is low oil pressure on the Hemi, which IMO is related to the lifter problems. Police force has experienced this. I find it's a great engine. Of course both exhaust manifolds were done, passenger side dealer warranty, drivers side did it myself. It was not that bad a job to be honest, but bolt was flush with the manifold not the head. So just a vice grip extraction, easy peazy.

I've heard that as well. low oil pressure. bottom line limited idle time is highly beneficial for these engines. I guess as a mechanic when there are broken bolts involved things can go bad very quickly but it seems the broken bolts tend to come out pretty well.

2014 Durango R/T awd 5.7. 130k miles. Just did the cam and lifter job. Tore it down as soon as I heard the tick. Two lifters were failed but hadn’t seized yet (one mds lifter and one non mds lifter went out). The coinciding lobes were beginning to pit and about 4 other lobes had the hardened coating rubbed off. Just caught it in time before the cam got chewed up. Did an mds delete kit by AMS had everything I needed and more. First ever cam/lifter job, pretty straight forward just took the weekend and about $2k. Shop quoted $5k. I’m getting better city mileage by 1-2mpg (according to the computer) with the mds delete and tune and it’s way smoother. Love this engine even more now that I’ve torn it down. Hopefully I’ll get another 200k+ miles out of it.

Bought a 13' Ram 1500 with the 5.7 back in 2015. Had 25k mi at time of purchase. I did have to replace the manifold bolts at 85k mi. Local exhaust shop charged $700 to do the job. Unfortunately truck got t-boned and was totaled last month. 142k mi and was still like the day I drove it home. Never developed the dreaded Hemi tick. I do agree that using high quality oil and changing every 5,000 is a good guard against the lifter issue. Currently shopping for my next Ram. Going with the 5.7 once again.

Great video. From all the research I’ve done over the last 10 years it appears as though Chrysler has redesigned the lifters numerous times along with hardening the camshaft. The last round of revisions I’m told was in 2017. I bought a 2012 new and it failed from this issue at 192,000 miles. Thankfully, my lifetime warranty gave me a new engine. I just bought a 2023 Power Wagon and I’m hoping this issue is resolved by now!

The manifold repair is absolutely a driveway fix. That's where I fixed mine lol. All you have to buy is a new manifold (I just milled mine flat), gasket set, and bolt set. Not that expensive.

if you catch it early, just use a left hand drill bit to pull the broken stud out without removing the manifold, spin a new one in, tighten it and youre done.

@hemigodre that doesn't fix the issue though. The manifold will still be warped and break more studs. I milled my manifold down flat. The idea is that the manifold shouldn't warp anymore since it's gone through so many heat cycles.

I have owned a 2015 ram 5.7 since new 215000 miles and still running strong. I do regular oil changes at 5000 Miles. I did replace the oil pan due to rusting from most likely the heavy road salt in my area. It does have a broken exhaust stud just have not got around to changing it out yet.

As someone who has faced the lifter issue more than once, I can say that it is definitely lubrication and the fact that Ram specifying lighter oils for better EPA figures. There is a even a thread on the Ram forum discussing it at length, even to the smallest detail about what brand of engine oil would give the best protection with independent lab testing, etc. Based on my experience with a truck currently at 300,000 kms, I would say that using a good 5w30 / 0w40 oil that has a decent amount of moly additive or a good additive package is one part of the occasion and also keeping the change intervals short like 3000 - 4000 miles would be the best way to prevent the lifter issue. If your budget can hold it, use Redline 5w30 as it has been proven to be really good for the Hemi, even quietening lifter tick in engines that have the issue. Other well recommended oils are Mobil 1 Fully Synthetic 0w40. I'm currently running Liquimoly Molygen with the Liquimoly Hydraulic Lifter fluid Additive. My engine is quiet and sounds great.

I Have a 2019 challenger RT with the 5.7 hemi and I love the car. It has 91,000 miles on it and runs great. I didn’t realize I had a warranty on my vehicle until last year so I’ve been trying to milk it as much as I can luckily the technician caught the lifter tick today so that when my warranty is out at 100,000 I don’t have to worry about it later on.

