Mine is arriving this weekend, can't wait!!! I will add the first thing I ordered was a wind deflector that stops the updraft from the forks. When I put my hand over that gap in a test ride all the wind buffeting stopped immediately. This was using a shoei adv helm

unfortunately installing the low seat is a bad idea, the bike is very tall and the ergonomics are designed for the original seat, the low seat doesn't leave enough room for legs causing knee pains after a while, if I could go back i would get the standard version, if you're not tall enough for the standard seat then go for the standard version..

Appreciate yet another excellent, in-depth review - I particularly appreciate your take on all the changes. While I am absurdly happy with my R1200GS, I am thinking about adding another model to my harem and this might be an excellent candidate overall - of course, I am quite curious about the upcoming KTM 790 ADV as well though 1st release models aren't always the best choice their first year so may wait a bit on that one before even considering it though it certainly looks to be ultimate, besting everything its class handily! This really is the BEST time for motorcyclists ever!

Great vid, I enjoy the quality of the production of your vids. Always a bit of a compromise when it comes to seat height, it does mess up the seat, handlebar, foot peg triangle with a lower seat, maybe lower the bars as well as the seat to retain that part of the triangle but then it maybe effect your standing position. End of the day no bike fits all and you have to modify to fit you.

Fantastic review! And thank you for answering my question, that is really useful, maybe a wind deflector then...however, from what you said, I think I need to go and try the standard one now, i will be doing a lot of commuting and city riding, so maybe a slightly lighter and slimmer bike would be a benefit, i would also prefer a top box too! Great channel, keep the vids coming, Cheers 👍

Still no cruise control and tubeless tires?
@DriveMagRiders6 жыл бұрын
Yes. Still no cruise control and tubless tires.
@Speedytrip6 жыл бұрын
You can still put tubes in tubeless tires if that worries you. I think these bikes should all have tubeless spoked rims. I'm pretty sure more people make flats from cuts or punctures than from low pressure going over a rock. With tubeless tires it's an easy fix in most cases with a plug. With tubes, you're in for 1h of fun on the side of the road...

Good real world review. The terrain looks like the sort of mix I need a bike to handle. Not really technical singletrack, but some fairly rough “roads”, much more harsh than a road oriented bike should be ridden on. Looks like the suspension did a really good job on those bumps. At my height, the standard Africa Twin is actually barely tall enough... I can put my feet flat on the ground with my knees bent, with the seat in the tall setting. So the taller Adventure Sports appeals to me. Yes, it weighs more, but that bigger tank is a huge plus for riding way out in rural areas, many miles/kilometers from the nearest petrol station. Great video, very informative, thanks for posting. 👍

If you have to choose between tiger 800 xca and AT As. Which do you prefer ?
@LO-xf2ho6 жыл бұрын
Lowered seat allows you to set feet on the ground, but it also shortens the distance between seat and foot pegs. So after a while you feel cramped. Also, your arms will have to go higher to reach the handlebar, tiring them. Don't buy a tall bike with lowered seat if you want to use it on long distances.
@michaelkeating73806 жыл бұрын
Been waiting for this review since your recent unboxing video. It's a gorgeous bike but realistically probably a bit tall for me. I'd need it as much for commuting as for recreation. Will wait to try BMW's f850 and decide between it and the AT standard.
@DriveMagRiders6 жыл бұрын
Good choice! Both are great bike. You can also consider the Triumph Tiger 800
@ashishdogra856 жыл бұрын
I am riding a 2017 triumph tiger 800 xcx and done around 12k kms in 10 months or so. I am getting the range of 375-380 km per tank on 19ltrs tank capacity with refilling of around 15lts . So I was thinking what Honda has done with larger fuel tank if the range is still going to be 400odd km . I agree with you regarding the windshield extension as tiger has pretty good buffeting and windshield extender is better choice.
@ridewyoming6 жыл бұрын
I'm 5'6" (167 cm) and the L2 is definitely too tall. I was afraid that even the standard model was tall but after test riding it in country roads and heavy traffic for an hour I felt very comfortable on it. I'll definitely get me one.

Good review. Currently considering this bike, with DCT and everything. Come from GSA LC (-16). I am a tall guy so the seat height, peg position and knee/leg angle felt great. I didn't feel the fuel tank was in the way, at least no more than one GSA. The windscreen was, as expected, fairly useless but I've yet to find any OEM screen that works perfectly out of the box. Fortunately Puig delivery a snap-on visor/spoiler that just might come to one's aid. The only downer for me is lack of cruise control. Do you, or anyone else, have any idea if Honda will supply a cruise control on the 2019? Since it's drive by wire it's more now a question of a software update, plus some hardware changes.

Go for the newer, mostly because of the ride by wire being more precise and smooth especially on the DCT.

You should do a comparison between this and the KTM 1090 Adventure r and this one. I tested the Africa twin 2017 (standard) and was very close to buy it but then i tested the KTM without even a consideration to buy one from the beginning and that did it. KTM for the win hands down and i love it. The more i drive it the more happy i get for choosing that.

Very good job in this video. Very clear. Thanks. May I ask you how tall are you and which was the seat hight on the bike ? From what I read, we are above 90 cm, and clearly not for short legs... I'm driving a 2018 R1200GSA with BMW low suspensions, not able to climb on a standard one, and I am pretty sure this Adventure Sports version is much too high in any case. What's your feeling ?
@DriveMagRiders6 жыл бұрын
I'm 1.74 m. I don't know exactly the seat height, but it was a low seat. But I am sure that if you can't ride a standard R1200GSA, this Africa Twin is too high for you. Don't go for the low seat, it can ruin the ergonomics. Try the standard one, instead.

2017’s are selling for a great deal as leftovers; is it safe to compare the standard versions of the 2018’s with that of the 2017’s? Is it worth to spring for the “latest-greatest, new-improved”
@DriveMagRiders6 жыл бұрын
Depends on what you need. Do you really need four riding modes and a 7-level traction control? I didn't ride the standard AT 2018 yet, to see if there's any suspension improvement compared to 2017. This was the biggest issue for me. A suspension that generates instability in the corners

I hate the single headlamp. It look's stupid and is more dangerous. dual headlights for low beam and then dual for high beam. Very simple. The human mind is looking for 2 headlights because that says"car" coming. 2 headlights will get the cage drivers subconscious attention whereas one is less likely. PS give me tubeless tires and a center stand as standard equipment
