Kululekani Makeleni exactly. The people saying this car is so boring etc. are as biased as one can get, either bmw or Mercedes fans. Audi’s design is very beautiful and timeless, only thing that gets boring is that all their models look similar, but you don’t have to buy an Audi every time.

Agreed! There's just a lot of "ME TOO" / copy cat reviewers clogging up youtube trying to out dooshnozzel eachother with hyperbole and too many energy drinks. They don't make up for their annoyances with knowledge but instead they take the over cut/over edited/annoying music approach, but then don't do simple things like buy a decent mic/polarizing filter. I have the 2016. I was looking to see a neutral biased critique of the new platform and body style, since it will likely be with us for at least 5+ years. He hit all the things I thought might carry over, and gave what I thought was an honest evaluation on this next gen A5. I found it very very useful, and something that could be counted on. The complaining guy didn't add much to the video/discussion unless I missed it. Great production quality and I appreciated the professionalism of this review.

As an S5 owner, I totally understand the screen up on the dash. It made room for a floating dash and tons of room for large double cupholders, which in the previous version (which I also had) were in the way. And now there is a cubby that is partly open to slide the phone in and out without it showing. Mostly because that screen moved up there on the dash. Now, they could have had it fold in every time but that is unreliable.

Have u ever driven the a5? I use to own the S5 and love the steering! Thinking about buying this and having it delivered to me. The q5 steering was kind of loose so I’m hoping the steering is identical
@Daurentius3223 жыл бұрын
@@summerbreeze5758 Actually I have test driven both an S5 and an A5 from 2019 the past few days and I really felt the A5 was just what what I was looking for, sure I have the money to buy both of them but it's not about having the most expensive car there is, sometimes less is more and since I do not live in a large country and everything is highly limited and monitored here, there is no point in buying an S5 unless you're the type who begs for confirmation from that 1 person out of 100s if not 1000s who thinks it's more posh to have an S5 over an A5. I ended up purchasing a 5 door A5 Quattro S Tronic from 2019, it has barely passed 9500 km and has the S5 steering wheel, S5 carbon dash, S5 rims, S5 seats and this car was ~30k cheaper than its S5 equivalent and don't even get me started on the huge difference in the monthly insurance rate so I'd say check with a reputable Audi dealer near you and just make sure that you know what you're looking for and that you do not allow yourself to be manipulated by some self righteous salesman, even the slightest doubt or uneasiness should cause you to not go for the purchase so just get your bearings right and check it out, I went in there with a very low expectation but left with an exceptionally high satisfaction, not only about the car but also the dealership itself.
@fabulouspoet2 жыл бұрын
@@Daurentius322 Totally understandable. There is a decent sound and performance difference, but you can make an a4/a5 as fast as an s4/s5 VERY easily. Audi did a fantastic job at making the entry level vehicles great.

Just bought a used manual 6 speed 2018 A5 Quattro with the S line sport package, Bang & Olufsen sound, and heated steering wheel upgrades. 14000 miles! A beautiful car. Your video analysis hit all the high points. Some of the negatives don’t apply to me. I don’t have the nav system so the cockpit display is fairly clean. One button makes it a minimal display which I prefer. Thanks for the thorough review. You have reassured me I made a great purchase. Also test drove a 2017 BMW 440i xdrive. Audi’s shifting was so much smoother, especially 1st gear. The A5 does not have rev-matching on down shifting. So a more true manual feel, if you know what you are doing! Thanks again.

"In the Shoppe with Turbowski" felt a little different than before: Scott came across as substantially more passive, less dominant. Probably has to do with it not being in his garage anymore. His casual apparel was also a factor. Though maybe its mostly from his extended absence, and he simply needs a couple videos to warm back up. Still, happy to see him back! One thing to note about the firmness - that might be because of the S-Line sport package. Default suspension is actually a bit in the opposite direction - more on the softer side, so bumps feel "wavey" as opposed to "shocking".

This engine has so many applications. I had a 2009 Gti with the newer TSI engine and I flashed it with an APR tune. The torque steer was so much that it tore away at the braids on my down pipe. In any event, I was amazed as I could torture A-5s and walk away from them at 150+ The manual for me was the best. So much bottom end torque made hills delightful. The cast iron block was meant to be boosted and seems like the industry standard for many VW / Audi applications. I think this is one of the best engines every made and the easiest to be modded.

