Dadgum this job kicked my butt!! But all because I lacked visibility when installing the new actuator. Turns out there’s a guide post that fits into one of the mounting holes. I wasn’t getting it aligned before inserting the actuator into the blend door. I finally removed the knee airbag (easy 4 bolts) when got a better view up into the dash. I could see the guidepost and was able to get everything aligned. Definitely recommend a tiny ratchet for the actuator’s two mounting screws. Small hands and a flexible back also helps!

I received my Dorman brand actuator, will replace mine as soon as I can. An Amazon round, very low profile palm ratchet can really help in such a tight space. Very good video, thanks for showing us! Edit: I replaced mine today with a Dorman model. Works perfect now. Thanks again.

I just completed this repair and it wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be. It took me a couple hours and I didn't even bloody up my hands! Here are a few tips... 1) You don't have to disconnect the negative battery cable but its always a good idea whenever you're poking around inside cars. 2) To get access to the actuator from the bottom, I removed the knee air bag but left it plugged in (4 10mm screws, pull out the console plastic piece on the floor to get access to the front left screw) and I also removed the black plastic vent (2 7mm screws). 3) I removed the actuator by sticking my hand through the dash opening while laying on the floor and looking up through the opening. 4) A 7/32 socket will work if you don't have a 5.5mm for the 2 actuator screws. I used a thumb ratchet and small extension to remove the screws. 5) The new actuator would not seat / line up well for me so I ended up plugging it in and then closing all the van doors and waiting for all the lights to go out and then opened the door again (I believe these steps sent power to the actuator and caused the gear to move into the same position as the old actuator). You can also adjust the female part the actuator gear seats in by manually moving the vent flapper by sticking your hand through the cabin air filter opening

Thank you for posting this video. On 8/26/2023, I purchased part number 604-054 from my local O’Reilly Auto Parts. Part was $22.99 and since it had to be special ordered, shipping was $8.82. After taxes, total was $33.72. The part came in today and I’m happy to say that the HVAC actuator behind the glove box of my wife’s 2018 Chrysler Pacifica is not clicking anymore!!!! Also, man those screws holding it on were a pain in the butt to get on and off. Thank you again!

Great video! All of the other material I've seen say you need to run a calibration so the system knows which way is open vs. closed. Did you do a calibration?

You won't need recalibration because the actuator only seems to go in one way. I didn't do it, and it's been working fine since.

I liked the video. I managed to replace the piece with a new Mopar part. It was definitely the part because it was clicking in my hand with the car off the first couple minutes I was trying to remove it. But it still happens with the new part any ideas?

Just replaced mine; my fat fingers had a miserable time with the screws. Finally decided it will work with just 1 screw and the locating peg. Time will tell if it lasts without the 2nd screw. But I opened the "bad" one, hoping to find the cause of failure. Motor runs fine in both directions, and the gear train runs smoothly. The only remaining item seems to be the limit switch, which I would think would be the problem. But it too seems fine. Would someone with better troubleshooting skills than I have an insight as to what is failing on these?

I tested the defective part too. Both the motor and the wheel work fine but the board inside that's bad.

Greetings from Bulgaria! Please tell me, dear man, when installing in the original grooves, is force required to connect the white drive to the air flow control system? The process was slow for me; the damper doesn’t really accept the white drive, although everything is identical in size.

Only a little pressure should be needed. The problem you might have is aligning the teeth into the correct spot with the airflow controller side.

Hey I have problem with the air conditioner in my Chrysler Pacifica in the front the air works just fine and normal but in the back part it only blows and doesn’t cool it’s a 2020 model do you know what the problem might be?

Pacifica has two separate hvac units. Your rear A/C evaporator might be leaking or defective. Located behind the right panel trim. You might want to have your dealer check it.

How is the electrical connection released? Do you squeeze it in or pry the side with the slot out? I can see the groove on the replacement piece, so know which side. I see you left the electrical connection connected and then disconnected it, so maybe there's enough slack to see it after the 2 screws are out? Thanks! Oh, and for those watching, you need to disconnect the light connection from the felt liner of the glovebox too!

@@zachburbridge7143 Doesn't affect mine. A/C works great. It's just when the door is opened and the car is off, the door is hunting for a position that it never finds.

Probably not since the car does shut the power off by timer.

@@fisher927 Mine has been doing it for at least a year and no ill affects. Mine does it for about 3 mins and then stops every time a door is opened.

@GordonJenness is hard to troubleshoot an intermittent problem, but if your HVAC works normal and you only hear the clicking noise like I did on the video, then you might have the same actuator thats broken. If your AC is stuck on hot or cold, then the actuator on the driver side is broken.

Based on the noises I'm hearing, my actuator is busted just like the one you show. What are the consequences of this? How important/urgent is it that I fix the actuator? (We're dealing with the battery being drained occasionally in the morning. It's not consistent and happens at random times. Could the broken actuator be responsible for this?) Thank you!

It's more like an annoying issue. Some people leave it alone for years without replacing it. Yes, a bad actuator can drain your battery.
