2017 Volkswagen Golf Alltrack oil change

Basic oil change on a Volkswagen Golf Alltrack. Mostly the same as any seventh generation golf with the addition of the skid plate. You will want to reset your service reminder light. Here is a link to an excellent explanation on how to get that done.

The Castrol Edge oil used here does not conform to the VW 502 / VW 504 specification, which is shown both in the owners manual, and a small sticker in the engine compartment. There does exist a Castrol Edge 5w-30 oil product that meets these specs, but not the one shown in this vid. Just FYI. Thanks for the instructional vid, regardless.

Thank you for the information. I looked at the bottle and checked the specs. The oil I used does not meet the VW standards. I have removed the link and will post a new one when I have the correct oil.

I was just thinking the same thing. It’s kind of a pain owning a Vw/ Audi having to always find the Vw standard on the jug. Then again, I own an atlas, Alltrack and an 03 Audi A4 and their worth the pain. Lol

I have not measured the exact amount of oil that drains. It fills a five quart jug plus near a quart in the next jug.

Glad I found your video. This will save me some money. I just picked up a 2018 Alltrack, so far I like it, but I had question for you. I've noticed that after taking my car for a drive, the engine seems to get very hot after I lift the hood, although the temperature gauge shows normal. Just wondering if this is normal for these cars? Thanks

Thanks, I happy you found it helpful. As far as the heat off the engine. I have found the Alltrack to be really no more of less. Then any other turbo car I have owned. On par with my GTI and TDI. Thanks again for watching. I hope you enjoy driving your Alltrack as much as l do mine.

I had my friend use his scanner to do a computer code check, and we were surprised to get a P046100 Fuel level sensor "A" circuit range/performance code, although I had no engine light. When I looked it up, it sounds serious. Do you have any knowledge of this

Such a terrible pan and plug setup. Can’t wait till I replace mine with an aluminum pan with a normal plug. I just replaced my oil at under 2,500 miles of use and the plug was already leaking a little bit on to my pan. I’d also like to recommend stepping up to a 5w 40 too the engine seems to like it more if you’re past 50k miles

I am not a fan of the plastic pan. I have seen steel replacements but not aluminum. I have been using the plugs made by Doorman. They seem to leak a little bit less. I am at 220k and the 5/30 seems to be doing ok. Last year I did start using 5/40 for the spring oil change. Growing up everything got heavy oil in the summer and light oil for the winter. Not sure that matters with synthetics.

I have just kinda lived with it. The factory drain plug was a bit more worrisome to me. I may have been told by my vw guy that those all seep oil too. So I started using the Doorman brand ones. So far I have good luck with them.

i took my car to VW dealer about leak from filler cap and could not figure out why ? they said its holding the pressure as it should. nothing abnormal. i asked them to change PCV valve and i pay for it. they said no need.

Change every 5k or you'll regret it... I send it without the skid pan the engine likes it.

Why would the engine like the skid platting removed? What is regrettable about an oil service beyond 5k?

The car is fine at 15k. Never had an issue with any of my Vw/ Audi cars with full synthetic. Maybe once they get older a more often change but not necessary if you’re on top of all maintenance.

I was thinking of replacing the plastic plate with a metal one-- then saw GTI s using the same plastic to protect the plastic oil pan. ( Don't come with one) IMO the plastic plate is sufficient.

When I bought the car. I considered upgrading to a steel oil pan. The plastic one seemed unsafe. I am now nearing 200k with that plastic pan. Only complainant is the drain plug can seep a bit. Now using drain plugs from Doorman and they are better.
