Next time you change that filter use a gallon ziplock bag and it will catch all the oil. Just used that technique today with my 2017.
@jakemason94363 жыл бұрын
Yup Medium ziplock and patience. Let the oil run into the bag when you break the filter seal from the housing. Works great. Doing it for years on my Ram.

Slip a small plastic bag over the oil filter before you unscrew it to capture and prevent any oil that will run onto your chassis and frame.

I always get my truck up and staged the night before. Then I do my oil when cold . I do not start motor. I allow all sediments to seep down to the pan overnight then allow to drain about 20 Minutes. I allow all dirt particles to flow out. This is why I do not do the 5 min oil change places.
@johngallagher70624 жыл бұрын
You should let the oil settle and check that dipstick before you start the engine, only way to know if you’re too low or too much oil added ...

I find it absolutely amazing how KZbinr's and forum keyboard commandos are so opinionated when it comes to oil and filters!!! In all honesty how many engines in the last twenty years have we seen fail due to an oil or filter issue? People have gone nuts! 😃. I used to work in a gas station and lots of people would change their oil once a year! No engine problems, no oil burning, nothing. After my initial break-in I went to synthetic only because here in NY it flows better in the extreme cold and I was doing a lot of cold starts every day. I had to laugh when you said "Fram" ... 😳. If you really want to see some people start pulling their hair out say that "Trump says Fram is the best". 😂. I'm going downstairs now and cut up about ten oil filters to see who uses end-caps and silicon flow restrictors so I can feel better when I trade in my Prius after three years. 😉

stuntcardriver - BTW my father used FRAM filters for as long as I can remember and never had a issue. I had a 51 Pontiac years back that had no oil filter at all and this old timer told me in the old days sometimes they would add kerosene to the oil and run the engine for a while before an oil change to act as a cleaning flush! 😃👍

ScoutCrafter... it is not 1950 anymore, get out of the stone ages. Fram is junk. They might not of been in 1962, but they are now. You drive a Prius, LOL, that tells me your "knowledge" of internal combustion engines is limited. Todays engines are nothing like they used to be... The methods of yesteryear are dead and gone, Let it go. Get with 2018 and the tight tolerances and sensors of todays engines. Do you really think when people have a issue with fram filters that they are going to notify you, so you can write it in your little history book? No, they are not... so, how would you know there are no issues with FRAM filters causing issues? Are you the filter God?? here is just 1 of many issues. > thefactoryfiveforum.com/showthread.php?11416-Critial-warning-re-fram-filters Copy and paste that{if you know how} Do your research and stop looking in your Encyclopedia's from 1972 for your answers.

Dead Nuts On. I generally dislike anecdotal stories, but here goes. My younger brother just got rid of his Corolla for commuting to work and it had about 260K and with no problems. I asked the secret to his motor longevity with regards to oil - he told me "I used the cheapest oil and filter I could find." (mic drop).
@CSXtrackworker5 жыл бұрын
You are a moron Xboob. If people have motor issues due to Fram filters it is due to them not changing the oil and filter when it is supposed to be changed. I am an ASE mechanic and have yet to see a motor grenade due to using one on regular oil changes. Fram has different mileage filters. Unfortunately bandwagon guys like yourself thump your chests because you take everything that is posted on forms as 100% truth. A good deal of time they are not. Do yourself and the world a favor. Don't work on your own car or anybody elses.

I've used cheap oil and filters for over 40 years now. Not one minor or major engine repair EVER from going cheap on oil and filters. I do my oil changes regularly and everything is fine. I have an 89 chevy 4x4 that I've never changed the break in oil yet since I built that motor 4 years ago and still works fine.

Mo899 was the previous 5.7 filter. I think they changed it when they went to electronic power steering because you can't get that bigger filter up past the electronic rack motor. Mopar filters are quite good. The old 4.0l jeeps engine would have wonky oil pressure with anything other than a mopar filter.
