I am 60 years old, owned 45 motorcycles, ride 30-40,000 miles every year for over 40 years, the 2018 Honda Africa Twin DCT is by far the best all around motorcycle I have ever owned
@AnyMotoUSA Жыл бұрын
I've had mine since 2018. Its a 2016, bought with 4k miles on it. Its feb of 2023 and has 95k miles currently and has barely missed a beat. Some fork issues (known problem, swapped in ATAS fork bodies to solve) and a misfire due to clogged air filter (fixed). Other than that, its used for trail, touring and daily rider. Best bike ever, ill never willingly sell her.

It’s a fantastic machine, Mark. I got mine new in 2016 and I’m still in the honeymoon phase. I ride off-road on technical trails and blast down the highway. It’s also my daily driver. It does it all. If/when you get one- enjoy ☺️

The CRF1000 is absolutely fantastic value for money compared to ANY other ADV platform - Tuaregs and T7s are all at premium prices. That exhaust sounds awesome. Reliability is no worry whatsoever. Massive luxurious load carrying mile muncher which can do sketchy terrain if you're really keen and able. Great bike.

You can get top boxes that have padding on the front for the pillion to rest back against. Givi are one example.

I have decided to sell my 2017 KTM 1090R and buy a 2018 AT. I do NOT like all the complicated electronics on the newer bikes and living in remote Colorado, USA there seems to be an infinite number of beautiful paved roads and off-road trails to keep a rider exploring for 3 lifetimes. Great video,. thanks for sharing!

I agree Mark the ATs do look great, the one down fall that they have is lower fuel capacity and shorter range. One of my mate had one on our ride from Bourks to Bourketown, he was only getting 240ish km fully loaded, he had 2 fuel bladders and was fueling up everytime we stopped. Just something to consider. Great Vid.

Hi Mark I'm from Port Elizabeth South Africa and I've had my Africa Twin since 2016 and absolutely love everything about the bike. I've fitted my Old BMW GS 800 top box which has a padded back rest and my wife sits back and almost falls asleep on long freeway rides. If you want I can send you some pics. Very easy to put on and remove from the bike. Sold my old DR650 and never looked back.. love your vids and been following your channel for many years now. Thanks for the great content.

Dont worry, the AT has an all black model for every year in its production. All Africa twins sold in Australia come with a center stand from factory. If it came without one, the dealer fkd up. Its a great machine that is well balanced and once rolling even at walking pace, the weight isn't an issue. As long as ypu can pick it up after a tip over its very capable offroad. Ive had mine for almost 2 years and I'm still smiling after every ride!

Interesting Mark. I bought the 2018 AT Adventure Sport and love it. But, now have a DR in my garage and selling the AT. Awesome bike and it will be sad to see it go but its all about the DR for me!!!

Well you've done it now. No going back it's time my friend to change and get one. You know you wanna lol. I must admit when I first got my AT, it felt daunting when I first sat on it feeling really big. But once I twisted the throttle and lifted my feet it all went away. Love mine. Shame you can't keep it just a little longer enjoying watching you enjoying. Keep on keeping on.

I have a 2020 DCT Mark and it broke my heart exchanging my Triumph Tiger but the fuel costs were way to high. Boy am I glad I did. Absolutely love the bike and it is a Black edition with Gold wheels to. I then had a go on a friends Triumph GT Pro a 2020 model where he informed me it now has the MPG fixed with a much better range and lowered centre of gravity I went out and bought a 2021 which is even better and as someone already said also comes in Black. After twice being ripped of by BMW I will never advocate that brand but I never advocate any brand. If the bike is good enough for the everyday man then get one. Any brand. The Africa Twin and Tiger 900 GT Pro are both more than capable bikes and adverts for how far bikes have come in the last five years. Most important for me though Mark is since I have owned these bikes my nagging back issues of many years have disappeared so I am going to love them anyway. Great vid Mark. Oh I use the Twin for Adventure and the Pro for Touring.

G,day Mark, like the look of the wood burner stove, problem with the little ones is you have to feed twigs constantly and they go out really quick as you don't get a good fire bed, think the bigger one is going to be a winner.

Mate I've had my twin since 2016 and over 70,000 ks so far, and have had a few off's on it and never broken a thing. I did have a DR650 before this and regret selling it. So I'm in the market for another DR, but definitely keeping my A'Twin for a while yet.. you won't regret buying one.. and if you're going to do a lot of two"up riding, maybe look at getting a DCT Twin. My wife has one and it's really smooth with two people on it.. food for thought..

Now that is a jump cut. Having a back rest, that is just how she got used to riding as a pillion, that feeling of being locked in... but unless you are doing something stupid the pillion doesn't go anywhere, but putting a bag back there gives them the same feeling as the rest. The Twin... can do the hard stuff just as well as the DR, you just got to get out of the showroom mode and just use it like it was built for. Knew a few 5foot nothings that rode 1200GS's, used to mount them like a horse, if coming to a stop rest arm on a tree, or do the dismount and roll and leg over to get going.

Turning the traction control up to mid level it will compensate for any over energetic use of the throttle and makes the bike so much easier to ride. Using a high gear off road on the AT too, it will reduce the loss of traction and make the engine run a lot smoother at low speed.

Soooo....I owned a 17 AT and while it definitely was a fun machine...it really wasn't the end all be all. It does have plenty of power and it rode smoothly for the most part but like most bikes it would benefit greatly from some suspension upgrades. Mine just wasn't all that nice off highway. She's a beast to be sure as well. I also didn't like how the seat kinda sloped forward pushing my man package into the tank......a bit uncomfortable. After owning one for 3 years I can honestly say I wouldn't have another....

If the T7 was around when I bought my AT I would have seriously looked at it. Stay Japanese! The BMW is fine but it's a different animal for a different rider. You've got your head screwed on right Mark, the bike is big and heavy so some riding adjustment is necessary but as you found out, once moving it feels like that KX80 you shoved into the tree in your backyard!
