We, old Srilankans are very fond of Hindi songs because there was a period, in 1950s to 1960 s, from morning till evening we listened to Hindi songs. Hindi songs were broadcasted to south India form Colombo. Songs were broadcasted before the movie got released. Nowadays in Srilanka it is very rare we listen to Hindi songs on Radio .

I find this comment often written that no one can match Rafi Sahab's brilliance, which would be true, as everybody else would be an imitation. They are simply honoring his memory by singing his song, the singer par excellence that he was and the number of hits that he had delivered. Just like I do not expect Rafi Sahab to be singing SPB songs like SPB could. Par for the course!

I had the honor of introducing the legendary SPB in 1997, as President of Michigan Tamil Sangam...when he gave a musical performance in Metro Detroit... The year 1997, btw, was the 50th anniv of India's independence...and a gala event was also organized by ALL Indian associations at the Pontiac Silverdome (now sadly demolished! :( ) Greatly enjoyed this song too...and abv all SPB's humbleness that is quite clear here :)
