This car is a hidden gem. I had no idea this car even existed until I had my vacation in Europe. Uber driver had this Opel Insignia and I loved it. When I returned back stateside I went for a test drive and WOW, it is a first GM car I really want to buy. It is much nicer inside compared to a typical Chevy, it has a hatch, sufficient leg room for all passengers. I wish wagon was available without gas-guzzling AWD option. It is designed and built in Germany. Excellent value, nothing beats it in price/room/features considering discounts. Kia Stinger is horrible inside, super cramped and uncomfortable.

Buick really needs to do something dramatic to shake off its "old man" image, but GM is probably holding back Buick in driving dynamics and luxury to prevent Buick from cannibalizing Cadillac sales. Although...mainstream cars are becoming so nice that it eliminates the need for this "premium" class. The only reason Buick is still around is because of the Chinese market.

The problem for Buick is that GM already has a luxury brand in Cadillac. So Buick has to be more luxurious than Chevy but less the Cadillac. That’s a really hard spot to be with customers demanding more luxury standard on most of their cars for less money.

I think I might be the only youngest one(16) to actually really like Buick, it’s always caught my attention, especially the Verano, I feel it’s more for me, because of how compact it is but with enough horsepower to not let someone go around you on a 1 lane road, cause someone was trying to pass my grandpa on the right side when it’s not even a lane and he just opened that car up, had enough power to actually throw you back in your seat
@v13r3r6 жыл бұрын
I've owned a Verano for 3 years. Bought it when I was 25. I think it's a great first car as it handles well with the power it has. It's sharp looking and the interior is great so you will enjoy driving it and feel confident at the wheel. Since it's based of the older Cruze, it's very easy to maintain and the 2.4L can get you 9.1L/100km (Canadian here) if you drive it right (11L/100km advertised for city).

Buick is more a cut above other cars than truely luxurious. For what it costs ( $25980) It's not bad at all. Note the hatchback rear. That adds a huge utilitarian advantage. So, it's good for getting to & from work and the kids around town in comfort Monday through Friday, and for hauling a few sheets of plywood or drywall home for remodeling the basement on the weekends!

I am so happy that the handsome Buick Regal Sportsback AWD in Essence trim with both Driver Confidence pkgs. matches up to my Volvo S60 in nearly every way. Same car (current model S60) will be $4,000+ more than the Buick with the same safety and performance features. I test drove one last week and it was quieter and smoother than my Volvo, yet felt as luxurious and secure! In July, if the pricing is competitive, you'll see me in the Regal! And it has more BMW visual appeal than you think. Great review, Sofyan! But remember, we baby boomers are looking for an 'American Car' like this. Kia's Stinger market penetration will be negligible. But Volvo, Acura, BMW, MB, Lexus and Audi, better market accordingly because they will lose customers. The hatchback feature is just the icing on the cake!

Since I'm too young to be a 'fuddy duddy,' I'm just gonna say... screw paddle shifters! If I can't have a true clutch and stick, I'd rather just have an all-out automatic... paddle shifting is depressing.
@diegomontoya88896 жыл бұрын
The Stinger does have one shortfall however, and that is space. It only has a tad more than 40 cubic feet of storage with the back seats folded down and the Buick has 61 cubic feet. So the more practical lift back is clearly the Buick, but the Stinger likely bests the Buick in every other measurable factor, except perhaps weight. The Stinger is pretty heavy in AWD layout as well, at just over 4,000 lbs. That TourX is certainly intriguing as many have mentioned. We don't get many wagons here, and every true car guy/gal is a wagon fan at heart.

Transmission is a GM design - but also a Ford design. The jointly shared development on their new 9 speed transmissions to share costs. Eight speed is from Toyota. The two blank buttons on the right when describing the shifter are for features not available in the USA (automatic parallel parking for example, only available in Australia and Germany). Nice review, gives you a good idea what you get with the standard loaded model, although no view of the enlarged trunk due to the hatch. Thanks for going to Texas to review this for us.

