This my second Charger (First was 2012 SXT Rally Blacktop). I had to order my '18 R/T from the factory due to what I wanted - Super Track Pack for the better suspension and brakes, F8 Green color, and decided since this was my first real brand new car, I loaded it up. Ordered in April and received it 3.5 weeks later. Price was good even though I ordered it I still negotiated it down. After 1300 miles, and two months, the fuel economy is improving, the ride is great, and now I can enjoy it's full capabilities. It plants me back in my seat when I punch it and holds me as well as itself when I push it through turns. The best of all worlds: Family car, sporty looking, V8 power, and very comfortable with all the latest gadgets. And that wonderful V8 sound: If you think it sounds good on the videos, it'll sound even better in person.

There actually is an AWD Charger Hemi version still sold, you will normally have to special order it but there is one at a dealer near me for sale on the lot. It is simply dubbed the Police edition...and yes Anyone can purchase them, not just LEO's.
@TheTestDrive6 жыл бұрын
I just found it online. That's awesome! Looks like it's called the Dodge Charger Pursuit for 2018 and it offers no AWD with the V6, but with the HEMI V8 you can get AWD or RWD. It also offers a column shifter and a 12" uConnect screen. The web page looks like it's specifically for law enforcement but that's amazing if a civilian can actually order one. There will probably be a bunch of used ones for sale in a few years too which could be a very nice purchase.

Yes, you are correct, you have to order the police package to get the AWD hemi.

I test drove the RT at a few different dealerships, and the each of salesman admitted that it’s underrated from the factory, they’re actually 390hp and 410lb/ft of torque, like in the Ram Pick ups.

Thank you I've been trying to Google the info you gave and no one had the gall to put it on line. I own a 17 Charger rt. I had a 06 Gto and let me tell you. I love my beast. Thanks for the tidbit. It's fast enough for me.

Willie Gallman wonder if the GTO could take it???? What do you think???
@saif03paul5 жыл бұрын
Maybe to make the Scat Pack a more appealing choice? Not sure.
@bobbyjohnson70694 жыл бұрын
It’s not “ underrated”- 370 hp is still a potent number- if the body weight could be sheared down to say 3,600 lbs, the charger r/t ( and challenger r/t) would be a high to mid 4 sec car! With a aftermarket intake manifold , shorty headers and a tune, the charger will put out 400 hp and 420 ft/lbs of torque. I have a challenger with similar set up plus the stage 1scatpak kit( adds 18 hp/ 18 ft-lbs torque) and it gave me a 30 hp gain that’s very noticeable But if you want brute power you either need a supercharger with 7lb max boost( on stock engine ) which will get you into the mid 500 hp range or forged pistons, a tune, long tube headers and a racing cam - mid to high 400 hp range. That can get expensive unless done over a few years of the cars life. Other than that? Leave it stock and mod the brakes and add performance sway bars and lower it an inch, and add a canned tuner( like diablo sport) - the charger will see that real “ 390 hp” and will be more responsive on daily driving. Dodge FCA isn’t lying about actual hp rating ( that’s the old 70s myth about muscle cars and their ratings) Most of the sales people on the floor don’t even KNOW the actual performance abilities of the car any further than what the sales brochures say....
@bobbyjohnson70694 жыл бұрын
Scatpacks are the “ real deal” since 2014 .those are the bonafide mustang and Camaro “ challengers”😜 Test drive an r/t stock then test drive a srt or scatpack- BIG difference!! There are levels of performance - the R/T model is still a great car and is legit muscle and 5 sec performance in a big comfy road cruiser with exhaust growl makes for a fun daily and weekend driver. Also you can no longer compare Dodge to Ford or Chevy as the new mustangs and Camaro are essentially low end sports cars designed to perform against Porsche, bmw and Audi on winding tracks. What’s tiring and childish is all the import and Japanese tuner car drivers that constantly mod and compare their DINKY weird looking cars to Dodge ( you hear them on blogs calling the challengers and chargers big slow boats, as if everyone in the world is less than 5’8 in height or wants to squeeze into kias or Subaru’s or Honda’s or camrys!) and what they won’t admit is often their cars are factory standard 6 sec commuters that have to be HEAVILY mod’d just to compete with a stock charger!

