"Dudes, what gun has more accessories than the Glock? How about holsters, sights, trigger options, magazines, magazine extensions on and on the list goes... lights" first thing comes to mind 1911 but you know I doubt you can find a 1911 for about 500 bucks that's good quality.

Love my Gen 4 G17. It was my 1st handgun bought a year ago and it's been outstanding. 1300 rounds through it with ZERO failures or jams of any kind. I've run brass FMJ and JHPs, Blazer Aluminum, and even hundreds of rounds of Tulammo steel cased stuff. Done 2 defensive handgun classes w/ the G17, (shot 550 rounds in last one) and it's always come thru for me. It's my home defense gun w/ night sights & a TLR-3 light & I do sleep well knowing it protects me & my roommates!

My primary carry, for every day use, is the Gen 4, Model 23, Glock 40 cal (mid size.) I also have then Gen 3, model 22, 40 cal. I think the gen 4 is easier to aim, but have no real problems with my gen 3. I absolutely love Glocks. In a situation of potential legality, I trust my firearm to perform as needed. The ergonomics make ALL the difference in the Gen 4. I love this video.

Thanks for all your videos. I have benefited from all your work. They are my favorite gun reviews no doubt. This however is my first comment. I believe the proven track record of the gen 1,2,3 series pushed the problematic and controversial gen 4 through to any sort of success. Mess with a proven recoil spring? WTF? Holy smokes! A downgraded quality wise extractor??? I hated the fact glock felt the need to engage in the current "changeable back strap" trend. You skipped right past the most negative change in the new glock, the trigger assembly is now changed. and will not work with prior gens, IMHO you owed it to your viewers to take this assembly out of both gen 3 and 4 and compare, and notate any differences therin. The safety is better? Not!! Now the mags situation is clowdy and confusing a bit. The grip texture saves time? How about a 3inch chunk of bmx bike inner tube?? If the whole gen 4 plan was to get me, a loyal glock fan to purchase an entire new line of the same pistols I already have, I can appreciate the marketing idea, but now I can only live in the classic world of the good old days of Glock simplicity and small block chevy interchangeability. Please keep up the good work on your videos. This was just the first time I felt you were, for a lack of better words, biased, by old faith, to push through an unproven and at first a problematic design. I'll wait the 25 years to see if it was a good change.

@Patriot3612 жыл бұрын
Hey Nutn, not sure if anyone already mentioned this but 21:08 there is no back strap to remove. That's just the naked grip. Also, it doesn't "slide" on and off, they simply overlay the grip. I've always referred to it as an "addable" backstrap as I believe it describes the system a bit better. In any case, great review buddy!

Your glock 19 is a Gen 2 not Gen 1.. Gen 1 Glocks did not have the checkered pattern on the grip. Only the 17 and a very small number of 19s were ever made in Gen 1

Average distance in real defensive situations is said to be about 7 feet. If you need a full size auto and a 17 round mag ... which are fun to shoot ... you are shooting offensively, not defensively.
@AirForceAce357110 жыл бұрын
true but what if you're the exception to that stat? or you have multiple attackers. wolves travel in packs often times and 6 or 7 rounds may not be enough. Also you may have an opponent who is a "high dedication individual" (i.e. drugged up or plain crazy) so you may need more there. It does also depend on whether you're talking a concealed carry gun or a home defense gun. If CCW then smaller guns make more sense b/c you're going for compactness, lightweight, concealability etc. But for Home defense where it's gonna sit by the bedside, why not take a bigger gun with more to grip onto, a longer barrel (more velocity for the round, plus longer sight radius and thus easier to shoot)? no need for sub compact gun in that scenario. My CCW gun is a Walther PPS 9mm which holds 7 rds (I also carry spare mag) but my HD gun is Gen4 G17. but that's just my 2 cents, your milage may vary.
@corax201210 жыл бұрын
AirForceAce3571 I completely agree! I grew up in the Alaskan bush ... there are times when fire power is important! A Glock 23 is great for carry ... 13 rounds (the 22 rnd mag is nice, but sticks out) ... will eventually get something even smaller. For HD ... depends on the mood and what's already not in the safe, but 45 +P is always good for close encounters. Oh, yeah, don't forget to keep your hearing protection by the bed as well! Wow, in an enclosed space you can feel your ear drums meet in the middle of your skull, and you will get to watch people lips move for an hour. I love it in movies ... they will have a raging gun battle in a house/building for 10 minutes, then be whispering to one another. :)
@AirForceAce357110 жыл бұрын
agreed and a .45 is a good choice. Yea firing a gun indoors is gonna "ring your bell" quite a bit and can cause hearing damage. Having electronic hearing protection is a good idea. those will allow you to hear people talking to you, allow you to hear other noises, while protecting you from the gunshot noise. Or, it's also a good reason to have a suppressor on your HD gun if you live in a state that allows it. It'll reduce recoil and also protect your hearing.

