I’m actually looking at one of these now. And it’s going to be stock for maybe a week. Going for a stage 3 no crackle tune with a is38. Hopfully that is enough for 12 seconds in the 1/4 mile.

Good review. Said it before and will say it again: second gear, second gear, SECOND GEAR. You want a fun car for the city, that is THE thing to focus on when testing it because most of your time is spent at 25-50 mph.

Just bought a '15 2 door 6 speed and it drives excellent and seats are excellent. I agree I didn't want a tuned up with all kinds of gadgetry. Insurance is a little stiff for what it is.

I have test driven so far, five GTIs, MK6s and MK7s, all of them suffer from some sort of interior premature wear. Peeling liners, worn or torn seats, steering wheel excessive wear, center console wear, cracked plastics, etc. Am not saying trashed interiors, it is premature aging of surfaces. I did not find one that had an immaculate interior. I have seen older vehicles from other brands and the interiors look mint with no tear and wear.

I know this is three years later but, I love the look of this car. I like the white and that subtle red stripe on the front. I'm looking for a good, used car that gets good gas milage, automatic and will be a daily driver mostly around town for errands. I've retired and don't have the urge to modify my cars anymore but, this one doesn't need any modifying. I do have one question if you should run across this post again. I am a larger guy, probably about (maybe larger) your size. Is the driver's area roomy. As I won't be going on long trips but, I do need a certain amount of room. Also, how is the brake and gas pedal layout? In some smaller cars, my big foot will sometimes press them both at the same time as my foot laps over. Does the hatch door that covers the spare lock in place when lifted up? I know some cars have little "fingers" that catch the hatch door to hold it in place while you remove the spare. I thought I saw these fingers in the rear. Thanks for the great, thorough review.

Great review ,agree with you 110%.I currently have a the exact car you have here except mine is 6 -speed stick.(2017 also) I always had a Japanese car and was always weary of Volkswagen because of the reliability issues I kept hearing about . But the more I researched the GTI ,I found the same pattern . Most , not all ,were probably a result of the many modifications people add to these cars. I am not saying you cant modify these cars, but if you do , you are definitely opening up yourself to possible problems because of the tweaking from factory specifications. I am not saying you have to baby these cars. But if you continually tweak them and always push them to limit ,you are opening yourself up to possible problems ...drive hard ,,,pay hard..There is a car detail channel on youtube and he bought the exact same car here and was putting up videos of all the modifications he was doing to it(plus tracking it )...had all sorts of problems and was wondering why...its not rocket science

What would you recommend modding on the GTI?
@deflep0072 жыл бұрын
@@LacrossePunk20 Its basically up to you. That's why a lot , not all, people buy GTIs because there are so many mods you can do to them . Just remember , not just in Volkswagens, but in all cars , the more modifications and tweaks you make on any car ,you are opening up a can of worms for possible problems
@LacrossePunk202 жыл бұрын
@@deflep007 most definitely 👍 I had a Caliber SRT4 with some mods and a tune and it was a lot of fun but I'm getting older and want a refined daily tuner car. I'll probably get the Injen Evolution cai and maybe a tune down the road.

Lies. The mk7 and other VW cars in the last 7-8 years are miles ahead of previous year's reliability. I've had a stg 1 ecu tune for 45k miles on my GTI and never seen a check engine light. Don't live in the past when it comes to you preconceived opinions of 15 year old VWs reliability.
