2018 Chevy Malibu Shift into Park Error

Yoooo this worked so good I just popped the cover and bent that little metal lever down and it fixed it thank you for your video

I was able to find the right sized wall anchor to slip onto the tiny plunger. I slid it on at the open end of the anchor then snipped the excess off with scissors. I also bent the contact down. I’ll see how long it lasts.

I did this repair on my 18 malibu 2 years ago and it's doing the same thing again. Looks like I know what I'm doing this weekend

I replaced the whole shifter assembly and jumper and I am still getting shift to park, is there a relay or fuse that I can check?

so what is the approximate cost of this repair if it isn't covered by warranty? assuming the work will be completed through dealership service center

for a dealership cost I'm not sure. if you watch the video you can pop off the cover and bend the lever down a bit and it will fix the issue.

So my car was hit and I’ve been rebuilding it I’ve done this and I still get the error message after replacing everything what else could be throwing the shirt to park ?

@ sadly no , all power comes on but it still says shift to park before start idk if there’s another sensor or what

If its a car and has no warranty you can try bending the tab for the micro switch shown in the video and it should work. if not the switch or the shifter will need to ne replaced.

I was having a similar issue for my 2017 chevy malibu until my wife taught me how to turn my car off. Do this... after you shift to park, don't just press the start/end button "anyhow". Take your time and turn off your car spending about 1-2 sec. I have been doing this for the past three months and that "shift to park" issue has completely stopped

Part of the micro switch failure is forcing it into park baby the thing and it should last longer and also going too fast can cause the lever to miss the arm on the switch. But eventually they will fail as they are just terrible designs to start with.

Or you can use gm fix and don’t change our the whole shifter part 15$ takes 5 min

Yeah you can replace just the micro switch but the company that covers this car doesn't allow those repairs, they require a new assembly. Also the repair does require you to splice the new part into the shifter harness.
