ok I've only watched about 10 videos of Renee performing live and she absolutely has one of those voices & performance abilities where it LITERALLY looks like she is lip syncing at certain points bc her neck doesn't strain and her abdomen doesn't do that thing and all this to say holy fucking shit. this woman is the FUTURE.

@@beccasouthwick what I was referring to is sometimes when people inhale in a specific way trying to find breath support, it really just strains the abdominal muscles. so without actually acquiring any support, you also lose the ability to properly engage those muscles for support when you vocalize. I think it's a result of being told to "breathe into the belly". and sometimes when a singer does it, their belly actually protrudes a bit. I don't have any training or anything at all, though, so I might be off the mark! it's just something I think I've noticed.

Soooo...I know that this thread is a year old, but as a trained vocalist and music major, I feel the need to say this: Breathing with your diaphragm correctly for singing does actually cause your "belly" to move. Not a whole bunch, but substantially, yes! Renee is amazing, but there are definitely moments in this video where her technique is very sacrificed to belt higher and higher. Her neck strains and she's using her throat to "yell belt" rather than using a chest-mix. This all isn't to say that she isn't a vocal GODDESS, but only to address these comments about technique.

Since it’s a live performance there probably wasn’t an engineer there for a live recording setup, and it would cost time and money to get the group back together in a studio setting especially if they don’t work together regularly. Plus once you record a cover of someone else’s song you have to pay a licensing (copyright) fee and jump through hoops to get it published to streaming services like Spotify and the copyright holder can block you from doing so. Source: I’ve done it before- it’s not as easy as posting a tweet or KZbin comment 😊 these are professionals who are constantly working and if they aren’t getting paid they shouldn’t be doing any extra work tbh
