I have a 2018 Tesla S with 130,000 miles. All has been great. The only unexpected maintenance is broken door handle retractor motor (ice storm in Buffalo). I've lost about 10% battery capacity -- but seems normal for the miles. Free supercharging for life is sweet.

I have a 2014 P85D, and it has been a little bit of an adventure - many of the front suspension parts wore out (struts, 1/2 shafts, and more), and I did the MCU2 upgrade, but I must say… the Recaro seats really are fantastic, the sunroof is lovely, and the whole experience does feel like a $120k car, rather than a $60k one. Whew! I’m not sure if I’ll trade it soon, but what a cool product. Perhaps a Lucid is next? 😮😊❤

This era of Model S was truly the peak in quality. The Ravens might be the absolute best. You can snag a 16-18 refresh Ludicrous S for less than half the price of a new one. A much better value IMO. There are a few common issues like the MCU upgrade and air suspension, but nothing that I would consider a dealbreaker. The max charge speed on the pre-Raven models is around 155kW, so that is the biggest pain point if you're a big road tripper. The 100 pack is still much better than the 85/90 when it comes to degradation.

I have watched all your videos with your old model s. I loved that car. Really made me fall in love with Ev / Teslas. I am a frugal person. Always looking for a deal. Never like to pay max pay for anything. I just bought less than a month ago a 12/17 model s 100D. 39,000 miles. Fully upgraded to HW3 and MCU2. New seats premium upgraded. It was a salvaged title out of Texas and bought in Omaha Nebraska. It was brought through high voltage testing at Tesla and passed before I bought it. When I saw it I just thought about would Kyle buy this. Am I crazy buying this salvaged. I got a really good deal on it. Far less anything comparable than I could find. I keep telling my wife that this car is teslas sweet spot. I had to jump on it even though it had a salvaged titles. I researched the wreck and it was really just light front end damage no air bags deployed. Sill has tires and wheels from the wreck with no damage. I just found this video talking about these model s’s. It was 38k out the door no dealer fees. I feel like that is a good deal. Any thoughts @outofspec

Sooooo I have a 4-5 month old Tesla Model Y Performance, and when going over uneven terrain such as turning into someone’s driveway that’s higher or lower than the road, so the whole car kinda twists like a twizzler, I hear creeks and basically just hear the car flexing, I kinda thought that was normal? That maybe every car did this but you can’t really hear it cause the engine, or maybe cause my car is new and things should get loosened up, then I hear my seat creeking if I move my body around to get comfortable and that was just painful to buy such an expensive car, and to hear that, absolutely crushing, and I not once thought THAT was normal, but I did expect it to either go away as again I loosen up the seat so to speak, or go away as we start to get out of winter, along with the other sounds of the car, things being hot and more easily moving hopefully fixes all my noises, at least the seat please, anyway, what I’m trying to say is, the car flexing sounds aren’t normal? Should be solid as can be with not a single creek? Should I send it in to get fixed or will I be told it’s within speck?

Tesla before than was better, I don't think so now hearing how they've finally figured out the stupid design flaw of the yoke steering wheel was dangerous and not meeting up to road standards for other countries and now has options for the simple traditional steering wheel which is what I like to see.
@SpottedSharks
@SpottedSharks Жыл бұрын
I liked the yoke fine when I first got an X, but after a long road trip I freaking love it. Never going without one again. A yoke would likely be problematic if you like performance driving, but I never do that. Overall, the anti-yoke hysteria is way, way overblown.
@BusTrainsGuy18
@BusTrainsGuy18 Жыл бұрын
@@SpottedSharks Yeah, the only reason I'm saying its not a good idea is because I live in the UK where people can't drive properly without a traditional steering wheel, and certain countries that's in the EU won't allow it so I prefer to stick to what I think makes sense I get what your saying but you live in the US which makes sense over here we prefer less problems and less accidents to be honest which is why I'm glad Tesla has come down to earth to see the reason that the yoke has caused problems for some people.

There was a recall on the 1st gen MCU because of their failures. I replaced one in my 2013 MS for which I was later reimbursed. Did the owner of this get the money from the recall? I had the Michelin CROSS CLIMATE 2s on my 2015 Chevy Volt, I took a 15 - 20% range loss. Insanely quiet, and excellent In the rain and snow... But I had to sell them because of that range hit.

Great vid. Have a 100D dec2018 build with now only 35000mls due to corona and homeworking. The lease is coming to end dec2023. Really like the new ones too, but think I will just buy mine off and drive it another 3 to 4 years. It’s a Silver Metallic a color no longer available in full option on Arachnid with sunroof, FSD etc.

I have a 2016.5 (refresh) 75D and have loved it. I don't understand why Tesla won't give up on the stupid yoke without stalks and put more emphasis on interior materials and quality. I also prefer the opening moonroof that I have, versus the fixed glass roof on the new models. Such a shame to see them squander their lead.

