I have the Barnett Recruit recurve 150 lbs pull crossbow. Love it. Light, accurate, small, simple design and very manageable in a tree or ground blind. Unfortunately, they no longer make it. I suppose the Blackcat 195 lbs pull was its replacement. (can't cock this one by hand). The Recruit had the hollow stock which was awesome for carrying, or hanging on a tree limb. It shoots a 380 grain arrow at 235 fps, which is the minimum weight arrow for this model. Foot pounds close to 50 which is plenty for deer. I shoot heavier bolts with FOC in mind for improved accuracy and penetration, 450 to 630 grains. 200 grain cut on contact broadhead on an 18 inch 2216 with lighted nock will give you 19 percent FOC and a total arrow weight of 500 grains. Chronographed at 210 fps. This weight arrow matches a 3x Nikon Crossbow scope crosshairs and circles sighting system very well out to 40 yards.

Barnett is a POC. I had the Whitetail Pro Str and the strings were fraying each time I took more than 10 shots with this bow so I took it back to bass pro shops 4 times with the same issues. I ended up selling it to some chump on eBay and I took the money and went to recurve bows because they’re more reliable, dependable, and accurate. I got the Excalibur BD440 and that’s the top of the line across all crossbow manufacturers.

Have you guys fixed the string issue? My local pro shop advised me to steer clear of barnett because you guys manufacture your own strings and they have a tendency to fail. Sometimes even on the first shot. I love the new designs but safety is always first.

btjones1861 I've owned 4 Barnett crossbows and currently have a Raptor fx3 pro which I absolutely love. I started with a Raptor which I sold to my nephew he had a string break on him but we think it was because he loaded the bolt wrong and the string jumped the arrow ,the other 2 I've owned are being used by other family members with no problems , other than that I've had no problems with the strings. I honestly think the problem is with the user most the time not the strings. I also have a friend that has had a Raptor since they first come out he hunts with it every year and it still has the original string. My nephew had the string replaced and hunted the rest of this past season with no problems.

btjones1861 I've owned a barnett reverse limb headhunter crossbow for three years now. Shoot it quite a bit. In all that time and years I have never had a problem with the string. Was the string and never dry fire it. Should last you quite a while.

Yeah. So Barnett did not fix anything. The Whitetail Pro STR was the biggest POC bow that I have ever bought. I had to take that bow back to Bass Pro Shops 4 times to get the riser replaced because the string/cables kept fraying after only a dozen shots or so. I put wax on it after every 5 shots or so but it did not make a difference. I ended up selling the WTP on eBay and I ended up buying the Excalibur Bulldog 440. I haven’t had any string issues any more. With recurve technology there is no cables and all you have was a string and you can replace the strings itself when it started fraying with their stringing tool. I have not had to change the strings and since it’s so easy to change the strings I have changed the color of my strings from neon green/black to pink to blue/black and grey/black. I always carry the stringing aid with me so Incase I go to a hunt and the string breaks then I can replace it within 10mins with the correct brace height. You can’t ask for more from a bow that shoots 450FPS chronoed. It outshoots any Barnett crossbow. They are no innovators, they suck as a company and it shows in the quality of their bows.

There was some range is this video. The flagship is certainly spendy, but Barnett is always good about offering some affordable crossbows. We are hoping to get 4-6 crossbows in the $400-500 range for some long term reviews and a big comparison this year.
