Nope, the pedals of the bike are connected to the back wheel tho (fixed gear), so they can slow down there pedaling to slow down.

wei cheng lim they dont want to stay at the front and take all the head wind which consumes so much energy so they surge and then drop back to keep energy for the final laps

At 7 laps I would have set my set in fire, I reckon if I had the funds I could burn more than half these pips. I work 8 hours shift on my feet then deliver food on my tri and then go ride hard af around town with hills. Almost daily literally hungover but not from drinking but from cycling

Yeah you probably would burn have these pips and and feel pretty good about it. Then you would wake up.
