2018 Audi A5

This 2018 Audi A5 Coupe was a service loaner from Audi South Austin. You can no longer get the Audi A5 with a manual transmission, which is a disappointment. However, it looks great in person! Something tells me I'd rather have the A5 Sportback, which is a 4-door version of this A5 coupe.

David M. Bmw service and maintenance are FREE for 4 years compared to Audi's is NOT! In 4 yrs it's a difference of over $4,000!! I'm currently an owner of a 2017 M240i convertible and it's awesome. Drove theA3 and its too small and cheap feeling and the A5 is Too big and lifeless! The M240 is JUST Right!

The A5 Coupe is an awesome automobile... Not everyone needs or wants to look at 4 doors all the time. The Audi line of automobiles is amazing, the engine/model selections are plentiful. Not everyone needs mega horsepower to go to the market and get their gallon of milk. Audi is doing a fine job of designing their automobiles!

I just ordered a 2018 A5 with a manual transmission, so you may want to change your summary above. The manual is NOT available in the sport-back - so maybe that's why you thought the manual wasn't available in the coupe.

I just got an A5 sportback coming from an A3. I think a lot of your nitpicking is ridiculous. Not once have I ever found the door troublesome to close. The middle console is perfect for the phone. It doesn't move around. The bottom is a textured rubber. Also that's where the phone plugs in via usb and the car even tells/warns you if you left the phone there when you turn off the ignition. It's an amazing car and imo much better than its competitor the 4 series. I do agree with you on why you would want the 2 door when the sportback is available however! Why not just buy an S5?? Because not everyone has an extra $10-12k to spend. That's why.

You do realize: 1. The front door on the A5 coupe is larger than the A5 Sportback. 2. The middle console sucks. 3. The 2017 A3 does the same warning message when the phone in plugged in and left in the car - it's just that I loathe having to plugin and unplug EVERY time I drive - not gonna happen. 4. The S5 will have the same issues, but more features. There are other 2+2 coupes that don't have these issues, so I'm not overly picky.

I agree on the door handle, my B8 driver side is much better to control, however the passenger side is like the driver side in this new one, and it does feel awkward.

I think you have a optional interior package that adds "better" interior material but also removes the flat bottom steering wheel.

I chose the A5 coupe over for the sport-back only because of the manual transmission option. Otherwise I agree with your attraction to the sport-back.

I noticed it has homelink buttons on the roof control panel. Does your A3 have homelink? I heard there was some issue with homelink on the A3. Cheers.

Homelink is available on Premium and Premium Plus A3 trim levels but not Prestige. The prestige trim has a camera mounted above the rear view mirror that takes up space that would be used by homelink.

They keep stretching their cars a couple inches with every generation. Only the A3 feels like a light nimble package anymore. Cheers.

Why not just go for the S5? I think the A5 Sportback is a better choice over the A4 and A5. But the S4 and S5 and S5 Sportback are harder choices to make because of their cost.

This is a surprising and overwhelmingly negative review of this amazing car. Many of the complaints you have are common in well-built coupes: large heavy doors, difficult ingress/egress from rear, etc. The place where you put the phone is ridiculous; there is a small (but usable) shelf for cell phone storage in the center below the climate controls. Who is this car made for? Me: young single guy with no kids or real responsibilities, who likes the dramatic lines of a coupe.

+John Ta Yeah, I was once a young single guy with no kids. And the coupes back then were better: they were lighter, cheaper, had a V6, and manuals were standard. Nowadays, it's all about the size of the GPS screen, the level of autonomous driving, and whether or not the seats massage my balls.

Surprisingly negative review of this car. Although it's a couple inches shorter in length and wheelbase compared to an A4, it should still be similar in driving feel. If there's a vibration while going down the highway, maybe there's something wrong with this loaner car. As to who would want this car, I would say me! I'm single with no children, and usually just have one passenger with me (if anyone). I think this car looks good, and I don't need a four door family car.