So 37 minutes to say that you would pick a Gen 4?I find a lot of videos informative but I tend to loose interest if you don't get to the point on some of the subjects. Also the $425.00 price tag is only for the Blue Label Program. Unless someone is Military, Law Enforcment, Security, or Fire Fighter/ Paramedic they do not get that $425.00 price tag. Glock only offers that for the Blue Label firearms.

If you want to see whether the new recoil spring system actually does tame some recoil, get yourself a Gen 3 Glock 20 (non-compensated) and a Gen 4 Glock 20 (again, non-compensated), load them up with the same ammunition (full power from Underwood Ammo, preferably), and then fire them one after the other to see if there is an actual reduction in felt recoil.

@artonethree12 жыл бұрын
completely agree that, if this is by design, I like the fact that I don't have to take the extra step of grabbing the slide or pushing the lock release...unless, it's an indication of a weak spring that could keep the slide lock from engaging on an empty mag. I asked Glock in an email a week or so ago, but haven't heard back.

I have a gen 4 Glock 19 made in 2013 with the updated spring and ejector, and still get consistent erratic ejections and BTF. Limp wristing isn't the issue, I have shot a gen 3 and only this one has given me these issues. The spent casing has a slight triangular scratch on the top which , from my research, indicates that it may be hitting something it shouldn't on its way out instead of having a clean ejection out to the side. I have about 650 rounds through it and still have this problem. Glock sent me a prepaid shipping label so I am going to have to send it to them, and from what I have read on with other people with this problem, it may take 2 or 3 times sending it back before the problem is fixed or the gun is replaced completely. Anyone with any suggestions would be appreciated. I know that most of the newer Gen 4s are good to go , I must have gotten a lemon. It goes bang every time, never had a FTF but I did have a stove pipe but I had released the mag before I shot the last bullet for some reason and that's the only time it happened. Also the slide failed to lock back after the last round twice, this only happened when I filled the mag with 10 rounds instead of 15 although it could have been my grip. Almost wanted to give up on Glock after hearing this issue is present in many newer Gen3's as well, but I love the midsize so I decided to see if they could fix it before I bought another brand. Sending my 19 in today or tomorrow, wish me luck.

I am definitely a fan of Glock, and that's because time and experience has shaped my opinions. I've had the first generation Glock 21 for almost 15 years now, shot more rounds through it than i could ever count, and on occasion beaten it up a bit (though always cared for afterwards!). It's still firing with everything original (night sights notwithstanding) and has yet to jam on me, which I find to be astonishing. I've taken care of my Glock, and it's taken care of me.

When you showed the PG-GP mag extension, the proper specs are +2 for .40, +1 for .45, and +3(not +2) for 9mm. The +2 for 9mm is a different model with out the extra gripping surface. Total capacity is 20 rounds for G17 using the same PG-GP...not 19 as stated. Just an FYI for anyone who is looking for mag extensions.

