@brennick7647
@brennick7647 2 жыл бұрын
@@zachv1035 As long as you’re responsible with it, and exercise some caution ( especially when first starting) it’s not a bad idea. It has a lot of power to give so treat the throttle with respect and show some restraint. it should all go well. Now as far as a “first bike” it’s great in the sense you won’t grow out of it. Some people ride a 600cc bike and never upgrade, and tbh that’s completely rational. The R6 will handle whatever the road throws at you, and then some. But if you have never ridden a motorcycle in general or a sport bike more specifically, I would not make the R6 the first bike you ever ride. It is relatively light in terms of super sports. But the R6 particularly has a more aggressive riding position and a very reactive throttle. If your comfortable on bikes already, and have a Grasp on the basics of riding The R6 is great, and if your set on a 600 the R6 is the way to go.

Just do it. It will rapidly increase your reflexes and you'll be amazed because it really has excellent handling characteristics. 75 mph feels like 40 mph on it. I've only been up to 135 mph on mine and it was still pulling hard but I got scared and shut it down. It can get up there so fast you don't realize it. I knew I was travelling in excess of 100 mph but I was shocked to find I was doing 135 mph. Things were flying by me though pretty freakin fast when I think about it.

@@nomadben Hello nomadben, I've since bought the bike and within the one month I've owned it, I've ridden it about 3500 miles. I've hit the top speed a good amount of times and have really given it the guts in the twisties, scrubbing off the remaining chicken strips my friend left behind and seriously pushing the bike to the limits. The fact I'm still alive is very likely a miracle in itself but I would hope to say that in this mere month I've owned this 600, I've progressed an impressive amount as a rider. The growth may not be as drastic as being a complete noobie on a 250, but I think I have what it takes to tame the beast

I had a SV 650s as my first bike years ago. Its what I always recommend to people for their first bike. It has a very linear power band. No surprises when you are accelerating hard. It has enough power to keep up with faster bikes anywhere but the interstate. You can also turn it into a track bike when you finally buy a faster bike. Lots of people track them so its easy to find information and parts. Its also just a great bike and lots of fun.

Legendary Loso both times I went down were in my driveway. The bottom of my driveway is gravel and when I pulled in at a slight lean, the bike just slipped out from under me. The second time I crashed I was coming down my driveway, it’s like 1/4 mile long, and hit a big rock, about the size of a softball as I was rounding a curve. Same thing happened, the bikes front tire washed out from under me and I ate shit. The r6 is super tame at low rpm so if you’re smart it can actually be a decent beginner bike. Now mine feels slow af and it’s only been a year

It's all about the rider, not the bike. A squid will wipeout on a Honda Grom or Ninja3, but I've known guys not even old enough to drink that behaved responsibly with liter bikes as their first bikes and never crashed them. Sometimes the more powerful bikes are easier to ride in a responsible fashion because those torquey engines let you short shift them.

The most important lesson you learn about driving fast vehicles is that it's not about bravery or raw skill or reckless abandon, it's about restraint. You have to be able to predict the future like a fortune teller as though they weren't scam artists. Scanning for gravel, oil slicks, inattentive drivers, cracks, potholes, corner radius changes constantly. It's about always knowing where the point of no return is and never crossing it. This isn't to say you can't own or use a truly fast vehicle, but you need to have the sensibility of Arnold in Terminator 2 scanning the road in his infrared vision to do it and come out alive. You need to understand tire grip, brake threshold, suspension travel, weight transfer, throttle control, and have all of your inputs trained to maximize each in any given scenario without conscious thought. Computers won't save you, either, those computers just allow you to go faster and faster before you run out of ability and it's too late for the computer to save you.

this is my 3rd bike, and i’m glad i waited. It’s truly great as a commuter and fun bike to putt around on, but i really did need a few thousand miles on a bike to build the discipline for this motorcycle. It’s painfully tempting with how smooth it gets above 8k rpm and the sound up there is just magical. Really amazing bike, but you need to be extremely honest with yourself about your limits. This bike *will* kill you, and i’ve had a friend die on an R6 when he pushed too far. Ride safe and enjoy this machine