Good review ! I have a Q7 and I could not agree more on the diagnosis you made of the user interface (which is the same one: the part about voice control is THE MOST FRUSTRATING THING EVER. You spend 80k on a car and voice control is not bad, it is totally, 100%, dysfunctional (PS: audi told me they'll rely on google starting 2018). The screen brightness: never bothered me and i'm quite sensitive to light. Having switched from BMW, i'd say: way nicer interiors with Audi, quieter cars, but voice command in beamers works great (here is doesn't, period) and they are livelier to drive. I would recommend those new gen Audis if you look for discrete luxury, maybe not if you look for excitement.

If you can get at least a 4-year extended warranty, that is 9 years of headache-free ownership. Their prices could look steep now but it will most likely be a life-saver. And remember extended warranties are always cheaper when brand new then purchasing it when basic warranty is almost over.

You will usually get 100,000 miles of relatively trouble free driving out of a modern Audi. If you do have a problem the warranty and service is very good. If you want to keep an Audi past the factory warranty GET THE EXTENDED WARRANTY. It is very reasonable. You do not have to buy it with a new car just before the standard Audi warranty expires. Only get the Factory Audi extended warranty. IF you keep any German car past 100,000 miles good luck. I would tap out at 80k or 9 years. There are allot of + 100k German cars out there. The reliable ones are still the minority. Even scheduled maintenance can be expensive. Keep all your maintenance records. The Unfortunate thing is ......well .....no other car under $100,000 drives as nice as an Audi. This is their time. They are the reference standard. I drove a bottom of the line 2017 A4. It is one of the best all around automobiles I have ever driven. There are no modern Japanese or Korean cars that drive as nicely. At any price point.

Then the ECU failed. It took 44 days, and, $3774.70 for the ECU to be sorted out. I drove it 7kms home, and the car died in the driveway. It was towed back to the shop again today. As of January 30, 2019: I have had the car for 186 days. 64 of those days, the car has been offline for repairs. 35% of the time I have had the car so far, I haven't been able to drive it. I have spent as much trying to keep the wheels turning, as I paid for the down payment. I hate this car with an absolute passion. I would jump for joy if it was stolen, or wrecked. I I owned two A5 Quattros. An 08 V6 5 speed M, first year, and a 09 V6 5 speed auto S line. The 08 had a beautiful pure black paint job and a Cinnamon Brown interior. It had a lot of little nagging problems. It was the first year of this model and as they say, don't buy the first year of anything. Liked the car, but the manual transmission didn't like rush hour traffic and the desert dust loved the black paint. Traded it in for the 09 with Meteorite Gray exterior and matching interior. Loved that freaking car. Even though it had an automatic transmission, that V6 was a beast. It drove better at 90 mph than it did at 55! Drive it at highway speeds and the gas mileage was around 31 mpg. But that was not always possible. Besides yearly maintenance, the only money I spent was for tires and alignments. Got married, had a kid and that damn child car seat hated the A5 as much as the A5 hated it! That was my favorite model of the A5. The newer ones look too generic. I love my kids, but I miss that car! Oh, I drive a 2015 Q5 V6 Quattro diesel TDI! Yes, the diesel that Audi lied about the emissions on. They had to reprogram the computer to correctly measure the exhaust emissions. Lost about 3 miles per gallon. Getting 25 mpg in the city and 33 on the highway. Don't know if l lost any horse power, rated at 260 and 428 lbs ft of torque. That thing will blast the doors off most cars from a dead start. And, it likes child car seats!

Only two things are that the screen does not fold away on the dash, I can live with as it is not too obtrusive. When it rains and the tailgate is wet as soon as you open it the water runs along the rear window bottom and splashes into the boot. I guess it's the styling so can live with that. Just open it a little until the water runs off before opening fully.

You can use google search by pressing the voice command button, say online destinations and then the destination you want. It works quite well. You can't use it like google on a smartphone. You have to learn the MMI. And when you do, it's quite impressive how intuitive it is. Why I think you are so impressed with this car vs. it's German rivals is because Audi put years of time and money into research and development compared to its competition. Every button was strategically placed with the driver in mind. From the simple, modern design of the HVAC to the ergonomic design of the shifter placed in from of the knob so you can rest your palm on it. It makes for a wonderful daily driver!

