2018 Chevy Equinox TD diesel 3 month owner review

Just me talking about my experience for the first 3 months

2018 Equinox Diesel we have one (bought in 2020 with 17k on it) i love this car!! we have put over 21k on it (it has 40k now) it easily gets 40mpg coming back from Salt Lake - it got 43mpg going to Denver multiple times this last year - got around 42 usually it gets better at 77 mph or less it loves 66mph to 68mph doing that speed - this mpg just keeps going up service issues-- none just oil and filter and this last trip the fuel filter gauge tripped saying to change it is very comfortable and nice on trips you can place ALOT of stuff in it and it is just wonderful for road trips the little diesel purrs -- not very loud at all and plenty of power even with 137 hp going uphill in the mountains here (Colorado) it gets up easily without alot of downshifting or whinning RPMs it will hold back as well going downhill - esp when using the shifter to manually set it down to 5 or 4 this car is amazing and i love it wish they made more vehicles with these little diesels, they get great mileage and are wonderful vehs

I am glad to hear you got a good one! I, too, wish I could buy new diesel cars like this but sadly they are all gone.

Man I love the diesel Chevy. Man if loafs at 80. 2000rpm. There is so precious few of these out there You still a Versa owner?

Sold my last Versa to Carvana when they were paying way too much for them. I am trying to get my sales guy to order me a '23 but he keeps saying they don't have any allocations.

I am looking at a 2015 Cruze diesel coming Tom morning at auction I know you had one. This one has 116k and is in super running and driving condition. A local repair shop owns it. They run cars through that they get cheap and repair. Usually a catastrophic failure of some kind. This one runs and drives perfect and has no warning lights. However, it does have a readiness code which usually means the motor has been swapped out. What are your thoughts on these cars? Thanks man.

I bought mine brand new and put 206K miles on it. It was not perfect, but it was overall a great car. Check Cruzetalk for common problems.

Does DEF fluid freez during severe winter?

I have never had any issues, even below zero. The DEF tanks have heaters.

Current situation now. Mine froze. That’s why I’m on KZbin looking for answers now. 😢

@@youtoobe169 -25 with the wind chill. I had to have the shop to keep my car warm in their shop for a few days until it warmed up. Now it’s limiting my speed because the def tank was frozen now unthawed

Thanks. Im looking for a decent used suv and saw this diesel on autotrader. Just researching it now. Seems to be a decent vehicle. I hear an EV Equinox is in the works but I am sure it will be quite higher in price. Does this car use DEF? Thanks.

Yes it does use DEF

I have a used Equinox TD 2018 Premier since Mar 2022, so far I am pretty happy about it. It does use DEF however its not that expensive when you compare with that of the mileage. The best part is the ride, it is smooth as far as I can say. There are some other Diesel SUVs as well, namely Jaguar, Mazda and GMC (terrain).

@@wilsonsamuel2469 the issue with the DEF isn’t the price of the DEF, it’s the fact that injectors fail and DEF goes bad or gets contaminated and you’re left with a $600 bill

Yes I had a 2014 that I bought new and put over 200K miles on it. I have a bunch of videos about it.

@@youtoobe169 I'm watching some of your older videos now. I have a 2014 cruze diesel. I loved it for 7 years but it's suddenly starting to fall apart. I had the engine fuse block blow a month ago and it seems like it's gone again, long with a bunch of other codes. Only 51k miles on it.

No, I never do. I also did not add anything in my Cruze diesel and drove that over 200K miles.
