Rocks will always be the pinnacle for Aerosmith. Such a perfect hard rock album. Every song on that album is amazing. Combination is easily my all-time favorite Aerosmith song.

Nobody could come up with kick ass riffs like Joe Perry. He is right up there with Iommi and the Slash took the torch from Joe but Joe continued to keep riffing. Great guitarist. One of my all time favorites

When I was a kid I had all those Aerosmith records, loved this song. At that time I didn't appreciate what a great singer Steven was because all I could hear is Joe's guitar playing. He's the reason I learned to play guitar, he was my guitar hero. My first song was Dream On. I'm still dreaming and have had a lot of fun playing guitar over the years. It was very cool to hear Joe sing lead on this song back then too, and even more cool to hear him again all these years later. Thanks Joe!

I like how Sinbad gives him proper respect as a Rock Star, a dying breed. There are only a few real ones left! They’re like the Siberian 🐅 Tiger. Rare and if you see one you’ve seen something special. Joe Perry, Keith Richards and a few others. But they are getting rarer than Hens Teeth! God, I love this song! It’s a deep cut from Rocks! One of the Greatest Hard Rock albums of all times! I don’t care that he’s not a great singer! It’s a great song! I forgot my name! And the Great Brad Whitfield who is so understated that he doesn’t get half the credit he deserves. They are great together and always were. Now Johnny Depp? I like him. Excellent Actor! What he’s doing on this stage, I’m not entirely sure about. Living the Rock Star Fantasy out, maybe? I tell you he’s much closer to it than you or I will ever get! He’s on stage jamming at least. I’m not going to say anything negative! Rock on, Johnny! Go for it!

Same reason David Lee Roth sings instead of Eddie Van Halen, Gregg Rolie sang instead of Carlos Santana, Robert Plant sings instead of Jimmy Page, and why Ted Nugent SHOULD have someone else always singing for him! Guitar virtuosos may write great riffs, but they need someone who can sing to convey their ideas--and guitar heroes are usually bad singers

Its for show. Much like Elvis Presley's guitar, Donnie Van Zant from 38 Special, and Kevin Cronin from REO Speedwagon. Just a prop to make them "look" like they're playing, but actually other guitarists are doing the work
@impalaman97073 жыл бұрын
@Nelson Robert Willis I never said KC was a bad guitarist--I just could never hear him over the thunder coming from the right of him onstage! Like his guitar wasn't plugged in at all, and he was just going through the motions out there with the guitar in his hands, because Gary was doing all the work for him
@impalaman97073 жыл бұрын
@Nelson Robert Willis But obviously you don't disagree with my assessment of Donnie Van Zant. He had two other guitarists doing all the work--38 Special always looked like a crowd of bikers on stage (two bass players, two drummers, three guitarists, etc)

I think Joe Perry is giving us a 1975-76 "twofer" here--the first melody sounds like "Uncle Salty" from "Toys", and then he launches into "Combination" from "Rocks". Both filler from the respective albums, and pretty inventive the way he put the two together, but its a treat you won't see Aerosmith have anywhere near their live set lists

I find most great lead guitarists make horrible lead singers. Have you ever heard Jimmy Page sing? You probably don't want to! Same with Eddie Van Halen, Carlos Santana, Keith Richards, Jeff Beck. There are a few exceptions--I've actually seen Neal Schon from Journey sing with Jan Hammer, not too shabby. But by and large, they write the riffs, and they just need let their guitars do the singing!
@impalaman97073 жыл бұрын
@Nelson Robert Willis I always thought Donald Roeser was Latino--he reminds me of Cheech Marin. Speak of REO Speedwagon, you also don't want to hear Gary Richrath sing! I did out of curiosity, one of the deep cuts on the "Ride In The Storm Out" LP (yuck!) However, Neal Schon from Journey is surprisingly good, heard his work with Jan Hammer--makes me wonder why he never sang lead before!
@impalaman97073 жыл бұрын
@Nelson Robert Willis kzbin.info/www/bejne/bn-9kImgmsl5n6c To me his singing is like an out of tune Leif Garrett. When I bought the album back in 1981, it was the first track I went to because on the back it said "vocal by Gary". And I said, "hmm, never heard him sing before. I wonder what he sounds like?". Then I realized why he never sang again. I didn't know about the other songs he sang from the Mike Murphy-era, and that's another sore subject. I don't know what they were high on when they brought in that loser after Kevin left the first time. His croaky voice was so bad, no wonder Gary had to rescue him! I think they realized the charisma they lost when Kevin left, and they had to go back and listen to that second album, and realize the formula for success was right there in 1972, but you notice you never heard from Mike Murphy again, and he ain't that country singer with the same name, either!