Bought 2019 5.7 1500 new. 85,000 miles currently. Have only had return it to dealer once! It was the driver door open/close switch. As far as mileage goes it would get roughly 19 mpg. I had an Edge on my previous truck, I liked it so I installed one on this truck. It has numerous power settings, I keep it on the mileage setting. With it on this sitting I get 21 to 23 mpg without any noticeable power loss. The truck tows great, I can tow 8000 lbs up the Needles grade without slowing down, it downshifts of course, but no issues. The Edge does give you a bunch of gauges and other tools, expensive though, but you get what you pay for!

I bought mine brand new in 2003 in the Ram 2500 SLT 4 door long bed. I have used it for towing my camper and as a daily driver. I currently have 154,000 miles on it, with 0 engine problems. I have used Mobil 1-10w30 with changes at 5,000 mile intervals. With 410 gearing, I get ~12 mpg. Tows like a dream and the engine sound is awesome! Best truck I have ever had.

I've had a top end rebuild done( to it by Rock Hill automotive.} CC code was misfire cylinder #3 it turned out that was correct, and entailed a replacement of the lifters and camshaft at 157000 Miles, they did a great job! I would also Warn people not to go to the dealership...they have junior mechanics , just learning their trades...a NAPA can give you more confidence than a dealer can ...Their mechanics started with the dealerships and moved to the independents, like Rock Hill Automotive

I had a 2010 Big Horn 5.7 Hemi bought new In March of 10 and drove that truck for 8 years . Sold the truck in 2018, reluctantly. I loved driving The Ram it was very comfortable smooth and quiet and handled more like a quality SUV than a truck. I changed out the stock Goodyear tires for Cooper AT's and always had it serviced every 4000 miles. I have owned and driven many vehicles over the years from Luxury Sport Sedans to high performance sports cars. I consider the Ram 1500 Big Horn and The truck i replaced it with, a 2017 Ram Laramie 5.7 to be the finest, most comfortable and reliable vehicles I have ever owned . My first car was a 1965 Toyota Crown Deluxe sedan , bought used in 1968.

I have a 2017 Ram 1500 with a 5.7 and I absolutely love it.. trucks been through hell and back pulling almost 10,000 lb basically maxed out on towing capacity with a triple axle trailer for over a year with absolutely no problem.. I think the hemi tick is a bit over hyped.. I think if you're doing your maintenance and checking your fluid levels properly and not idling the truck for long periods of time it should never be a problem. I did have to replace manifold bolts, one snapped off about 60,000 miles.

Ive owned a few of the 09-18 rams, now have a 18 with the 5.7. All the dealers had lots of 3.6L V6s on their lots, but the 5.7 was a must have for me. I had a 3.6 Ram, didnt like it, and ended up trading it back in very soon. The 5.7 may not make as much power as an ecoboost, but boy does it sound better! And the ram has by far, the smoothest ride of any full sized pickup. Throw in some air bags, and you won't squat, and ride great.

I have a 2014 5.7 L Hemi Ram Sport. It has been a fantastic truck. At approx. 180,000 km replaced a cracked exhaust manifold. Not a big deal. Always changed my oil at 5000 to 7000 kms. Followed the maintenance schedule for all fluids etc. At 250,000 km the truck developed the "Feared Lifter Tick". A local garage diagnosed the problem and I had 2 options. Replace the top end which included heads, cam, timing chain etc for about $6000. Or, get a Rebuilt engine for about $11,000. It was a no brainer to get the rebuilt as there could have been a plugged oil galley or pieces of metal floating around in the original engine. The truck is still in mint shape with a new rebuilt engine. I installed JBA Shorty Headers and an S&B Cold Air Intake with custom exhaust. Borla Pro XS muffler with resonator delete and stepped up to 5 inch MBRP tips. A lot cheaper than buying another truck. I Love the Hemi and it runs and sounds great.