Cooled seats like my personal car and then needed the heated wheel and heated seats on the second trip. Loved the transmission and the sound. However, it isn't thaaat fast. Quicker than a lot on the road, but he is exactly the type of owener I love spanking in my tuned Taurus SHO. They never know what hit them. The Scat Pack? I traded my supercharged srt8 challenger in on a 18 RT charger like this simply for a lower payment. I ended up with 200 less a month and owing less on this than my 7 yr old challenger. with the 8 spd and even just a 5.7 it feels almost as fast as what my challenger was. The ride quality is amazing, lots of room, and its just super fun to drive. I can only nit pick that I wish mine had the cooled seats as well, nav and appearance package. However the appearance package I could always add later, nav isnt super important with all the gps units out there or using my cell. Leather seats can always be installed later and for less than what dodge would charge as a option im sure.

Did he mention sport mode? He might have beat that time.... just bought this model 2 weeks ago and I love it. Will it corner like a Mustang? Uh no. Does it sound great. Absolutely. The audio doesn't do it justice. Is the interior base and cheap looking. You bet. But for the price I got I can handle that. It WILL plant you in your seat on take off. Get to know you're neighbors before you purchase. If you leave early for work in the morning you may make some enemies. This was not a great review. Is it a beast? Compared to the big hemi no. It'll turn some heads though. The suspension is EXTREMELY stiff. more than I would of thought for such a large car but I like it that way. He also fudged the amount of room in the back. Kids and hobbits will have plenty of room. Also, my friend that drive a Prius took me off his Christmas card list for contributing to global warming. He shops at walmart but I shop at Whole foods so I think it all evens out.

Why is the challenger's 345 hemi more powerful than the charger's 345 hemi? The challenger rt has 375 hp and 410 lb torque while the charger has 370 hp and 395 lb torque
@MyriadMythial6 жыл бұрын
Probably efficiency differences in the transmission/differential. Challenger has a shorter wheelbase (4-5" shorter) effectively meaning less power is lost in the drivetrain. The gear ratio of the differential could be a factor too. I'm not sure of the specs there between the two. Thing is horsepower is tested at the drive axle not the engine itself so anything between the engine and the drive wheels will be a factor.
@blackice74086 жыл бұрын
Myriad not to mention the charger is slightly heavier than the challenger. Plus, I got to test ride both 2017 rt's at a dodge dealership, and I can tell you, the challenger accelerated more smoother than the charger. The charger felt like it was really pulling weight and straining a bit, while the challenger felt very smooth and it really pulled me to the seat. And I come from an 03 corolla, and the acceleration from both felt like I was in a hellcat because of the noise, acceleration, and shifting. Man was it insane. Ice never driven or even riden in a 392 or a supercharged hemi, but I hope to or even own one comfortably in life later
@blackice74086 жыл бұрын
Myriad i have another question for ya. Why do the rt hemis have a low redline?
@MyriadMythial6 жыл бұрын
That I'm not really sure of. Considering the Chargers all have an automatic and I believe a limiter anyways (I could be wrong there) I'm not sure why it would need a lower red line for any reason unless it is because of the paddle shifting to encourage you to keep close to the tranny shift points. I'm just making a guess there though.
@blackice74086 жыл бұрын
Myriad because on the ram trucks, the red line for the 5.7 hemis are over 6000. Not to mention the red line for the 392 cu in hemi is 6400. And that one has bigger and heavier pistons. Then again, that engine is an SRT engine

A simple carwash would have been nice before the video.

Really enjoy your videos/reviews but you could have at least went in a carwash.lol!!

LOL I know I feel the same way...it started snowing right after I picked up the car and then I had a very short window of time to film so I didn't get the chance to wash it. Just have to ignore the dirty exterior and focus on the raw performance :) thanks for the feedback!
