I leased a ‘21 Lexus IS350F back in August and my biggest complaint by far is the mpg I get…. I’m averaging 20 mpg at best(pretty responsible driving) and it’s fucking annoying especially since the car uses premium! Hopefully when my lease is up in 2024 the price of a 2018-2019 Model S will be more affordable and I’ll get a used one. Gorgeous fucking car!

Yeah that’s the problem with the weight of those luxury cars (Lexus). They’ll never be gas efficient. Even the RX models don’t do well because they’re heavy

do you have 75 or 75D? how is your battery holding up and how many miles you got in two years? Thanks
@HalfIdeas4 жыл бұрын
I have a 75D. I was driving about 2 hours a day for the first few years but it's been much less. I've had it just about 3 years now and I'm at 23K miles or around 7.6K miles/year.

Wait I’m confused doesn’t the browser and video streaming only work when you pay the connectivity premium of 9.99 every month, does it not work even with the connectivity premium on an older model ???
@HalfIdeas4 жыл бұрын
I do have the connectivity (I don't pay monthly) but prior to the update of the MCU the web browser worked very poorly. Streaming music did work but not streaming video. I made another video on upgrading the MCU and explaining this a little further. kzbin.info/www/bejne/hYiQaWh6j6p8npI. If you get a 2017 Model S, I highly recommend doing this upgrade.

Since I purchased the car in 2017 I've had zero serious mechanical issues. A door handle got stuck and the service dept. fixed it. That's it.

When this YT was made, and the car was charged to 100%, how many miles did the car say its range was?
@HalfIdeas Жыл бұрын
It was 235Miles of range today (2023). The car max when sold was rated at 259 Miles or range, so approximately 10% reduction over about 6 years. Note that range is very dependent on temperature and how you drive so I would expect that I can get closer to 245+ in the summer.

Good job explaining all the features and how they work etc. during your ownership. I am up in the air as to which model to choose. I was thinking about a 2017 model S because I do need a hatchback. The Model Y is having so many problems with fit and finish and the car dying after a few hundred miles or so? I thought I would like to have FSD in the car, even though it's not fully functional yet, but I don't want to spend $10k for that. So I thought about buying a used Model 3 that has it already? I guess I will wait a while to see how quality control gets resolved? You would that Elon would order the maintenance department who fixes the robots that build most of the cars, to get adjusted so that panels and lights and such are being installed correctly so that customers don't have to take it back to service for repairs. That has to be costing the company a ton of money? Anyway, thanks for posting your video on the 2017 Model S.
@HalfIdeas4 жыл бұрын
My wife is thinking of getting the Model Y - so if that happens I'll do a comparison. I still drive the 2017 model S that I've upgraded with a new MCU and FSD. Still a fantastic car. Side story, my Model S was effectively free. When I got it I decided to finance it with Tesla for very low interest rate and I used my cash to buy Tesla stock instead. It was a 48 month finance but the stock did so well that Tesla basically paid me to buy the car.

Fantastic video. What: your max range you get these days?
@HalfIdeas3 жыл бұрын
Thanks. I don't usually fully charge the car... it's sitting at 200 mile range daily and when I do fully charge it's around 240ish (approximate). The battery seems to be in good shape and this is in line with what I've heard of around 5-10% degradation over 5 years.

Web browser doesn't work? Theater doesn't work? .... for a software company that REALLY sucks
@HalfIdeas4 жыл бұрын
See my followup video on upgrading the MCU. kzbin.info/www/bejne/hYiQaWh6j6p8npI The point you make is spot on, software features shouldn't get worse. This is a problem across Apple, Microsoft, Tesla and others.
@BrandonCurrerOfficial4 жыл бұрын
Those problems are via software on the Tesla model S,3,X,Y. Theater mode and search games on teslas our software related. older models couldn’t even support autopilot and much less most of the features now presented on newer models. Only hardware 2.0 and newer are powerful enough to run a lot of these newer features which takes up a lot of processing and power.

Great video! My 'Toofless' is a Model S 75D too and driving it (if only for short distances) is fantastic. Here in Hong Kong range anxiety doesn't exist. Instead, "supercharger anxiety" exists because most EV owners do not have home charging, so the superchargers are frequently used. We have over 12,000 Tesla owners in HK and a handful of popular superchargers.
@HalfIdeas3 жыл бұрын
That's super interesting, thanks for sharing! I heard Tesla opened a new supercharger factory so hopefully the number of stations will jump over the next year or two.

Great overview on the 2017 model S. Thanks to your video talking about the differences between the new Model Y and 3’s CPU I was in the process of purchasing my 2017 Model S, I asked my Tesla rep about the capabilities of the newer CPU and the Netflix, etc... He said for around $2,400 they can swap out the old CPU for the newer one that are in the 2018, 2019 and 2020. So I will be able to stream Netflix now🙌🏻

This is like Apple when they keep coming out with new updates on iOS and that makes your older version iPhones or iPad to not comply with up to date technologies. So that being said you gotta keep buying a new vehicle to keep up with the up to date modern technology . Elon musk is smart in his business and he knows that the money flows will always come to his way .
@HalfIdeas Жыл бұрын
Perhaps. I've now had the car 6 years and it works just fine. I'd consider the new model S but unlike iOS I think the upgrade cycle may be closer to 10 years rather than every year or every other.