My 2012 Hemi RAM has been awesome but I did have the lifter/cam failure. I put every mile on this truck, oil changes at Dodge every 5000 miles, virtually no sitting around idling, almost never punched it, and #8 went bad at 154,000 miles. My neighbors 13 Hemi #5 went bad at 156,000 miles. We replaced them and trucks run great again. Overall I would buy a new one but just too expensive.

I've had a 2019 a 2021 and now a brand new 24.... each had the 5.7. Changed oil at 4500 to 5500miles never had a issue with any of them the new one only has 600 miles on it right now. But the other 2 I've idled in the summer in the heat, in fact the 21 had about 30 more idle hours than driving. Just kept my oil changed and never had issues. Had to do a heater core in the 21 but that was really it. Love each one!

I own a 2010 Ram 1500 with the 5.7 Hemi and I did have the lifter failure on the #5 intake. I rebuilt the engine and it is running great. I did put the Hellcat oil pump in place of a stock OEM oil pump but I changed out the high pressure release spring with the stock one to avoid a low oil pressure code that others have seen due to very high pressures. The PCM seems to interpret anything outside the range as "low" oil pressure, and I have not experienced any codes. I have, as many others have, heard of numerous theories as to why the failure occurs, and I tend to believe it is not necessarily any one thing but a combination of factors. As far as the dirty oil, it may contribute to some of these failures but not all of them. My Hemi had regular oil changes every 3,000 miles with a couple going as high as 5,000 miles. I don't buy that that had any contribution to my lifter failure. By the way, the #5 intake was the only lifter that was bad. The other 15 had no bearing play and showed very nominal wear on the roller surface. Same with camshaft - all lobes looked good with only nominal wear except the #5 intake lobe that was chewed up by the lifter roller. I took apart one each of the MDS lifters and non-MDS lifters to get a better understanding of how each functions and I noticed one very interesting thing; the MDS lifter has a passage way all the way through the body which would allow oil to run onto the roller and camshaft lobe, while the non-MDS lift has no passage whatsoever through the body to the roller. Therefore, non-MDS lifter rollers can only get lubrication through potential oil that runs down through the lifter bore, or by splash from the crankshaft. I have heard that there have been lifter failures in both the MDS and non-MDS lifters but now I'm wondering if that is true. In going back through some past videos I have viewed on the failure, they were all either the #3, #5, and #8 positions. All three of these are non-MDS positions. So I would really like to learn if anyone out there experienced the failure on an MDS position (#1, #4, #6, or #7), and not just "heard" that MDS lifters have failed. My theory is that they don't occur on the MDS due to the oil passage all the way through the lifter body, unless that passage got clogged. That would not be likely as the passage is significant in size and if oil was sludged up enough to block that passage, then the oil is the culprit in those cases.

Not a Ram but I've been daily driving a '15 Challenger R/T for the last 8 years (bought it new) and it's a great engine paired with the ZF 8-speed. I've done all the oil changes myself every 5,000 mi with good name brand synthetic 5w20 oil and OE filters and I've had no problems or ticks. I'd put the Ram 1500 with the 5.7 V8 at the top of my list if I was shopping for a new truck.

I’ve got a 2020 rebel. Things to remember about the 5.7 and 6.4. 1. Only 5% of hemis have the lifter go bad and destroy the cam over time. They have low hot idle oil pressure so you don’t want them to idle for long periods of time. If you change oil ever 5k miles (8,050 km) you should never see this problem. 2. The flange of the exhaust manifold is very thick and is prone to breaking bolts after lots of miles. I love the truck and it drives way better and is higher quality than my previous GM truck.

Think about what your saying, " they have low oil pressure at idle you don't want to idle them to long"....thats insane take let me fix it for you... Since the 5.7L Hemi has problems when idled to much due to low oil pressure, Ram needs to add more oil pump volume or utilize an electric bypass ( Ford ) or variable displacement pump ( chevy ) if needed to have good idle oil pressure and keep it sane at cruise...I own a 2021 limited not a hater but I notice it has 28psi hot idle and all my LS had 40+.....