The Glock 19 is obviously one of the most respected guns ever made, to many enthusiast it is "the standard" all around pistol, big enough to be a duty/comp gun, but small enough to get by concealed. That said Nut has mentioned he has very large hands so I suspect the 17 is more comfortable for him. When carrying concealed he tends to like smaller and thinner guns than the 19. In other words he likes two dedicated instead of the 19 compromise. He does praise the 19 at about 10 min in though.

I really didn't think I was going to like the Gen4 Glocks, but I had the opportunity to trade a XD40 Sub-Compact for a like new G22 Gen4 and I fell in love with it immediately. With the medium backstrap, it feels great in my hand. My Gen2 G17 doesn't feel nearly as good.

Either way I like my G17 Gen 4. Personally, if you can't decide on which version to get, it's OK to get both.

Out standing revue as usual ! I was a 1911 man for 20 some years "U.S.M.C.brain washed" built em , modified em , accessorized em, yada ,yada,. Picked up a used Gen.1 Model 23 and never looked back. In my opinion it's an outstanding combat handgun. I look forward to buying a Gen 4 . Gunny

On the new Glock generation 4's I don't like the texture on the hand grip it is too rough, but it doesn't really matter because I put a Hogue rubber grip sleeve with finger grooves on my Glock 21SF. I know someone of you guys don't like the finger groove that is already on the pistol grip. For me it helps me perform better. The Hogue rubber sleeve pistol grip allows me to have a better grip, it improved my accuracy.

I have been carrying a gen 2 g23 for about 18 years. Trijicon night sights is the only mod. Zero malfunctions ever out of a few thousand rounds. I think a gen 4 g35 is in my future. :)

Thanks Nutn for the awesome review! The Glock Gen4 G22 was my first pistol, purchased it this past January. Great gun, no issues of any kind. I was also wondering if you by any chance were planning on doing a S&W M&P Shield review I'm looking at the pistol for EDC when I obtain my CCW, Again thank you, and your family for the time you all spend on the project.

I have owned a glock 19 gen 4 since 10/05/10 and have had a total of 5 failures (none that I can attribute to the firearm itself, mostly weak ammo) Right now I am somewhere around 2300 rounds on it, and that number is climbing quickly (I shoot 100 rounds a week now). I still have the original recoil spring in there and have only detail stripped and cleaned it twice (every 1k rounds). Honestly the greatest pistol I have and will ever own. The 19 is the perfect sized pistol, from IWB to IDPA.

My Gen 4 G22 is using a Ghost 3.5LB connector, have never had a malfunction yet. Your right, when they say that it drops the LB of pull down to 3.5, frankly it doesn't. realy it might drop the pull by .25-.50 LB, but its main purpose is to smooth up the pull, there's nothing worse then the stock glock triggers ( in the combat handgun market that is.) The connectors help the "gritty" feeling, if you want to drop the pull LB, then simply replace or the striker spring, or the Plunger & spring.

We had a "lethal ladies" shoot locally and these were featured as one of rentals. Great guns, but I LOVE my M&P! Thanks for a great Review Nutn.

I don't think the double captive spring is too much of an issue in the Gen 4. Both my SR9 and SR9c employ the same design and they run flawless for me. The big thing that has me considering a Gen 4 G17 is the fact that when I punch it out, it's not pointing at the sky like the previous gen does. That was, and is a deal breaker for the Gen 3. Not so much for the Gen 4. It's that grip angle change. It's not much, but it's just enough. If I can't point it instinctively on target, it's a no go.

The G 22 had the same problems with the guide rod it was easy to fix. I called Glock the asked for the serial number they sent me a new one. I mailed the old one back. Great information in your video.

Glad they got the issues worked out. I ended up going with a Gen 3 Glock 19 for my CCW and combat piece.

No, you the consumer have to acquire one, although GLOCK is producing a extended version of the mag release, to be placed on Gen 4 competition models I.E. G24,34,35. I picked mine up from glockmeister for somewhere around $8.00+Ship. dropped it in my Gen4 G22 myself, It saves time when changing mags.