Interesting to hear “great build quality” even associated with a model s. I’ve seen and heard common problems like panels coming lose way more often. Though for the most other part no one has complained about the car breaking down.

The most stupid part is that Tesla has been making SnXs less premium, but the fanboys kept pushing the idea that those cost-cutting non-senses are more premium.

Have a 17 S 100D with FSD purchased from Tesla back in December 2020 with 41,000. Upgraded to MCU2, and it's like a new car. Drove a new S and you can tell where Tesla cut corners to save weight. I did like the swivel screen function. Suggest Chris try the Pirelli PZero All Season Plus Elect tires. Super quiet, and appear to have good tread life so far. The nice thing about the OG S is the 19 inch tires are all the same size, and are more reasonably priced when time to replace. Kyle, tell your Dad that I feel his pain when taking the hit on his S at Carmax...

Me too on 2014 P85 now 127,000 uk miles since new in 2015. Just so nice to drive and quick too 0-60 in 4 seconds and pin sharp steering. Ive driven all the Teslas get back in mine and the rest feel like the cheap seats. I specked sunroof delete so there is just a lightweight black panel up there.I have rare twin chargers so fast 22kWh A/C charge when available/needed. Took the plunge and spent $$ on MCU2 and 4x v2.5 door handles. Cant see ill ever get rid of my Pearl white / black 19" wheels free supercharging P85......... these RWDs MS are the well kept secret in the Tesla world.

I'm mixed on these, love the old gauge cluster with those widgets and kW reading, but I do not prefer portrait at all, I think landscape is the way to go. I don't understand why the quality went down so much, from my understanding it's the same production line in Fremont making these so what happened? I'm torn on the stalks and wheel, I think the new interior looks better but might be a bit less functional.

I have a 15 85, single motor. 150k miles, drives like new. Form Scan my Tesla I can see it lost around 9% in the battery. AP1 is simple but never fails. Only drawback is charging speed. One big upside I'd free supercharging for life. I'll keep this until the wheels fall off...

My 2013 S60 with tech package is holding up well mechanically at 157k miles. Hardly any squeaks, no rattles. No sunroof because I didn't want any water leak issues. I bought it from a private owner at 54k miles in 2018 with CPO warranty that transferred over. Battery at full charge shows 173 miles which is about 17% reduction in miles but the car is actually efficient and uses about 282 wh/mi at highway speeds which is 184 miles of range. Of course it's had some issues. Main screen replaced (leaking) - warranty, emmc replaced - warranty, door handle - warranty, rear axle nuts - warranty, 12volt battery x2 -warranty and self replaced, PTC heater replaced diy, door handle harness diy, blend door noise diy, xenon bulb diy, rear gear oil diy. LTE modem Tesla service center. Front stabilizer links diy. Rear drive unit was replaced sometime before I got the car (later revision) and HV battery pack looks original. I've added open pilot comma which is great for lane centering and includes lane changing. No radar cruise but then again I don't have phantom braking issues. Next repair will be lower ball joints.

in my experience, its actually quite the opposite. My 2019 Raven Model X has a TON of rattles and creeks, but not to the point of driving me to sell the car at least. But my dad's 2022 Model S Plaid has no rattles or creeks, which was extremely surprising, even after almost a year of having the car. Our Mercedes S-Class has more rattles and creeks than the Plaid

Have you ever heard of Tesla adding a second onboard charger to increase the supercharger charging speed? I have a 2018 75D and the tesla tech said that sometimes he has see 2 48amp onboard charges for customers that do alot of supercharging.
@allterrainrandy2587
@allterrainrandy2587 Жыл бұрын
The on board chargers are for AC charging. Two ac chargers allow the car to charge at 20kW on a high power wall connector instead of 10kW. New cars only have one. Superchargers are DC charging, the chargers are in the supercharger, last I heard there was 12 (but that was back when they were 120 kW). The newer battery tech is what allows the faster supercharging speed.

Owned a 2018 Model S 100D that was the cheapest 'new' from Tesla, $69,100. Unfortunately we were in an accident in it back in November which totaled the poor thing. It was holding up so well, it had only 47,000 miles on it. Although I upgraded to a used 2020 Model S Performance, I still miss the 2018.

Na. The P85+ was. Rear wheel drive, great steering feel, great suspension setup and no autopilot stuff whatsoever. Not even 1.0. And a huge frunk because of the no AWD. I'm a driver's car guy. So actually no Tesla at all is a driver's car. But I think the feel of the Model S P85+ comes closest to at least a sporty GT.

Ok I have to say my story. 2016 MS70 facelift rwd. 153k miles around 10% deg on the battery. When was new I been told it’s 221 now it’s 198. Ever since I own it which os almost 3 years, had no further degradation and I got the car with 117k. Consumption is around 250-280. Available battery capacity is 60kv. It’s the best car I ever had. It’s all original parts even the carpet. No tittles ccs adapter enabled. I love the car !😎
