2018 Ford Explorer Trailer Hitch Installation

About 10 minutes into the video is where she uses a hitch jack That I named, after I drew a design on a napkin, for some U-Haul Ex's that was sitting at the table. A few weeks later they started manufacturing them.That took place at U-Haul Co. of Detroit 1989. It use to take 2 people to install a hitch. It still does in many shops that don't have a hitch jack.

Great job, Lucy. I just installed mine today. It took about two hours including borrowing a couple things from the neighbor. It was actually easier than I thought it would be. Since I didn't have the proper tool for removing the exhaust hangers I was able to use a crow bar/flat bar type of tool. The soapy water did the trick. Lucy has a video for the electrical connection too.

Why does the passenger side have 3 bolts and driver only 2 bolts? What is the deal with the "carriage bolt" ???? By the way great job Lucy ...

Very good! One quick question. What if my explore has the auto-open function of back trunk door by waiving my foot underneath? Would the installation of a hitch affect the auto-open function of the trunk?

It definitely will as the receiver sits right in the middle. I just installed a receiver onto my 2017 Explorer and that function does not work anymore. Hope that helps!

It raised mine up about 3/16". It looks fine.

why you use the 19mm wrench when attaching the hitch? can i not use the original bolt which is 18mm?

My guess would be that the originals may have had a lock-tite type substance on them from the factory and the new ones have those star washers on them. Just a guess.