I had a 2004 1500 with the 5.7. Best truck I have ever owned. No transmission issues but the motor did let go at 160k miles. I abused it pretty good. I replaced it with a 2014 2500 4x4 with the 5.7 and this was the worst truck I had ever owned. Many power train issues and electrical issues as well. I do believe with all brands that you either get a good one or a bad one.

2018 10500 miles 3.92 rear axle 6ft 4 ram box standard maintenance done did have broken exhaust bolts put flowtech 1 3/4 tube shorty headers flowmaster cat back, k&n cai. Pull 8500 lb travel trailer 20k miles no issues . Trans temp never breaks 200 deg, 10 to 12 mpg. Empty I get 17 to 19 in north ga mountain don't use eco system . Engine braking is outstanding!. 5k to 6k oil change factory oil only. 94k on brakes not even worn out almost 5mm left. Replaced coil packs and plugs at 100k myself . Full coolant service at 100k.

i've had a lifter failure the lifter retainer is plastic and was snapped in half and had a stuck mds solenoid it was on my 2011 and it happed once i hit 200,000. had 3 broken exhaust manifold bolts when i removed head to do the repair. great truck lots of power

I had a 2017 Rebel had the 3.92 rear. I could get up to 17 mpg. I pit 74,000 miles on it before i traded it in. Never had any problems with it. My wife currently has a 5.7L in her Jeep Grand Cherokee L and i have the 6.4L hemi in my HD. So far so good here. ...... Any idea why the Jeep 5.7 and the truck 5.7 have different specs??

My First Ram was a 2017 1500 5.7 Litre Hemi. Three years later i traded up for a 2021 Ram 1500 Classic Warlock. I love the Ram trucks. All my friends drive Chevys, Fords, Toyotas.. I chose not to follow the crowd buying the Ram Truck. These are heavy duty trucks that get great gas mileage on the open highway 21-23 MPG. Not bad for a Big 8 Hemi!

2016 ram with the 5.7. 113000 miles as a daily commuter - 70 miles round trip every day - and I hit 20+ MPG. And then I tow a 6500 pound camper too. 8 MPG when I do but I’m never the slowest in traffic. The engine simply keeps going and going

I had a 2016 RAM Sport. I just traded it in because I had cam/lifter failure. Cyl 5 misfiring. Definitely not header bolt issue (went through that 3 or 4 times with this truck). 185k KM on it. 4000hrs drive time with 40hrs idle. Oil changes done when truck told me to. No idea about oil quality. It was done at several different shops over the years. I am now driving 2023 RAM 1500 5.7L eTorque. I am going to be changing my oil every 8k KM, with Valvoline full synthetic. Lucas oil additive every 2nd oil change. I am also going to try and idle a lot less. I also purchased 5yr 200k KM extended powertrain warranty. I was pretty gun-shy about buying another HEMI vehicle, but the RAM dealer offered me top dollar for my trade in, even with the failing engine and gave me payments that I could live it - even if it's for 8 years. All in all, I'm happy in the new truck. Lots of creature comforts that my old one didn't have. Just now have a truck payment again.

I just bought a 2021 Ram 1500 Sport with the 5.7 Hemi today….it’s my first truck and I’m super happy with how it drives and I haven’t even towed anything yet. The torque at high speed is super responsive so I’m curious to test the low end power to see what it’s got. I’ve wanted a 1500 for the past 12 years and it’s the first vehicle I’ve ever owned that I feel completely confident I made the right choice.

My intake manifolds went at 35k miles on my certified 2018 pre-owned. Dealer said it is because of where i live on the East Coast Tri-State area Shore area salt water. I pulled up 10k videos on KZbin of the issue and said next a lawyer will be contacted. Suddenly 20 minutes later service manager comes back and says everything will be covered under warranty with a loner lol.
