I had my bike tuned recently (2 weeks ago?) by Anthony at Bauce Racing, and he told me he does the raised idle rpm at 2k rpm to help with other things too. It also helps with getting moving from a dead stop, smoother down shifting, and better engine oil cooling at idle. Bauce Racing FTW! :D

What I didn't like about the R6 was the reach to the bars. At 5' 7", it was long and meant I was looking up to look forward. This tired my neck after a while. I also didn't like the way the gas tank trapped my wrists in a parking lot tight turn. Coming from a naked bike this worried me. I loved the sounds. Loved the power. Loved the brakes and suspension.
@RTK1715 жыл бұрын
The cold start issue is Exup manifold. It's closed off the throttle so cracking the throttle a touch opens the butterfly and bang it starts. Exup works like having two exhaust lengths on the bike the Exup opens for high rpm r and closes for low rpm. If you push the clip ons forward and bring them up on the fork legs or put a 1inch riser on it makes the bike feel longer.
@emudshit6 жыл бұрын

The reason for the power band is that it has 4 cylinders each 150cc so they are not big enough to produce the low end torque and power they need to be revved high as so they can make the power.

When i bought my r6 a couple days ago the salesperson addressed the startup issue. He said it had to do with the throttle body being larger and to not give it gas like most people and instead just let it do its thing.

The power issue is what I love about the r6. When I was beginning to ride I Wouldn't hit much more than 7000 rpms so low power was good for a noob. But as I felt more confident I got my rpms up jeez the thing can fly. Really nice bike tho imo

Just wanted to say that I love your videos and you’ve helped me along in my beginnings as a rider and owner of an R6. I have the flat black 17 and cause of your videos I’ve too went the JLD triple function tail light and turn signals, smoke out of course. But because of this I have to disagree with you about the tails of our bikes. At least in the all black. They are beautiful and sleek looking while also looking very race like and functional. The tail of the bike is what really made me want to buy it, and the uniformity of the bike overall in black in what makes me love it. Great video, I loved it and appreciate your opinions and views and love watching your progression with the R6.

Hey Motonosity, my 2006 R6 also has the cold start issue. I just do the double key switch on-off now and it catches first turn when starting up. A lot of people have theorized it is some sort of fuel priming issue. That’s why giving some throttle will also get it started.

I think both the power delivery, and the cold start issue are just part of the new Euro 4 setup. They have to run these engines so lean now to pass.

I have a 2018 R1... 1 and 2 are still issues (I don't have risers yet either though). I just bump the gas a bit when starting and this may change when I tune it. I'm considering getting a bench tuner to mess with it myself. 3 Mid range power pretty decent on R1 even before a flash. How this will change once I delete the cats and baffles remains to be seen but I've read that the tune really helps the R1 in midrange. I disagree with you on the tail. I love it. I bought the R1 to commute so I'm going to experiment with clip ons and risers to get some more comfort. Also will get a larger bubble windshield because the risers will push my head up exponentially all the highway.

I can't say my R6 has had that cold start issue, but I live in NZ, so could be a fair amount different. I know my killswitch is a single on/off/start switch instead of seperate on/off and starter buttons like yours. With getting down in a tuck, you gotta push your butt back, and on the 2017, it goes WAY back. Like I'm 6'1" and can only just get it back there and it feels like I'm completely horizontal. One thing that I hate, which is probably just bad luck for me, is that I've had to replace the oil level sensor and I've got an air intake temp sensor on the way to be replaced. All under warranty, but still kinda sucks. Oh, and cruising on it can suck. When you open it up and it's trying to rip itself from out underneath you, that's when it feels comfortable! Hahaha I'd recommend adjusting the clipons for your wrists though. I did that and it helped. I also hate how easily black bikes gets dirty XD

My R3 has the same cold start issue. I'm pretty sure it could just be a motorcycle thing. I had a friend with a FortyEight and that did the same thing. Also, pretty much half of the comments are saying they have the same thing in multiple different years of the bike or even different bikes like that ninja 300 guy somewhere in the comments. But, I'm considering getting the R6 but I really just want to jump to the R1. My main concern is the weight of the R1 and practicality of having that big of a bike for daily commuting.
@johndimarco48946 жыл бұрын
Cold start is no big deal just need to give it a little throttle if need be. The back of the bike is beautiful I love the tail wings and the brake light. I find no issue with the seating position. However I do agree with the power band it’s just the way the engine is tuned. I love everything about the bike both performance and looks, think it’s the best looking bike on the street right now. Btw are you keeping the rims Blue it looks a little off with the white wrap.