Interesting that you emphasize the usable low end, when among supersports this bike has a reputation for having no torque but crazy top end power.
@bbman10pwns
@bbman10pwns 5 жыл бұрын
I think it's because usable != wheelie power. It's got enough torque to be a pain in the ass to putt around in a city at sub 30mph speeds, but it won't wheelie in say, second gear, without dropping the clutch.
@BigUriel
@BigUriel 5 жыл бұрын
I never quite got that argument. The R6 pulls like 500 if you keep the revs low, if you're buying it with the intent of keeping the revs low because it's too fast on the powerband, then why not just get the 500 in the first place?

I rip that thing full throttle all the time too, it's just about when and where, and perceiving what can happen, and what to do if it does happen. I'm no bike guy, but my personal reasoning is that if you want to learn how something works, you need to be able to learn on all its limits, lower and upper. If you can't handle a high revving engine that is not crazy powerful, starting on this is a stupid idea. Because you will learn how the bike handles at low rpm, but then once you reach the powerband you just die because you've never been on the powerband of a reasonable bike to understand what it means.

@@BigUriel SV650 is not bad as a beginner bike, and there are some other friendly 600cc bikes, and the sportbikes aren't that agressive untill you reach a certain rpm. But yeah the temptation is too big for most, so it's better to not test your own discipline right away.

I started on a R3 for about 8 months. Would have been longer but a coworker of mine purchased a GSXR750 for his first bike and I talked him into letting me ride it from the dealer to his home for him (as it was about a 25 minute hwy ride with traffic and I didn't want him to hurt himself). So, I had a buddy with a R6 who wanted me to practice on his bike first before I rode the larger bike lol. Met him at a park one night where we switched bikes and eventually took it on the hwy. Was amazed at how much faster it was over my R3. Just took a few minutes to get used to the weight and more aggressive position. Next day after work, I'm on my buddies 750 riding it to his place while he trailed me. Didn't take much to be going 100mph plus but felt nice. Ride successful, made it to his place in one peace. Next day (Saturday) me, him, and another buddy (who had experience on a 450 dirtbike) went out to let my coworker practice in a parking lot near his home. Before meeting them though, I stopped at the dealership I got my R3 from - left with a 2012 CBR 600 with about 4k miles only $5500. Trade in value for my R3 was just about what I paid for it since it was the same dealer. But anyway, never turned back lol. Looking back, the R6 still seemed slightly more intimidating than the gsxr 750 and my CBR for some odd reason. CBR felt a lot more comfortable and tamed in a way.

This is awesome. That was me many years ago. Everyone had 600cc or 1000cc so I bought an 05 r6 in 2007. It had frame sliders, nice exhaust, steering stabilizer and cleaned up turn signals. I pretty much never rode a motorcycle before. I drove a manual car and rode a dirt bike once around a friends yard but that was about it. My friend brought it home for me. Then we went out riding. Tried to do a tight turn a little into the ride and fell over (day one) lmao. Oh well it had frame sliders so no damage. A summer or two later I discovered that the steering stabilizer was turned all the way up. I always thought the bike was hard to turn and never realized that was causing the issues. I drove it pretty easy most of the time. Never wrecked. Usually didn't ride with people because they got goofy doing stunts Or it was too hard to keep up in the corners and I didn't want to push it. It was a nice bike. A lot of fun.

Can confirm, purchased new in 2007 R6 as my first bike at 21 years old. Rode dirtbikes for years and used exactly that excuse. Insanely intense and fast/scary bike with a couple of very very close calls myself and I am a pretty cautious person and rider. But when its 1am and no one is on the freeway all you can see is a black vortex ahead of you begging to squeeze the throttle and sink into the double bubble of trouble. 130mph+ arrives in the blink of an eye on these things. There are very few products in life which give you the exact expectation you desire before purchasing it. Because you cannot explain to someone the feeling of ripping up to redline in 2nd and 3rd gear on one of these bikes it's something they have to experience for themselves. You will remember the first time you do!!
