I have 2015 Golf SE TDI.. I was able to get the handle off after mangling the clips. Bought an new grab handle, and for the life of me cant get it installed. No idea on what the trick is to get it working.

They are almost just as hard to get fully snapped back in because the metal plate bolted to the roof wants to move as you press them back in. Very frustrating design. After 17 years of doing bodywork I have had enough of over engineered stuff and retired from body work and now work for myself.

When placing the grab handle back into the roof rail make sure the metal spring clip is centred exactly in the middle. Like the diagram at the start of this dudes video kzbin.info/www/bejne/bnjPko2kpdN2aJo. Both the “upper”and “lower”wings of the metal spring clip have to be fully engaged otherwise the grab handle will be wobbling when you pull down on it. You won’t be able to get the final plastic cover tabs fully seated either. So insert the grab handle into the roof the best you can, get a good flashlight and pick tool and use them to push and centre the metal spring clip. Hope this helps. Being somewhat flexible doesn’t hurt either.

The visor grips literally turn 180 degrees and pull down.
