Yamaha can really style a bike. I've always been a gsxr fan but Suzuki needs to take a lesson from Yamaha for their future bikes, styling wise.

I have one, it's a lot of fun. I couldn't open up my CBR 1000rr up very often outside of the interstate whereas on the R6 I can bang through a few gears. Makes absolutely no power under 8k RPMS and all the fun happens between 12-16k. It's also surprisingly more comfortable than the CBR was. It's easily the second best sounding bike I have heard in person behind a Speed Triple which i also own.

@Metallica21317 жыл бұрын
Great review TMF! I think the lack of low down power can be partly attributed to the Euro 4 strangulation - don't get me wrong the R6 has historically been a top endy bike that loves to rev, but 44Teeth did a back to back comparison of a stock bike and one with a full exhaust, de-cat and the rest of it, they reported the latter much better down low. Something to consider I suppose if you were considering purchasing - an extra £2k for those bits!
@TheMissendenFlyer7 жыл бұрын
....isn't it a pain when you have to spend significant cash on a bike when you've just bought it - I've yet to buy a bike where I haven't though!
@HalfdeadRider7 жыл бұрын
Give it a bit more torque by changing the sprockets too, for most of us losing 20-25mph off the top end will not matter at all, but the extra poke throughout the rev range would be very nice. I'm guessing by "and the rest of it" you mean an ECU remap witch would help too with a nice bit of extra power and tourque.
@Metallica21317 жыл бұрын
Halfdead Rider Indeed, another tooth or 2 on the rear sprocket never goes a miss, a lot of bikes are geared a little long stock. (That will present the need for a speedo healer however). And yep the tuned bike had either been remapped or power commander installed (don't recall) and a performance air filter I believe. As TMF said it would be a pain spending a chunk of cash 'finishing the bike off'!
@HalfdeadRider7 жыл бұрын
If you have the cash it's a must I think, everyone who can should get an air filter, exhaust and tune, even on your car, petrol or diesel. Diesels respond really well and a tune can give better mpg with more power and touque. As for the speedo healer, it would depend on how far out it goes whether I went for one or not, it's easy to test, I done it on my 125 (can't get healers for as far as I know). I put my phone on a mount and used a gps speedo, the changes are probably quite a difference to a bigger super sports bike. My speedo is only out like 1mph low speed and 2-3mph at top speed and I went quite extreme, from 43T rear to 50T rear and to bring it back just a little I went from a 13T front to a 14T. I could only get a 50T rear in black and I wanted that to go with the gold DID chain :)

So many people are so quick to bag 600s but they'd probably be better off on a 600 over a 1000. 1000s are way too much for the street and so damn intimidating on the track if you're really having a go.

I totally agree with you Mr. A 600 cc 4 cylinders in line with 18k rev on clock is more for any legal road can take it. Will never let you down in therms of power on any road. Is a fun 600 cc mini rocket to play with.

I adored my R6 (first of the new shape 2006 and for my money, better looking than this one). As you say, most comfortable sportsbike I've ever owned, absolutely bonkers past 10krpm (you were changing at 12k, if you love the sound wait til you hear it at 16k), no power whatsoever below 7k (I had many a moment like you did where you pull out from behind a car and nothing happens....then it eventually explodes into life). Sold it for a new shape 675R. Amazing bike, but not as comfy and dare I say it, not quite as exciting with the more linear power delivery, even though it's a much faster bike. Looks like the R6 has been strangled more so with Euro 4. Nothing a full system won't sort though. It says a lot about the R6 that I still think about it while owning a 675R...

If it interests you, I had an 899 too at the same time as owning the R6. I loved it, how could you not, but for the road, the R6 was miles ahead... So many variables in these things though. Nice review, have been looking at the R6 when I get back on the road. You must let me know where you ride; I love the sound of these "unrestricted" areas ;o) Low power low in the revs sounds ideal, especially in SE with lots of slow roads/traffic for the most part. I have noticed a few sport bike guys down grading to new 600cc bikes because 1000cc bikes are getting a bit silly. As a 600cc owner myself there is nothing like being able to give your bike a bit of welly even in the city, something you cant really do with a litre bike these days.

I love my R6 (mines in the blu) just waiting for the exhaust to come and then look at down pipe and a ecu flash. Euro 4 hasn't been kind this the bike tho, but thankfully we can decat and apparently it does wonders. Personally the rear break feels spongy too me,front is good but a set of brembo's wouldn't go amiss. As always, quality review. Your input please...seriously considering this bike after I get some of the rust off (back riding after career, family, etc) by doing track schools and putting a few thousands miles on my R3. Best!!

The way Yamaha build their engines to be high-reving is the reason why I'm avoiding them when searching for my first +125CC machine. They're not practical on the road and for the amount of riding I do. Torquey engines low down are where the fun is at! Great review though. Can't take away from the sex appeal of this thing!

All 600's sports bikes need to be thrashed. Common knowledge they only come alive from 8/9k on the rev range. You just have 2 blip throttle and knock it down a couple of gears rather than just one to overtake - no problems overtaking then!

So it's better than the previous R6? This new R6 engine in terms of it's much higher power band is a bit like the new Street Triple RS which also comes alive above 9k also with an addictive howl albeit a triple howl? It's a great pity that Triumph are discontinuing the Daytona 675R as if they did bring it uptodate it would really give the R6 a run for it's money. Not really sure what the best bike in this class is - new R6, previous gen R6, Daytona 675R, CBR600 Fireblade? What are your thoughts MF?

I've got similar RST jacket which if I use with gauntlet style gloves they seems to push them off my hands! Which gloves to you use?

I tend to use Sidi H2Out gloves - great bits of kit....must do a review on them one day!

There is a video of this guy who has a go on his friends bike, not sure what it is, but it has a modified engine and exhaust. Revs to 20k. KZbin 20k rev bike and you should find it :)

There were quite a few bikes that went up to 20k rpm years back, not needed though, you would have no power for most of the rev range. It would sound like you are going faster than you actually are too.

Hi mate enjoyed the review im considering the r6 I've had a 899 before is the performance anywhere near the same and I've heard the r6 gets hot 2 is it the same as the 899
@TheMissendenFlyer4 жыл бұрын
The performance isn’t as good as the 899 (not that far short) and it doesn’t get as hot as the 899 which cooks as you know....

I agree it's up to TMF over the "hi kids " catch phrase ! Although his reviews don't need a weird catch phrase because the reviews do the talking ! It's just a strange catch phrase when most of the target audience are adults , not 8 year olds ! But continue the good work with the reviews ! I'll just miss the first 10 secs off the review in future 👍

Are the 600 CC bikes still cheaper than 1000cc? Or would I rather get a 1000 since the cost are almost the same

What does unrestricted mean when you pass that sign at 2:18? I thought that the UK didn't have unrestricted speed sections?
@TheMissendenFlyer7 жыл бұрын
+RealPerson Well its not technically unrestricted- the sign with the black chevron just means "national speed limit applies" which on a road like that is 60mph - effectively it marks the end of a speed limited zone....
