I don’t know how you can fairly compare a front wheel drive auto and and all wheel drive auto? Why didn’t they test two AWD or two FWD?
@ballinhobo86035 жыл бұрын
They should be able to switch the terrain to FWD. I believe that's a feature. Idk why they wouldn't do that. It's a feature to help you save fuel!

They are identical vehicles. This is a comparison between fwd and rwd.
@JA-rn5qv4 жыл бұрын
Because the point was to compare equivalent models which these are basically the same car but the Chevy model isn't offered in AWD so they had to compare them as they came, but even so, it actually made the test more interesting to see what the real life difference would be between the same model but one FWD and the other AWD. I'm glad they did it that way versus comparing two exact vehicles (just with a different logo on them) which would have been pointless.

I haven't seen the rest of the video. For other people watching the video. Never use the topping method. When its full, it's full. Topping overflows the system. The extra fuel goes into the evaporative system. The evap system is meant to recover fuel vapors, don't top off. Unless you want to replace your charcoal canister.

I just bought a 2020 Terrain with the 2.0 litre engine and (AWD). Your not going to get used to the transmission controls in the short time you guys had the cars. It took me a while too but it’s fine now. I traded a 2016 Terrain with the V6 engine which was pretty quick (AWD) and I could get just about 31 m.p.g. imperial in that car on the highway. The new car is pretty impressive performance wise but the jury is still out on mileage. The electronic or electric controls do take some getting used to for sure.

I am not surprised at all, both are good vehicles and I am glad that they redesigned them. I was a fan of the 3.6 V6 in the previous gen one as it was pretty peppy in its own right, but that 2.4L I4 was a DOG spelled with all capital letters. I was hesitant at first, but after driving the Equinox, Malibu and even the Camaro that 2.0L Turbo 4 has some juice for a 4 and is much more fuel efficient than the V6, plus it still tows 3500lbs and you can get a tow package. I am also glad that the 2.0L T4 is offered in the LT trim level so you can get that performance in a more cost efficient trim level. Yes almost all vehicles are expensive, but still. Nice little comparison of FWD vs AWD mpg even if the selectable AWD wasn't engaged that extra 300lbs was there. I agree with Nathan on the GMC that gear selector is weird, I think that GMC wanted their new Terrain to be more than an Equinox with a different exterior design. Good job guys.

can we see the tires?? its all about rolling resistance and if the AWD car has even slightly more grippy tires it makes all the difference in MPG...just putting 289 pound Aunt Edna in the passenger seat wont mean 3 MPG especially since these AWD systems are generally very front wheel drive biased
@JA-rn5qv4 жыл бұрын
it's not just the added weight, it's also the parasitic loss from the drive shaft that's always spinning even when the car is in fwd mode only. i've actually gone in and physically removed a driveshaft from a car that had a fried rear diff which allowed the car to operate as a fwd only car and sure enough, the MPG's picked up once the motor no longer had to spin that drive shaft regardless of whether it was in fwd or awd. Also the acceleration was better for the same reason less drag on the engine from not having to constantly spin that drive shaft even when in fwd mode only. That's just the way these "on-demand" awd systems work, regardless of the front to rear bias.

"real world" testing should be done with family in the vehicle at all addllkoï
@JA-rn5qv4 жыл бұрын
Except that consumer research has shown that even though these can fit a family, the majority of people that own these vehicles drive alone most of the time or just one other passenger. People just like roomy cars and the ability to pick up supplies from Home Depot every once in a while. People who are going to be driving with an entire family on a daily basis tend to go for the next size up from this size or more towards a minivan. So the test is actually realistic since most of the people that drive them are usually alone or just one other passenger.

All cars are getting crazy expensive but that's for many reasons such as how complex engine/transmission and emission systems have to be nowadays just to meet the ever more strict EPA requirements. About half the equipment under the hood nowadays are there just to help the vehicle meet emissions and mpg requirements. Same goes for the chassis of new cars, they are all going to more expensive alloys and composites to make the vehicles lighter so that they can meet the ever higher MPG requirements. Then there's also the ever increasing crash and safety standards which are requiring more and more safety equipment and technology. The manufacturers are building the cars to meet these constantly increasing standards and that's reflected in the constantly increasing prices. Lastly, there is a non-stop and rather vicious "car-review" industry that will absolutely roast and destroy any car that they are reviewing (even economy cars) that doesn't come with soft touch everything, power everything, 15 airbags, 12" entertainment system, that must go from 0 to 60 mph in under 7 seconds and must get over 30 mpg. Anything short of that, then reviewers will say the car is "horribly cheap, 20 years out of date, etc, etc... and put that model on a "do not buy" list which does affect sales and if a particular model doesn't sell it gets discontinued. It's easy to blame the manufacturer, but the reality is their profit margins aren't any greater than they were 20 or 30 years ago, rather it;s all of the things that i mentioned above that are shifting car prices ever higher. Proof of this is that you can go to some 3rd world countries and still find some old car models that were designed 20 or 30 years ago that are still being made and sold new in those countries and the prices are 1/2 to 1/3rd of new cars that are being sold elsewhere in the world and the reason why is because those older designs were so much cheaper to make. Hard plastics, basic interior designs, at most 2 air bags, no navigation or LCD screens, just a basic am/fm radio with plastic rotary turn knobs, no pricey exotic alloys in the chassis, no HiD or Projector lamp headlamps or led lights just plain old halogens, no lane departure warning systems, no collision avoidance systems, no keyless entry, no remote start, no bluetooth anything, less complicated emission systems, smaller displacement engines, etc, etc. Yeah... that's what has happened to prices.