I was in between between an r6 or an r1. I commute around 60 miles a day from somewhat suburbs to the city and up until now the gsxr 600 was great for that because of how comfortable it is. It's so true, what you said about the power band on most (if not all) supersport 600's, nothing-nothing-nothing-BAM!. It's weird, because the way it hits you at 10000+ rpm and up to redline makes it feel much faster than my naked 900, even though when I've been doing pulls next to a cbr600rr the acceleration is almost identical. Once we hit speeds of over 110 mph the 600 starts pulling ahead, but between 40 and 110 we're neck and neck. However when I ride that thing, his 600, it *feels* like it's much faster even though it really isn't.
@jakobwest48116 жыл бұрын
mannybianco that's something I've definitely noticed on a 600. It *feels* really damn fast. That's why they call 'em crotch rockets. It really does feel that way. A 1000 just feels effortless. The cross plane R1 goes so fast and you barely feel it.
@alexbarker48326 жыл бұрын
Quinn Dang pretty much nailed it. The SuperBike and SuperSport are built & tuned for for track riding where you are almost never below 6k unless you screwed up. With that said, some manufacturers produce more linear power curves than others. For example, the CBR600RR engine is far more linear than the YZF-R6; the R6 motor has nothing down low, but it blows past the CBR up top by about 10 HP. How the motor is setup internally (bore, stroke, timing etc) will have all kinds of effects on power delivery vs rpm. It is always a give and take.
@a96531926 жыл бұрын
mannybianco hop on a Daytona Power comes on way earlier than other 600s because of that triple cylinder design
@Hellsknight6756 жыл бұрын
My Daytona is much more linear with the power. That being said mid range torque is really good and doesn't leave you feeling like you need or want alot more but max speed is much lower than the 4 cylinder 600cc bikes.

Don’t know much about bikes but what allows him to shift without a clutch?

Well... What I hate about this motorcycle is that I cant ride it yet. Im gonna have to ride on a 125cc for the next 2 years which Im very thankful for because Im 16 years old. But still I will have to wait 4 more years until I can ride something over 48ps. So be happy with what you have ;D
@dehCremus6 жыл бұрын
Then you don't want to live in the Netherlands! We begin on 125cc's when you're 18. Then when you're 20 you can ride bikes up to 61HP and when you're 24 you can ride every bike... But if you've ridden up to 61HP bikes and you've got that license for 2 years. You can ride every bike when you're 22. I know... it sucks..

Try gearing down a little to help with the low end torque.

How tall are you? Interesting to hear you say you think the bike feels small. I have an 05 and the updated body style from 06-16 seemed huge to me. I'm fairly short (5' 7") and I could barely touch with both feet on the last body style. Seems like a good fix for short guys like me.

Shifting?? What do you have installed on it to not use the clutch?
@jacksonneylan1965 жыл бұрын
He's got a quickshifter on it. But you can upshift on pretty much any bike without using the clutch if you know how.
@jackgreen56014 жыл бұрын
I had the same thing with cold starts on my first bike, a ninja 300. It's caused from the lack of fule in the system/fule pump, the fuel backs out toword the tank just enough to lack in the first crank cycle. This is usaly due to the engine cooling and other factors.

Why you dont use the clutch man? its not necesary to up marches?

New comment on a older video so I probably won’t get a reply... but I’m going to get my first motorcycle soon and was looking at this one. Would it be a big mistake to get this for a first one. I’m not childish so I can stay pretty slow while I learn and won’t go crazy. Thoughts?

i would suggest the 650 over an r6 for starting out in the 600cc range. it can go fast and you can cruise on it. it has enough power for highways and to pull away from cars. i ride an R1 and i hopped on my buddy's r6, i rode faster on the r6. the r6 likes to go fast. just my two cents.
@raywinstead25715 жыл бұрын
yeah man if it's your first bike, cause i have a 2018 and it a dream it likes to be run hard in the corners but is forgiving. check out the riding modes.

@TD402dd6 жыл бұрын
The R6 is a tiny bike being only one inch longer than the R3 (with larger tires). The R6 was never developed as a street bike like FZ-07, FZ-09, etc. They make huge midrange without so much top end.