Considering Buick is basically a 55+ and a rental brand. Fun fact: they literally have to use air fresheners at Lincoln dealerships to get rid of the “old people smell”
@normt54636 жыл бұрын
Louis Win the average new car purchasing age is 52-53 years old. Lexus average 54 and Buick 56. Those old people are the ones with the money!

Buick Regal and Lacrosse are extremely popular in China, almost best selling in their class. The latest model even launched in China first. Buick is an American brand. How come they do way more better in a foreign country? I haven't seen a Buick on the road for 2 weeks I guess?

So the germans call it Opel , the brit brits call it Vauxhal , but overthere the INSIGNIA is from the brand Buick ..... Standard comes with a 1.5 liter turbo petrol engine . kzbin.info/www/bejne/bmGXm2ejd7KJqLc The insignia is against cars like mondeo and passat .In the USA it will be against cars like accord or camry ?
@pivn72046 жыл бұрын
6, Mondeo, Passat, Accord and Camry are the same segment. In Europe this car is not premium, but GM put a Buick badge on it and call it premium without any changes.
@chrishill19886 жыл бұрын
Excellent review, per usual. For the Regal, I feel like it needs to be compared to more expensive competitors, including the C300 and 3 Series BMW. Even if it doesn't match up pound-for-pound, you should express that those competitors are 50% more expensive (c. $30k v. $45k). The Regal has more power with comparable luxury, but just doesn't have the badge. It's a great car for what you pay.

This is what conservative really means. No real ideas, just playing it safe with how other companies have executed their surfaces.
@johnsmythe18416 жыл бұрын
*Baba Booey* Yes, playing it safe and taking cues from others firms success, particularly in styling, is the right thing to do when you're dealing with hundreds of thousands of jobs, billions of dollars and affecting others in your industry. What's wrong with that?
@ZeroBoostBuick6 жыл бұрын
Playing it safe increases reliability. Unfortunately the 2016-2017 Buick LaCrosse brought Buick Reliability ratings down quite a bit. But before that in 2016 Buick was THIRD best brand for reliability in North America. To me this is Extremely important when choosing a vehicle.

You can find brand new Regal Sportback 2.0T on autotrader in the $19's . The Accord is too expensive and doesnt have the longer Buick warranty. Plus the Regal Sportback has twice the trunk space compared to the Accord.

Really Buick can not compete with Lexus, Audi, etc. Lincoln even beats it out. Buick is just a step below Cadillac, simple as that
@stevefranklin80526 жыл бұрын
Zachary Grigg uhh, Buick has always been a step below Cadillac genius, that's it's position in the GM line up, been like that since the 1930s. so here was the line up cheapest to most expensive, Chevy, Pontiac, Oldsmobile, Buick, and most expensive CADILLAC.
@johnsmythe18416 жыл бұрын
*Zachary* If you listened to the first 30 seconds of the video, you'd see that Buick sold TWICE as many units as Lincoln, so, yeah, they're competing quite well. Audi sold about 218,000 units in the US, so Buick is competing quite well. Worldwid, Buick sold about 1.2 million cars and Audi sold about 1.8 million, so still quite competitive. Since Buick cars sold in the US are on the same platform as Opel (owned by GM until July of this year) , one must include Opel sales of 1 million, which means Opel/GM/Buick outsold Audi. Lexus sold 317,000 units world wide in 2016, so Buick is kicking the shit out of them. YOU may not be a fan of Buick, and that's okay. But when you say things that are obviously incorrect and easily negated by a 5 minute web search, then you must be given the facts.

This is such a beautiful Car! I wish we got the TourX in Canada, really disappointed that we don't. I find it odd when vehicles put in incandescent lights for brakes and signals, those should have the LED bulbs. I notice the rear fog lamp housing is there, did Buick keep the rear fogs for this car? Overall this is a really nice car, and great review as always!
@lexisnep5256 жыл бұрын
Great review! The car, to me, seems very cheaply put together. Everything sounds plasticky, it's like Chevy+. Not on the level of Acura, Infiniti, Lincoln, or other "attainable" luxury brands.
