2017 Toyota Tacoma TRD PRO: Start Up, Exhaust, Test Drive, CRAWL and Review

Today we take a full look at the all new 2017 Toyota Tacoma TRD PRO!
This TRD Pro Tacoma is finished in Cement Gray, and we used the Barcelona Red model to demonstrate CRWL Control on the big rocks!
The exterior of the new TRD PRO Tacoma looks awesome with the lettering in the grille and all the black accents. The wheels have a nice look too, and the Fox Suspension in all four corners give it great off road capabilities with a comfortable on road ride.
The new generation Tacoma has a sleek interior with modern styling and technology, and these TRD PRO leather seats just make it that much better! I absolutely love the embossed leather in the centers of the seats and the shift knob looks great! The TRD Exhaust gives the truck a nice beefy sound and the chrome tip is tucked away so you won't hurt it on the trails.
Testing out 4X4 Low with and without CRAWL Control was very cool. You can see how 2 tires would spin since they had the least amount of weight on them, but once engaging the slowest setting of CRAWL, the tires that have the most grip all of a sudden start turning and the truck moves! Very impressive checking out some of the off road capabilities of the all new 2017 Toyota Tacoma TRD PRO!!

dilauroj94 I'd assume so, I'm coming from driving a jeep wrangler and this shifts way better than that did. there's a video comparing the TRD pros manual and automatic transmission, in the video the cheif engineer says the 6 speed in the TRD shifts different than even the 3rd Gen TRD sport and off road model. picture a fresh brick of butter and you have a nice butter knife that your gliding through the brick...that's how smooth it shifts, maybe even smoother than butter.

After our last Accord (an 07 V6 ExL) was not up to any Honda Standard and after talking to too many owners of the same that had many of the same concerns we did, lets just say we will be sticking to Toyota form now on.

Gibbet Hoskins owners have reported that although stopping distances may be a little longer, the drum rears last forever, well over 100k. If it ain't broke, don't fix it!

Dan Wells.. I have gotten well over 100K miles service from the pads on my front disk brakes on most of the vehicles I have ever owned, if you don't get at least that out of rear pads you need to get yourself to a driving school to learn the proper way to drive and come to a stop. Drum brakes add a lot more stopping distance, that is a fact. They are also more work and cost more money to maintain and keep adjusted due to the fact there are more moving parts involved. But the largest drawback in a truck like this made for going off road with rear drums would be the fact they can easily get filled full of mud that is a vehicle stopping event, as they are not self cleaning like disk brakes, or like the disks used on my 14 year old 4Runner! And this very expensive Toyota truck should have the best technology one can buy for what it costs, as in it should have had rear disks ffs.

It's an intentional design. They preform better in wet / mud conditions. With a split you get the best of both worlds.

Reminder to the Millennials: This is not a sports car, adding disc brakes to the rear isn't going to improve anything over tried and true drums. And why stop at wanting unnecessary rear disc brakes? Why not add HUD, turbo, adjustable height air ride suspension, heated blinker switch, and what the heck why are they not coming equipped with an auto inflate/deflate tire system?

Imperialism.. Drum Brakes are not "more durable". As a matter a fact drums brakes are less so because they have many more moving parts that need maintenance and are prone to fail, come out of adjustment and become very inefficient at braking with age and mileage unless that maintenance is done. They are also prone to getting full of mud off-road (Disk brakes being open means this can't happen) that will eventually stop a 4wd vehicle in it's path if not fixed pronto. If anyone besides Toyota bean counters think that drums are so great because they are saving money on each truck they produce by not putting the best, why would Toyota put them on the on all 4Runner, Land Cruiser, Sequoia and Full-size trucks? Just ask any mechanic which brake system is best on a light truck, and they will tell you it's disk brakes.

These cars will last long with preventative care maintenance. Yes it is true they do have rear drums but they are easier to clean and makes it easier to cut the rotos and clean off all the residue from the break pads. I am a technician at Toyota these cars are gems

hayden holub the 3.5 is not the issue. It's the transmission. 3.5 has better power and acceleration but the 6 speed isn't tuned right. Hopefully it changes in coming years
