Charlotte My suspicion, based with working on local / regional HS theatre awards, is the mics are shared so this was the easiest solution to get performers quickly set up and not require an audio tech during their hair and makeup process.

a tape and go situation after they are ready is a safer bet, why make the process more complicated and risk technical issues when it's hardly necessary for the competition.

nala beans you probably don’t care anymore but they do this a lot in more professional theatre settings especially for women. It’s something to do with the way we sing that it picks it up better I think. Most broadway productions I’ve seen do it like this

Renee’s finalist solo at the Jimmys was amazing , very different than what you can see up here

I think the witch and Renee smashed actually! The first note Renee sane I was hooked and wanting to cry, you can see it in her face. Her voice is so soulful and that one riff she does kills me, you just note she won lol after that riff
