Anything with the top mounted oil filter you should always take it off the oil filter first because whatever is inside that housing is now inside of your oil pan contaminating your fresh oil
@joesixpak43404 жыл бұрын
Top Mounted Filter Procedure: ONE: Drain the oil pan - I'm old school so I remove the drain plug. TWO: "Crack" open plastic filter housing about a 1/4 to 1/2 a turn counter clockwise; any residual oil in the plastic filter housing will now drain DOWN to the oil pan and out the drain hole. THREE: When oil has finished dripping out of the drain plug hole, re-insert oil plug and tighten to specifications. FOUR: Now you can remove the plastic housing that contains the replaceable cartridge - have a few old rags handy ;-) FIVE: Insert new oil filter cartridge into plastic housing. SIX: Lubricate Plastic Housing O-Ring with Silicon Grease. SEVEN: Secure plastic housing according to specifications listed on the top of the housing. Hope that helps -

@TheNauseator is there a difference in that. Is pouring it out better?

I don't recommend using a pump to get the oil out of the pan. There's always going to be oil left over and most of the sludge sinks to the bottom. It's just more beneficial and less expensive to just pop the drain plug. It may take more effort, but you're doing it correctly. Edit: it's been a long time since I first posted this, I've gone back on my statement. Using those tools can actually get out more oil than using the drain plugs on a lot of engines, because the threads on the pan block a bit from draining. It's cleaner, harder to mess up, and really fast. Especially if your filter is on the top of the engine.

Clearly you haven't done it at all with a thought. These engines are designed so that the suction pipe goes into the deepest part and the pump literally leaves only few drops of oil in the engine. And if you have a pneumatic or electric pump, you end up completelly dry, aluminium shiny oilsump without almost any trace of oil. Majority of the european automakers doesn't even allow to open the sump drain bolt, if there even is any. My GTE Golf does NOT have sump draining bolt at all. It is meant to be drained with a pump.

Vw do this at their main dealerships and is an approved method and if you change your oil at the recommended intervals, you shouldn’t have any sludge in your engine.

What about resetting the dashboard message that says it's time for an oil change? Pretty annoying to be seeing that all the time, and then not knowing when it's time for the NEXT oil change. And oh yeah, don't belch on camera, it's gross.

why does it say 25 + 5 Nm on the oil housing ? why not 30 Nm ? Why +5 ???
@kenlawton15314 жыл бұрын
Because the filter housing is made of plastic you tighten it in increments, 25 first then another 5 after. Just so you don't overload the plastic housing and crack it. Just a precaution from the manufacturer.
@Aleziss4 жыл бұрын
@@kenlawton1531 thanks for the precisions, that is what I did, 25 then set at 30. I wasn't sure why not put 30 instead but it make sense no to stress the plastic ! Thank you !

The most beneficial thing from this video is actually hearing that rubber squeak at 10:35. Every other video I saw did not give me that sound, and it was very strange putting that cap back on. I wasnt sure if everything was right or not. Thanks Mitch!
@bennygreene14214 жыл бұрын
Be careful to not add more than is called for. The oil filler cap on VW GOLF'S clearly states that oil overfill can cause your check engine light to come on, not to mention its NOT GOOD to do so anyway.
@dosetti5 жыл бұрын
You should suck all the old oil residue from the housing too and replace the other 2 o-rings in the "thingy". Oh and there are about a handful petrol engines so it would have been good to say which engine you are working on.

Be careful about jamming that dowel coming out of the oil filter because if it breaks you have to replace all cartridge the whole unit.