+1. Very nice review. .. The Audi A5/S5/RS5 coupe design will/has gone down in automotive design history; Its beautiful on the outside and inside. Signed, a former Audi USA MY95.5 UrS6 Kombi owner. From new a daily driver of ten years as the interior quality always impressed. The uber ski wagon . . Audi Quattro rules . . . .

Your car reviews are very good and informative. Said this before, Scott Turbowski ads NOTHING to your review.
@RickClifton4 жыл бұрын
WTF?!!! Turbowski is the Man... he's just a little jaded because he sees, first-hand, the kind of shit most auto manufacturers foist off on their unsuspecting sheep... I mean customers. That's why we appreciate Mr. Savage Goose so much. When he starts to pull his punches I'll go elsewhere - meanwhile, I come here to get educated. That's how I learned that connecting the upper-left ball joint to the 5-link snapinkrabbitz eliminates driveline lash and NVH in the superspension.

I've been lurking for a long time, have watched all of your videos a few times over, and felt inspired to post: This is one of the first time's that I've seen you very excited over a car (at least in terms of how you show it in your videos). Really makes me want to go try out an A5 -- I was looking into an S5 for a while, but was turned away because of the lack of 'standard features' for the price range (you didn't even get bluetooth audio for 38-40k on a used S4). This video flares up the interest again, because it looks like this would be a great daily driver (and would offer me something other than my noisy sports car). Happy to see your thoughts on it -- personally it would have been nice if we could have heard more about the quality of the radio (that would be difficult to replace in this car, and upgrading speakers is no fun in a brand new car, so it makes me more interested in the sound quality for this price range) as well as some of your thoughts on the cost of upkeep.

Audis are lease cars, dont buy. and if you value your money you wouldnt be considering audi (they would charge you extra for the windows, lug nuts, and hvac switches if they could)
@jamesmedina20626 жыл бұрын
Andrew Carson What did you end up buying? I hate the poor sound quality also in most cars and how hard it is to work on them. I want to check out the new Acuras and Lexus because as far as Acura (and Volvo too) they are doing nice sound systems in the commercials/advertisements.

+FixTooth Thats most german cars. I would never own most modern machines without an extended or a lease.
@mickwrinkles23187 жыл бұрын
Germany is very good in planning and designing obsolescent parts that will go wrong at a certain point, namely after warranty. But every company and every industry does that nowadays. Though we all know that there were products on the market that last a whole lot longer. The sewing machine we have is 50 years old, works perfectly.
@07wrxtr17 жыл бұрын
Yeap: Get one that's 24-36 months old/lease return, drive it for a few years before it hits 60k, then walk away! Another brilliant review, I like that you actually throw the cars on the rack and talk suspension design pro's con's. I'm still lost on a lot of the suspension theory: I'm guessing in the big picture, double wishbone is generally better but takes up more room/costs more than mcpherson designs.

I bought a 2018 A5 Coupe right before the pandemic started at a decent discount, and it was my first manual car in 20+ years. The dual clutch transmission sold it for me.

can I ask you for how much? I'm actually considering a 2018 A5 manual, it's 33900 CAD and 47k miles. They are so rare in Canada.
@danielrcoster Жыл бұрын
@@mortensenvick5711 it was on the lot for over 400 days and was USD 15k off msrp which was USD 51k at the time. Wish they still had manuals around when I purchased mine, but they were long gone. The one you found seems reasonable!
@mortensenvick5711 Жыл бұрын
@@danielrcoster Yeah yours sounds like a good deal :) I'm working on mine actually! Finding a recent awd 4 seats manual sportcar it's kind of hard (can only think of A5, ATS coupe, old 440i xdrive and the 911) I like the caddy very much, but the audi is the sweet spot for price and performances. I just hope for long-term reliability.

Wait until you take it in for it's 40,000 mile service. I bought one too. Do you know they changed their legendary quattro system on this remake? It's front wheel drive biased now. I've owned Audi's for 25 years and it now drives like a Camry. I ditched it after 3 months. The ZF Transmission 8 speed may be a slush box, but I'm hearing about a lot of tranny problems on these cars when they get up there in mileage.
